Does this work well on softer cheeses? Such as mozzarella or a soft sharp cheddar

I have found that I can use a hand-cranked (or an electric version) cheese grater on softer cheese's like mild Cheddar if I freeze the cheese and grate straight out of the freezer. Freezing also keeps cheese, including harder cheese like parmesan, from sticking to the metal drum making clean-up ten times easier!

Is this grater a good choice for harder cheese like Parmesan ? Also is it hard to turn handle on harder cheeses?

I use mine to shread bar soap, so I think hard cheeses would be fine. The handle turns very smoothly and easily, as well; very good grater.

How well does it work with softer cheeses like monterey jack? Also, how big of a piece can you shred at one time?

I have found that when shredding and grating any cheese, but especially softer ones like mild Cheddar, it shreds/grates MUCH more easily and leaves virtually zero "smeared" cheese on the metal drum--making clean-up a breeze, if I freeze my cheese and put it in the grater straight out of the freezer.

Does the handle ever accidentally detach while grating? I have one in a similar style that does that.

I have never had the handle accidentally detach while grating. The grater has a locking ring that keeps the grating cylinder in place. GREAT piece of equipment. I give them a gifts !
