First of all, I should say that this book is thinner than we expected, and it isn't really girlish or boyish, but it is still beautiful and will provide many hours of useful work for my daughter. We followed the advice given, to choose the book by its cover, but in this case my 7 year old could have had something a little more challenging. She misses the date page, and wishes it were as thick as the do it yourself journal the older kids have. However, we could have avoided that by looking inside of it more closely, and by checking the page count. The colouring pages are animals, fruit, vegetables, candies, shoes, and a few detailed underground house drawings. Very sweet. We love the look and feel of the cover! The whole book is inspiring the kids to pick up their school work at any time of the day.A handy tip is to buy a roll of white out correction tape, to cover over the occasional word or instruction in you want to do something different with the page. My kids also like rolling this on, so it adds to the fun.

Just enough structure and you add your own books
I bought this for my five year old. He seems to enjoy it. It is like the journals his older siblings have. He picks out four books and I read to him and he does a page or two in his journal. He is still in the prereading stage so this works out well. We have used it for about a week now. There are different pictures for your child to color and brain games to complete. I think this will work out well for us.Below are some photos of the book. I also have a review on my blog about this book. http://jamiefuentes722.blogspot.comMy little guy is excited to have his own journal to work in like his older siblings.

Disappointing
When I came across this series of books and the great reviews, I picked out 4 titles for my various-aged homeschooled kids. We were really excited for the books to arrive. When they did, I was very disappointed. The covers are nice and the paper quality of the pages is good, but the rest is basically what I can get from a coloring book in the dollar store. The coloring pages are mediocre. The "educational" pages are very, very repetitive, with a header like "writing time" that serves as a blank area to fill in. These types of pages are repeated many times each throughout the book. For the price, I was expecting much, much more. At 1/4 of the price, I might have thought this a good value for the money. It was a great idea in theory, but disappointing in practice, especially given the high price tag. I will probably return this for a refund.

A solid meh.
Got this for my 4 year old to have something constructive to do while I did lessons with my 7 year old. I'm not happy with the print quality and he's not happy with the type of pictures to color. They're extremely detailed and not attractive to him at all. He is ok with the nature studies and movie write ups, but that's about it. We've used about half of this book, and it always elicits a groan when it comes out. We skip a lot of the pages. We've had the book about a year, give or take.

Not much to it
Cute, but not much more than a collection of drawing sheets and simple puzzles. I bought this hoping each kid could work in it independently while I teach the other kid. It’s too simple to meet that need. Seems extremely overpriced for what it actually turned out to be. My first grader finished half the book in two days. Bummer.

Loved by seven year old girl
Bought this for my seven year old daughter. She loves the coloring pages. I love that she's excited to read and write. This one was a good choice for her but I'll probably pick a different journal in the series that will be slightly more challenging for her next time. The movie time and letter practice pages are her favorite. She loves creating a her own font.

Using this with my 5 year old son who started out saying he was not going to "do school". Funny thing happened when I got him a workbook like his big sister's ..... he started to enjoy doing schoolwork! He has enough freedom in this book's format to work on things that interest him and it makes learning seem more natural and fun. That little bit of extra independence is a game changer. I recommend this book to anyone who asks!

My 3 and 4 year olds are excited to work in these. I'm hoping I can get them to work through systematically instead of jumping around.

Great little summer retention journal.
My almost 6 year old daughter loves this journal. It has really gotten her summer retention off to a good start. The only draw back is that some of the pages are blurry. She doesn't seem to mind though.
