not bad, but weve had better(and prefer cubed ginger)
As a baker and home cook, I have used many brands and many types of spices. The good...this ginger is fresh, contains less sugar than most, is packaged well, and the price cant be beat. The bad...slices are harder to work with than cubes, to eat plain my family state they have a soapy taste(theyve all enjoyed the cubes for years). So since I have a pound, I will continue to cook and bake with this ginger until it is gone(the soapy taste dissipates with cooking), but I would not order this product again, since half the reason I ordered it was for the health benefits of eating it as is.

my newest wonder cure
Had read where ginger had great germ fighters, so when my throat got scratchy, I nibbled on it, and voila, next day, the itchy throat disappeared. I cook with ginger in my stir fry so ginger is nothing new as far as cooking. When I was very young, my dad would buy candied ginger once a year during the holidays as a treat. My ears back up really badly and my nose stuffs up when I ride in an airplane; it's the pressurization of the plane cabin/elevation changes, I think. Anyways, the ginger has a very strong flavor, as strong as menthol cough drops, and during my last trip, I nibbled on the ginger while flying, and did not develop any blockage in my nose and ears. My nose was clear, and my ears popped as the pressure/elevation changed. It is another wonder remedy. I break down the large bag of candied ginger into snack bags, so it stays fresh.

Wow
Wow! Chick A Boom Wow!! I just love candied ginger and while this came to me flatted out, and not in chunks as shown, it has that greet ginger kick to it and the sugar coating neutralizes the heat. Ginger is good for the digestion among other things and can in quantities causes a slight rise in the heat of your sinners, it can throw off the sting of a sore throat or help cleanse the stomach, this way though is soooo very good.

Irregular ginger wafers, not cubes
I ordered this item because the illustration shows ginger pieces resembling the best crystallized ginger I've ever purchased, from the large counter jar at Fortnum & Mason in London, perfect cubes of the tenderest most delicately flavored ginger ever. These Frontier pieces are irregularly shaped flat slices, stuck together, and have a sharp taste, much sharper than Australian crystallized ginger even. I'm guessing Frontier got its stock from China. There is no country of origin listed on the label. I suppose I'll wait for Trader Joe's to get some Australian ginger in for my next purchase. Or until I cash in my IRA for a couple pounds of Fortnum & Mason candied ginger on my next trip to London.

Good but too swwet
This product is fine. It tastes fresh. It is not very soft, but not hard, either. The reason I did not give 5 stars is that it tasted too sweet for me. But then, the other ginger candies I tried were too sweet, too. So I guess I should not complain. In the past, I found a few ginger candioes that were not too sweet, but I can no longer find them. I guess most people like ginger candies to be very sweet.

If anything it's TOO good!
This is a dangerous product. I bought this crystallized ginger in order to make cookies and other baked goods with it, but within 24 hours of it arriving my family (self-included) had eaten more than half the bag! This stuff is seriously tasty. The cookies I managed to make did turn out very good too!I read the reviews complaining of tough ginger, but the stuff I got was very soft and obviously had not sat on a shelf too long. It was not cubed, as others have mentioned, and was instead slices/"chips", but I honestly could care less about the shape.Tasty, tasty ginger at a price I can stomach. Will purchase again (but I'll have to hide it!)

Great price
I use crystalized ginger for two applications. Fruit cake and my triple ginger cookies. These have quite a bit of ginger heat so they are perfect. I usually cut them into small cubes then throw them in a blender with sugar for smaller chunks for better distribution. If you don't use the sugar they will form a blob on the blade and that's not good.

Don't let the picture of delicious ginger cubes fool you
Frontier's candy product actually comes in the form of flat, stringy ginger chips that seem freeze-dried rather than crystallized. Although the ginger is hot, sweet and spicy (and I like that), each piece was difficult to chew. Often, it felt like chewing cud (sorry, too much information I know), but I was literally left with a stringy, wet wad in my mouth after eating each piece. Couldn't even swallow...more like eating ginger gum than candies.I didn't even finish off the entire bag. Ginger candy is one of my favorite candies -- up there with chocolate for me. Not being able to finish off the ginger, tells you something. I only eat this stuff when I'm desperate for something to snack on, and even afterward, ick. There isn't even a calming medicinal effect I usually experience with ginger. It's more of a laxative-like effect than tummy nirvana.I prefer Reed's crystallized ginger and The Ginger People's crystallized ginger candies to this stuff. I wish Amazon would take the picture down. A little truth in advertising please. Put the real picture of ginger chips up to stop confusing the buyer.Sorry, but I will not be buying this again.
