Does what I need it to
I'm currently using an iPhone 4S and I keep it in an Otterbox Defender all the time because I tend to drop it on occasion and, as a result, the few components I have that require a dock connection do not get used often because of the hassle of removing the iPhone. I have an iHome IP90 alarm clock/radio that I like and, up until this purchase, I have always used an older 60 GB disk drive iPod with it for listening to music so I wouldn't have to deal with removing the phone from its protective case. I had recently decided that I'd like to have a sound conditioner and with the abundance of apps available in the App Store, I figured the best thing to do would be to just get an app for it. Once I had found an app that I liked, the biggest problem that I had was that I needed a little more spacious sound (from the IP90) than I could get from the tiny iPhone speakers but, again, I didn't want the hassle of taking the phone out of the case every night.I knew I could find what I need on Amazon so I came here to research my options. I wasn't certain if I wanted a dock extender or a dock extension cable so, based on reviews, I decided to give this combo package a try. I tried both the dock extender and the dock extension cable and both work fine with my iPhone in the case and connected to the IP90. I decided against using the dock extender because I felt like my phone was too heavy to sit on it since I do not have any sort of backplate for the phone to rest against and I figure that, over time, it would likely damage the connector on my iHome if I used it for a whlie. I then tested the extender cable and it worked perfectly fine for my purposes however, I noticed a couple of issues with the cable that may be an issue for others. First, the plastic end of the cable that connected to the iHome dock actually split in half after just a few connections. After looking at it carefully, I could see that it just snaps together so I was able to fix it by doing such. A dab of super glue would probably permanently remedy the issue. The second issue, which may be more of a concern for audiophiles, is that the audio as played through the cable did not sound as clean to me as it sounds when the iPhone is docked directly into the unit.It wasn't bad, but it was noticeable that it was not as clean sounding as being directly docked. Since I'm using only it for ambient noise currently (ocean waves against the beach at bedtime), the little bit of sound distortion I'm getting is irrelevant for my needs. I'll try to take the time to also evaluate if I'm getting the same sound from the dock extender also when I can.

A Handy Extension Cable
Very handy!I used this to easily connect my Iphone to my Klipsch boombox. Sure, I could just stick the Iphone in there, except that it has a rather durable, and thick, case. Seems nobody wants to make these boomboxes or docks for Iphones with cases, which is ironic, since only a fool or a zillionaire would carry an expensive, easily dropped device without some sort of protection. It would also be handy for connecting an Ipad to a dock meant for an Iphone or Ipod.If you feel any of the above scenarios are silly, say, because you have an Ipod and don't need to connect anything else to a boombox, consider what happens if you need to charge your Iphone/Ipad/Iwhatever.You can also relocate your Ipod to an easily seen location where a boombox won't fit, such as attached to your monitor via Velcro. Now that I'm moving on to the Iphone 6 plus, I'll be trying the adapter thingy with this cable, as there's no way that monster will fit in my boombox.Highly Recommend!

Great dock extender - works for iPhone5/s with adapter
I wanted to comment on this cable as it works PERFECTLY! I love the fact that I can pick up my phone while it's playing music on my dock rather than trying to carefully type messages while the phone is directly docked (and which could cause damage to the phone and/or dock). So I have paired this cable with an Apple 30 pin to Lightning adapter (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009VZRPC6/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). This works perfectly for my iPhone 5s. Be wary of other cables and 30 pin to Lightning adapters as they do not all work. This dock extender is surely a keeper!

Product worked good the second time
The first one of these cables I received was defective. It charged my ipod and allowed me to play music through my ipod dock but it allowed interference into the music signal from the ipod. This equated to a lot of buzzing and background noise during quit parts of song or in between songs. This drove me nuts and I returned the product, they were nice enough to give me a full return and sent me another one for free for the hassle. I have had the second one for a couple of weeks and works really good with no issues. I would have given the product a 5 star review if the first one worked like the second.

Does exactly what I want.
I ordered a different cheaper version and it did not work at all. This is a true dock extension that works. My cell phone case made docks impractical. Well, this fixed that. I have two different iHome units--the iP40 and iP87. The units behave exactly as if my iPhone 4S was plugged directly into the unit. With so many pieces of cheap electronics out there, it feels good to find something that does what it claims. The other reviews are correct--the Phone/Pod side of the plug has bayonet hooks like some old style plugs that physically hook into the phone/pod. It's important to remember to push those side buttons in to remove the plug. Of course, a few minutes with a file shaving off the barbs would fix that, but I prefer to leave it stock.

Works great!
This little extender has worked flawlessly for about a year in my possession. I use it to charge an iPod or an iPhone on a docking speaker set. With this cable there is no stress on the docking connector, and it makes the speaker set a little more universal. It even works with the Apple 30-pin to Lightning adapter, which allows me to use it with an iPad 4 and an iPhone 6.
