An office-appropriate, device-friendly travel backpack, the Armory keeps your items organized with military-like precision. The side-entry laptop sleeve and dedicated tablet pocket means zero futzing at TSA checkpoints, and the all-pockets-accounted-for organization panel keeps small objects, like that strictly confidential thumb drive, secure and accessible. But before you start taking yourself too seriously, make use of the bottle opener on the shoulder strap.

Nicely done, Timbuk2.
[Update]If you have a wider neck, the shoulder straps will definitely be digging in quite a bit. I'm gonna see if that'll further prevent me from making use of this awesome bag.----Hey, folks! Be sure to read the description of this product before you make your purchase decision, it is indeed accurate.Welp... Let's get to it.What can I say? I've got this bag in the Surplus color - it's a nice greenish kind of color. Almost as if olive green was mixed with blue, kind of a color. It's just absolutely the best color choice I've seen on a backpack and possibly a new favorite color preference now.The one thing I did not appreciate was that I couldn't swap out my sternum strap to add a whistle to it but that's okay. I'm not going to knock or harp on something that doesn't even matter. I just wanted to give you guys that heads up.So the bag is very deep, it's a longer bag - I measured it to be about 21 inches in length. I am certain that it wouldn't be a comfortable fit beneath the seat in front of you on a 737 plane... so, keep that in mind while you're making your purchase decision. It's a really thin and slim bag, it's not bulky at all - I'm sure Timbuk2 gave it a few extra inches in length to make up for how slim and narrow the bag is.The bag has three compartments with an additional two side pockets. On the right side of the pack is the zippered pocket - it's a bit limited in space but I'm sure you could jam your phone or sunglasses in it. The left side has sleek mesh pocket that doesn't have much give so I doubt I'll be able to fit a larger water bottle or my shaker bottle in it. Not a deal breaker for me but could be for others. The pack is a top loading bag so it doesn't have a clam shell opening nor does it lay flat for TSA friendliness. Imagine having a flap on top that is zippered instead of having a clasp and flipping it open.So this thing is sort of a really well laid out bucket on the inside - it has your laptop sleeve with a super soft liner and then it's like a never-ending or bottomless pit you can stow your stuff in. I've got two travel organizers pouches in it with all my EDC doo-dads and my Sony headphones in it. So the pouches about the size of the old school plastic lunch boxes we used to carry. (80s, fam). It fits my bill perfectly with a little room to spare. Perfect for a rain jacket. Then on the front are the other two compartments, the very front is like a long vertical zip aka a Napoleon pocket. You'll easily fit your boarding pass or passport in there, a small tablet or notebook and pen. Then there's the next one, the U shape pocket with all the organization pockets. It offers two pen holders, there's a pocket next to it for maybe a..I dunno, maybe a charger cord and then there's another pocket on the flap itself. This entire compartment runs the entire length of the bag so it's another bottomless pit.Overall - this bag is stellar. I'd change it to offer a larger water bottle holder and add a whistle to the sternum strap but that is it.Good job, Timbuk2! 🤓

Slightly smaller than expected but solid overall
There were three things I was looking for in a backpack:1) When full, doesn't stick out so far that I could be mistaken for a pack mule.2) Long enough to not appear child-sized. Should cover more than the top half of my back.3) Doesn't look like total butt. This Armory Pack seemed like my best option -- fairly shallow, long, and actually looks pretty good. It arrives completely cinched up so your first impression might be that it's smaller than you were anticipating. Loosen the straps and start filling it up though and you'll probably feel better about it. It seems to sit relatively high even with the straps fully extended though and I do wish it was a little longer so that it covered more of my back.Construction seems solid and the amount and location of the pockets is plenty adequate for most people. Fits my 15" laptop just fine and I like that it has a separate iPad slot. The overall spacing in the main compartment is a little weird but I had no trouble fitting all my electronics and a change of clothes in it for a long international flight. Slim profile also means you won't have any trouble fitting it in even the smallest of overhead bins.Overall it's a B+. In the space of slim, long, & relatively stylish backpacks though you'll be hard-pressed to do better.

Great bag - but with some caveats
So Timbuk2 did a great job with this bag - the material feels premium (light, but doesn't feel cheap) and the bag has a nice structure to it. I use it for weekend travels and for work in an office setting. The laptop space fits a Macbook Pro 15 inch (retina, mid-2015) snuggly and without issue. I really like that the laptop space is not touching the bottom of the pack, which prevents the laptop from hitting the ground every time you put the bag down. First caveat here: if I had a case on my laptop, I don't think it would fit very well – the laptop space was not made for thick laptops. The internal compartment doesn't have much organization, but that's to be expected for this type of bags. I like the overall amount of space that I have to put items in. I use small pouches (e.g., tech pouch) to help manage the items I have in the main compartment so I don't go crazy looking for items... Second caveat here: if I have a water bottle or thermos in the bottle holder pocket and an umbrella in the other side pocket, the internal space of the main compartment is drastically narrowed!!! Items in the side pocket will cut into the overall space you'll have in the main compartment proportional to how wide the items are in the side pockets. Regarding the side pockets - they are deep enough and functional. The bottle space fits a Stanley Classic One Hand Vacuum Mug just fine. I loaded this bag and it was still very comfortable to wear with good weight distribution without having to use the chest strap. I would recommend this bag if you could are ok with the aforementioned caveats.

Well constructed, roomy but not bulky, backpack
This is a great commuter backpack. It is very comfortable: the straps are well placed and sit nicely on my shoulders. The back is curved a bit and padded with ventilated foam, so one doesn't arrive at work looking like they spent the morning dragging themselves through the nearest swamp. The pack is fairly deep so you can store a good amount of stuff without having it bulge outwards, which is great if you like to be considerate on mass transit. Speaking of which, the main compartment's "door" is constructed in such a way that makes it difficult for an inconsiderate fellow commuter to open it up and rummage through your stuff. My biggest gripe is the aforementioned curvature of the back padding. It prevents the pack from being able to be placed upright without some sort of support. Otherwise it just tips over, which is obviously annoying.

Solid Build with Extras
After I returned my TNF Recon, I purchased this backpack. It has some shortcomings but overall I definitely recommend it.+ Enough room for books, tablet and laptop with extra space for gym clothes or a raincoat at the top.+Drink bottle space not so deep but holds my 1L bottle nicely.+Side pocket for quick access for stuff life tissues or company id etc. (It also fits a coffee cup but it ends up eating into the inside space.)+Laptop sleeve doesn't go all the way so when you put the bag on the floor the laptop doesn't touch the ground- I wish it had drink bottle pockets on each side.- Organisational pockets are alright but I decided to buy a tech pouch to keep my chargers and cables together.

Small size, big volume
This bag is great. It is my daily commuter and it holds my lunch, magazines, computer and extra winter clothes without issue and in a small size. The only concern I have is how the straps connect to the bag. Nothing to complain about, yet, but if the bag is going to fail it’s there. Love this bag though, no qualms.

Great bag. Super high quality construction
Great bag. Super high quality construction. Not huge, but great for commuting. Only downside is that it is definitely not waterproof so it's a good idea to spring for a rain cover to keep your stuff dry.
