really good kit
really good quality kit for building your own 3d printer. if you are building from scratch though I recommend you look for a kit that includes the end stops and the heatbed as well.the RAMPS board I received had one of the connectors soldered on badly, I had to redo that. Also quite a few of the pins were bent, but you should expect this when ordering any kind of electronic boards or components.

Built your printer - connected your Sainsmarts Ramps board - motors don't move properly? If it's the same as mine, your kit came without jumpers. To enable the default 1/16 microstepping, you need to have jumpers on all three pairs of pins under each stepper driver. If they're not in the kit, you'll need to purchase them separately - available cheaply on ebay and electronics accessory suppliers. The kit is basically fine, packed in a solid plastic box with anti-static bags around the board items. There is no documentation, though, and you need some experience or some guidance from web pages to connect it all up.(The Sainsmart online documentation is of very little help). The lack of jumpers caught me out, as this is the first time I've used a Ramps board.

Sainsmart is stepping up
I needed to replace a Printrboard with a failed X driver and decided to find a controller with modules instead of total integration. This RAMPS 1.4 kit (as of 8/14) is complete with jumpers and heat sinks for each driver. I tested each of the five drivers and all work. As far as a beginners kit, this is my first 3d printer controller project (I had no experience with said Printrboard) and inside of one week I have managed to load Repetier firmware with Arduino IDE and control it via pronterface. I suppose that there is no singular firmware that would work for every printer so Sainsmart leaves the card blank. The Repetier firmware page will generate you a usable file to upload to the mega2560 and there are plenty of tutorials on using Arduino IDE. There is no documentation from Sainsmart other than a blog and a tutorial on their product page. So from a beginners standpoint you will have to learn what an Arduino based RAMPS/shield is and how to configure it. I can find no reason not to rate the card 5 stars.

parfait mais ...
Livré rapidement dans un emballage soigne. Montée sur ma prisa i3 la carte fonctionne parfaitement. Cependant, au moment des réglages, il manque les cavaliers sous les drivers A4988 pour faire du microstepping...

Crapped out 8 hours in
RAMPS short circuited 8 hours in. Using additional MOSFETS for bed and hot end, verified the wiring. The board fried.
