Good All-Around Tipper
The one I received is 8 7/8 long. It is medium weight with heavyish ends. (All Mid-East tippers vary in density though, so you cannot be 100% sure what shows up.) The wood on mine is dense. The shaft is a little more thin than a Sharpie pen. If you do not have a preferences, I think this is a good tipper for beginners. It has a little something for everyone, and is highly useable. It will also help you decide exactly what qualities in a tipper you are looking for.

I love this tipper!
I was looking for a new tipper because the one that came with my Bodhran was too short and light for me. I looked at every one i could find on amazon, and every review that was posted. This one had many reviews and i can see why. When i ordered it, it came earlier than what was expected and when i opened it i was surprised. Its a very beautiful tipper and has very good weight and length to it. This definitely helps if your trying to do triplets and rolls, (I'm a newb to the Bodhran but triplets and rolls are what i was having a problem with. My stick was too short and made my hand get in the way and being a girl i have smaller hands)so if your looking for a stick that might help with that this is a wonderful choice, especially with the price.

Rosewood Tipper Nice weight!
I am giving this 4 stars right now. It has a very substantial weight and I am sure it won't go flying across the room because you can't feel it between your fingers. I am still waiting on a Michael Vignoles 18" Bodhran ordered direct from Ireland. I am a Novice and I bought several styles ribbed and grooved and prefer the Weight of this tipper in my hand rather than the Ash ones received so far. Love Rosewood too. Look for Rosewood or Red Oak. Those are denser woods if you prefer a weighty feel.

It's okay for what it is....
Not thrilled with the packaging, since it came in a padded envelope; I thought there should have been either a dowel rod taped to it, or cardboard tube around it to protect it more from bending or breaking in transit, but mine made it through my mailbox pretty well (envelope was bent just above the end of the tipper -- thankfully no breakage at the end.The tipper itself is pretty good, it's an effect. Not quite a brush sound on a bodhran, but...I found one of the bamboo skewers (yeah, it's made out of bamboo skewers!) had NOT been cut or sanded to match the others, and the skewers are NOT glued together under the wrap tape...they can be moved around, which then moves the cut and sanded sides out of alignment, but it can be twisted and re-aligned.Here's the bottom line... if you're lazy, go ahead and get it...just find the best deal so you don't pay more than the price of the tipper in shipping!!!If you're not, or are very crafty you can DIY as bamboo skewers are available at Dollar Tree or dollar deals, etc... for ...well, if you have to ask....a dollar plus local tax. (there's about 25 in a package). Add glue, sandpaper and either grip tape or string if you're really crafty, and about an hour of work...I'm not -- I did make my own, but I went ahead and bought one as well...and I use it....If you want an inexpensive, non boutique brush tipper, that you don't have to make yourself, this is it.

Medium Weight, 8.5 Inch Tipper
What I received is a medium-sized and medium weight tipper. It is solid but not dense. The narrow part of the shaft is just a little thinner than a Sharpie marker. In length, mine is 8.5 inches. It is balanced. Because of the size and slope type, the ends do not register has heavy in any way. But again, they are not light either. If you don't yet have a preference, I'd say it is a general all-purpose tipper that can be used on any drum.

A Balanced Billy Club
This one is dense and relatively heavy with the large, barbell like ends. I can see uses for it, but it requires a little more effort to get it moving, and I do not think it could be used if you needed to play more light. the Double Slope Tipper which I also reviewed is a better all-around tipper. I can interchangeably play lightly or heavy using simple or complex patterns. The Double Slope Tipper is responsive. This one is balanced, too, but it is more like a billy club.

Great tipper, especially for a beginner like me
I have been learning bodhran for the past few months, and I've struggled with control of the tippers I purchased with my first drum. They always felt a bit awkward to me, but this tipper, with the off-center grip, solved the problem for me. It gives me more control, and suddenly my learning curve has increased sharply. I wrapped a small bit of grip tape around the area where it's held, and it's now the tipper I use all the time. I have great control on it, and it's much easier to play.If you're an experienced player, you probably already have a nice selection of tippers that you favor, but I'd suggest this might be worth checking out. If you're fairly new to the bodhran, and you find yourself having balance and striking problems, I'd strong suggest this tipper, as it really helped cure those issues for me.

Love this
I'm new to the bodhran, but ordered this tipper based off of things I've read online about good tippers and the reviews listed here. This tipper arrived a few days before my bodhran did, and I tested it out with a box.Really love the weight of the tipper. I did not have any prior experience with tippers, but when my drum arrived and I tested out the tipper that came with it, I was SO glad I purchased this one. It is definitely heavier than the one my drum came with - this is a good thing! The weight offers good control and minimizes unintentional bouncing off the skin of the drum. Totally worth the money.
