Good theory, awful execution
We bought this for a trip so we can introduce ground-up adult food to our 7-month old.To put it in a simple phrase: Just use the blender. The packaging is all cute and nice and all organized, but the functionality pretty much ends there. The blades on the grinder are less sharp than safety scissors and aren't even angled in such a way to grind food. We stuck a piece of apple in it and all it did was made the top of the exposed apple perfectly flat from "grinding." We read the directions (all 4 of us adults who are all college-educated, fully literate and have a really good grasp on reading directions) and none of us could successfully operate this thing. No matter how hard you push the food through, it just will. not. grind like it's supposed to do.Again, avoid, unless you want to take a Dremel and hand-sharpen the unbelievably dull blades.Maybe I got a bad blade...not sure. Maybe Kidco could respond in the comments section about how we got a bum product or if it was a design flaw or if we're doing it wrong (read: followed their directions).Trying to get our money back.Awful product.Sorry Kidco, you missed it on this one.

Better then the rest, but still could be better!
This is the best food mill out there. I've tried them all. However, in the 40 years since I used this type of food mill on my children (I now purchased this for my grandchild), they have made no improvements in the ease of use. The old one I used to have flanged out at the bottom so you had something to balance on while pushing it down. This shaft is straight, so it is somewhat difficult to push down on thicker things you want to grind, like chicken. PLUS, there is still a quarter in gap at the bottom, so you can't grind everything you put in it. Why can't they make a grinder that grinds all the way to the bottom?

Good idea but hard to use
I took a "How to make baby food" class at the hospital I was going to have my baby at. Our instructor raved about this thing and even let us try it out. In class it was super easy to grind any kind of food into mush that babies starting on solids could eat. However, once I bought my own and put it together, I found it really hard to use. It grinds maybe 1/4 of the food and the rest is stuck at the bottom of the grinder, just mashed and unable to use.I wouldn't buy it again, nor suggest it to other parents. I have it in the kitchen still and might try it in the future if we have more kids. But I think I'll stick to the Baby Bullet and cutting things up with a fork and knife.

This food mill had the best reviews out of all of the ones I was ...
This food mill had the best reviews out of all of the ones I was considering. It's just okay. It takes a lot of work to grind up things that aren't complete mush. Although my biggest complaint is that it's difficult to wrangle while grinding - almost as if it's too small to get a firm grip on the base and on the tiny handle (and I'm not a big person). Also if you have especially juicy things the juice leaks out of the bottom. The food 'patty' that others have described is annoying, but I would just end up eating it while preparing my daughter's food. I really couldn't see using this in a restaurant - it just seems so impractical given how hard you have work, how much food you have to put in it to get enough out to feed baby and the leak factor. Knowing that I would have spent the extra money on a food mill that you can attach to the table.

Your experience could always be different.
I thought this product was pretty handy, and it works great. However, for me it just wasn't practical. It was much easier to put in some pre-made baby food into my baby bag than it was to take this out and use it while like out at dinner or something. And of course I didn't use it much at home as I would make my own baby food in the blender in mass quantities so I used that instead. Even though this is a great idea and concept, I didn't get as much use out of it as I thought I would. That being said, it is a great little product that works exactly the way it says it should, it is handy and small and fits easily in your diaper bag.

Could be better...
I purchased this food mill hoping it would grind food better than my old one (which is also made by KidCo.) It does grind the food, BUT it leaves a large mass of unground food at the bottom when you're done. I think this is there to ensure no bones, cartilage, etc. get through. I never intend on putting anything with bones in the food mill anyways! I also do not like the shape of the top of the grinder. I know it's elongated so it travels more easily, but its shape makes it difficult to get all of the ground food out. The rubber gasket does not seal as well as the old model's, either. I have to take it off every time I wash it as food gets stuck underneath. The handle could be a bit longer too, but it has to be short so the cover fits on it.Aside from the negative aspects of the food mill, I do like that it has a metal grate with blade, rather than plastic. My older food mill has a plastic grate. If I could combine my old food mill with a metal grate/blade, I would be much happier! I'm not sure why KidCo went to a plastic grate, but I'll continue using the deluxe food mill only because of the metal grate/blade and because it grinds food pretty well.

Healthy Food For Baby
It's hard enough these days to find food that is not laced with hormones, filled with pesticides and loaded with toxic sugar, high fructose corn syrup and/or GMO wheat products. This is especially true for baby foods. With the Kidco Food Mill, you are in complete control of your baby's nutrition. And it saves money in the process. This is a "must have" for healthy babies and the best gift a new mom and dad could possibly hope for. It's not the most expensive gift you can give…it's just the best!

Feed your baby FRESH food wit this food mill!
I love these baby food mills. Once the baby is ready for some texture, you simply put vegs., fruit and some meats and fish which you have cooked for your meals, with little or no seasoning. remove the baby's portion and season what the rest of the family's food. Push down as you turn the handle. A fewsecond is all it takes. You'll feed your baby the freshest food this way. Take it out to dinner too/ Ni electricity required. It comes apart for easy washing as well.

Pros I love the bag it came in
I had been looking for a food mill for a while and unfortunately this one takes a LOT of arm power and doesn't grind meat very well at all. I have asked others to try it as I thought it was just me but had the same result. It requires a lot of pushing but also you have to have a certain amount of food in it or it doesn't quite work, at least for me it didn't. Pros I love the bag it came in, it packs away nicely, and for fruit it does separate the juice from the fruits nicely.

size matters
The food mill works fine but there is about a half inch space at the top where food gets stuck and you can't actually get it to go through the mill. So, when you are milling a lot of food it does a great job but there will always be some inside that you can't use. This is especially frustrating if you are trying to mill smaller meals for little babies. I hate wasting food and I find that I have to waste more than seems necessary when using this product. Incidentally, their older models did not have this design flaw but I threw mine away because I was worried about the unsafe chemicals in older plastic products.
