Great slim Phone Asus rules.
Bought and really liked this lightweight slim design, was on the AT&T network until it was suddenly dropped from support.Previously when I talked to a rep we thought the phone would be O.K. with the switch to 5g, not.So a great 3g-4g phone if your network will cover it, I really miss it, takes great photos and easy to use, feels good in hand. This phone was an obvious choice on price, you don't need to spend a thousand dollars + to have a really great phone.....Zenfone 5Q.

Upgrading from Galaxy S4
I am upgrading to this phone from a Galaxy S4 which is still a good phone but the battery life is horrible and I would have to charge it twice in a day if I used it, not to mention the standby wouldn't even last 24 hours. So I read some reviews and comparisons on this phone and others in it's price range. And let me tell you this phone is night and day better than my Galaxy S4. It's battery life is awesome where it last 3-4 days on standby/low use. Under heavy use (Checking emails, videos, and Messenger) this thing easily lasted over 36 hours i just plugged it in when it hit 10%. I've had it for a month and I am sold. Also, I use this as a utility device so the only real gaming I do on it is Scrabble or Chess. However, I did download PUBG just for kicks and it ran smooth it with no issues (Uninstalled after because I have no interest in gaming on this).Pros: - Battery life (Especially the standby power) - I like the Zen UI - Night and day faster than my Galaxy S4 - 2TB Storage - Dual Sim - 4GB Ram - Price: 269.99 when I bought mine - Fast and responsiveCons: - A 6" Sceen is almost too much for my taste. ALMOST. - I guess Android 8.0 would be nice but I have zero complaints about 7.1.1 atm - I'm not into the 20MP being on the front as I would rather have it on the back. I don't take selfies lol But the back camera is still great for my needs. Other Thoughts: - If you are looking to save forty to sixty bucks I would look at the Nokia 6.1 as it is pretty much the same phone minus 1GB of RAM and is a 5.5" screen.

Very nice looking device. Where is the promised Android P update?
I replaced my aging iphone 5s with this Asus Zenfone 5Q. So far, I really love this phone. It is a very attractive phone with a great screen, fast processor with plenty of storage and memory. The cameras seem to be quite good as well. It even came with a decent TPU case! I will be giving them a good test and will add some pics later. Calls are clear and signal strength seems consistent. This is a very good phone considering the price. It comes with Android Nougat 7.1 with a promise to upgrade to Oreo 8 within the next couple of months. I can live with that, as long as the update happens as promised. I will update this review as needed based on further experiences.I have now had this phone for about three months. Overall, I am very happy with it, however, Asus needs to make some clear statement as to when either the Android 8 or Android 9 update will happen. On the US website, it still states that the Oreo update would happen in Q3. Other people claim that they are skipping Oreo and will update to Android P in Q1 of 2019. When I bought the phone, the website said it came with Oreo, which is not true. Not a great way to gain customer loyalty.Just a quick update on this phone. The phone still works great, however is now mid-Feb and the promised Android P update still has not surfaced. This makes me skeptical about ever buying another ASUS product. Not only has the update not happened, but ASUS has been rather sketchy about providing information about this.

Great phone at a good price
I was a Windows Mobile/Phone/Mobile guy until Microsoft decided to stop supporting their mobile OS. I reluctantly switched over to an ASUS Zenphone last year. The phone worked fine, using mostly Microsoft services, and a Windows Phone skin which was more familiar to me... and still the best UI ever created. But with only 2GB RAM and 16GB memory (my SIM blocked the slot for a MicroSD), the device was really sluggish. I'm done with the $600+ smartphones. I've bought enough of those to fill a shoebox, so I went looking for an economical replacement.I liked the simplified ASUS skin on top of the Android OS vs. something from Samsung, so I was hooked on the brand. My powerful desktops are both made by ASUS. This phone offered me 4GB RAM, 64GB memory, and room for a 64GB MicroSD. Setup was simple and it has been a great experience this past month. It's as quick, or quicker than any of my $600 Windows phones. One of the knocks for this phone was that it was still running Android 7.1, with (delayed) promises from ASUS of an upgrade to Android by third quarter 2019. Well, last night ASUS had an update for me - and 15 minutes later I was running Android 9. Problem solved. For under $300, this phone is a good deal.

Great basic phone, Asus needs to rethink their Auto-start setting
So i have very little to complain about with this phone. cool cameras, more than enough RAM, great CPU, and Asus doesnt load to much junk on it.however, when i first started to use this phone, apps would not auto start or run in the background, this was irritating. I tried factory reset, battery options, app options, NOTHING WORKED. Asus support (which is usually really good) hung up on me and pissed me off, after an hour of screwing with the setting, i figure out there is a hidden "Auto-start setting" the phone uses to save RAM. so nothing would work unless it was in memory before i found this setting, after i found it by complete accident, everything begain to work.Asus needs to make this "Auto-start setting" more visible and allow the user to disable or enable it during the startup with the phone. this setting is awesome, i love it! BUT, Asus needs to show and explain it before enabling the setting so people like me don't get pissed off and start looking at new phones.

You get what you pay for
I wanted to jump off the iPhone bandwagon as I was becoming increasingly unhappy with Apple's offerings, and the Zenfone caught my eye when I was shopping around for alternatives. At that time, the only phone available was the Zenfone 3, so I waited a little while longer, and continued keeping tabs on the brand, eventually seeing that Asus released their Zenfone 5Q to the western world. The price tag is very attractive, as I am finding that the iPhones are becoming increasingly more expensive each year for no particular reason - brand name recognition I suppose. I've been happy with my Asus laptops over the years, so I figured I'd give one of their phones a shot. I've had the phone for a few weeks now, and the old adage, 'you get what you pay for', seems to be more and more appropriate the longer I play with it. It's not to say I am unhappy or regret my purchase, but I am definitely not blown away by it.PROs+ Affordable+ Simple, attractive, and customizable UI+ Gorgeous looking phone - I purchased the white+ Nice large screen, not too dark, not too bright+ Battery, so far, has lasted me 2 days every full charge, though I expect this to decrease over time+ Camera captures crisp high contrast images, but ... (see below)Cons- Camera needs an excessive amount of light for quality pictures, otherwise expect lots of grain- Even with my giant man-hands, it's sometimes awkward to hold, and tends to slip out of my grasp- Hard to find case for it (I had to order online)- Scratches VERY easily. I handled it like it was dynamite, and it already has small scratches on the back :(- Two instances of connectivity errors with the network. I had to restart the phone for it to connect again.- More of an android thing, but I have had apps crash or slow to a crawl for no reason whatsoeverOverall, I would consider this an 'okay' phone. For the price, it gets the job done. What I've found most annoying is apps crashing, and the two instances where the phone refused to connect to my mobile network. After restarting it both times, I was flooded with SMS messages that got stuck in cache.I think the phone itself is beautiful, and the interface is simple and attractive. The price feels right. The camera acts more like a "real" camera, which can be both good and bad. The pictures certainly have more grain than other phone cameras I've seen, but when there's enough light, the pictures are crisp and high contrast. I am saddened by the fact that the back has small scratches already, even with how carefully I've handled it, and having to wait weeks for a case is annoying. But, overall, it's a 3 out of 5 for me. I am happy I bought it, and would definitely buy again.

Amazing OS performance, worst camera performance.
+ battery life. Compared to oder phones, even much more expensive ones, this phone has a very good battery life.++++ The design, size, the way it feels in your hand is unbeatable. Again, tried many oder phones, all the popular brands, this one is by far the beat when it comes to design and material.++++ OS performance. It looks like Asus hasn't killed it with tons of unnecessary apps. This allows the OS to provide amazing performance, virtually no lag whatsoever. Absolutely amazed by the overall experience with the Asus zenui as well. I upgraded ZenUI to 5 beta and it's awesome.-- still on Android 7.1.1, not a huge minus as the performance is very good, but it's time to upgrade. Asus promised an upgrade soon, we'll see qhen that happens.------ by far the biggest negative, which renders this phone not worthy of a recommendation, is the photo and video quality. I won't say much about this, except it's the worst in any phone I have ever tried or owned, including phones from 5-7 years ago. Photo and video quality are really really bad unfortunately.UPDATE: the device has been updated to Android 9.0, performance is just as good. ZenUI is still amazingly fast. Camera performance much better. I would definitely recommend this device now.

Love my new Zenfone!
I purchased my ASUS Zenfone 5Q (white) over the Christmas holidays to replace my failing LG G5 and I could not be more impressed. Even though it does come with an older version of Android, from what I understand the latest version will be rolled out to the devices sometime this month. Aside from that, I love the intuitive ZenUI and the overall aesthetic and functionality of the phone. Call quality is clear, battery life is amazing, and the phone runs smoothly even with multiple applications running. The speaker is fairly decent, but headphones are preferred and luckily a pair is supplied in the box (rare these days). Also supplied is a protective case. The one bugaboo I have with it is the camera. I've noticed the quality isn't quite the same as my LG G5, but I have to remind myself this isn't a flagship device. Also, although not a deal-breaker for me, it has a mini USB adapter as opposed to the more modern USB-C adapter. However, I am still able to use all my extra long charging cables with simple mini USB to USB-C adapters purchased right here on Amazon. All in all, I wanted to purchase a phone that was unlocked so I wasn't bound to one carrier, and I wanted something that was fairly powerful and within my price range. This phone fit the bill. As someone who has historically purchased flagship devices, I am more than happy to say this phone meets all my needs.PS - It does work with Public Mobile.

Great phone. Nice looking as well
I like this phone. It is very much a flag ship style at a lower price. It may not have the fastest processor, but it does all that I expect fast enough, with plenty of battery capacity. My biggest concern is that Asus has not released Oreo for it yet. The Nougat on the Zenfone 5Q is nice and quick, with plenty of features, and I would rather Nougat running fast, then a slow buggy Oreo. The concern is if Asus drops support for this phone early.

The operating system is terrible
The team maintaining the operating sytem should be fired. The proprietary updates are full of bugs:1) The maximum ringtone/alarm/media volumes become about 10% of what they should be; You can hardly hear anything unless you use a headphone.2) The stock applications do not respect your private settings. E.g. Google Maps keeps tracking your data even if you turn off your location and your Web & App Activity.3) The phone uses about 30% more battery after a system update.I thought the phone was decent in the first 3 months after I bought it. Then I learned that I was so wrong.
