No, the ingredients are red (adzuki) beans, sugar, and water.

Is this an actual smooth paste that is ready to spread on cake? Like the smooth filling in red bean buns?

While it's smooth, it's not for directly filling red bean buns. The red bean paste in Chinese steamed buns contains lard. You need to cook this paste with oil or butter before using it as filling. Use 10 gram of oil for every 100 grma of red bean paste. Cook over medium heat in non stick pan or wok. Stir constantly with rubber spatula.

Its just mashed anko beans and sugar so unless those things have gluten, I think you're safe
