Parkinsons Disease and Other Movement Disorders (Oxford Specialist Handbooks in Neurology) with DVD 1st Edition

I'm a Neurologist currently training in the field of movement disorders. I think this is an excellent book for anybody dealing with this group of patients. The book is very well organized and explanations are concise, clear and didactic. Its main strength is how it helps you with the differential diagnosis by using a symptom guided approach. It provides many very useful tables which allow you to keep in mind common and uncommon conditions when facing an unusual patient. It also includes practical information regarding diagnostic tests and treatment (different options, dosages, common side effects). I was amazed at the vast amount of information contained in such a small book. The DVD with patient videos, although a little bit short, is a great extra. The test is also very coherent, probably reflecting that it is the work of very few authors. In summary I would say it covers everything you need to know to work in a Movement Disorders clinic and a little bit more... And you can carry it in your pocket!

The book provides a concise and instructive introduction to the broad neurological field of movement disorders. The approach which the authors take is clinical, guiding the reader from phenomenology to aetiology. The handbook benefits from the authors' tremendous experience in the field and reflects the clinical practice at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London.

Great book, must have for those specializing in the movement disorders field

Ce livre sur la maladie de Parkinson est très utile lorsque l'on débute en neurologie des mouvements anormaux. Chaque sujet est traité brièvement mais l'essentiel y est. Les informations pratiques sur le plan thérapeutique s'y trouvent également. Seul bémol, son prix (assez cher pour un bouquin si mince) et le manque d'infos sur les pathologies de type "PK +" , fréquemment rencontrées en consultation spécialisée des mouvements anormaux.
