I picked up the HeadRush Flex Prime, and it’s honestly one of the most user-friendly multi-effects units I’ve used. It packs a ton of features into a compact pedal, but the touchscreen interface makes everything surprisingly simple to navigate and dial in. The effect patches are some of the best I’ve heard in a multi effects pedal. Plenty of adjustability and creativity! Right out of the box, the amp models and effects sound great—from clean tones to high-gain, plus solid bass presets. The ability to load custom IRs is a big bonus if you like fine-tuning your tone or matching specific cabinets. The onboard lessons and connectivity features are a nice touch, especially if you’re learning or want an all-in-one practice setup. What I liked: * Excellent sound quality with realistic amp and cab modeling * Touchscreen interface is intuitive and fast to use * Tons of effects and presets for guitar and bass * Built-in looper is great for practice and layering ideas * Wi-Fi & Bluetooth for updates and extra features * IR loader for custom tones and flexibility * USB connectivity for recording and editing Things to know: * There’s a slight learning curve if you’re new to multi-effects units * Not as many footswitches as larger boards, so patch setup matters for live use Overall: This is a feature-packed, great-sounding multi-effects processor that’s easy to use and versatile enough for practice, recording, or gigs. If you want a modern all-in-one pedal with a clean interface and tons of options, the Flex Prime is a solid choice and value for the money.

I love the tones I hear on recordings of my favorite guitarists. THOSE are the sounds I want to hear when I’m playing. So my new ‘rig’ is a powered FRFR cabinet being fed by a digital modeler front end. I tried the $399 Tonex unit and found it mostly excellent except that it isn’t a true modeling amp but rather a unit built around specific tone samples. Some were fantastic, others much less so. The unit also had a handful of basic effects to complement those samples. In contrast, and for only $100 more, the HeadRush Flex Prime uses meticulously crafted models of LOTS and LOTS of actual popular amps, effects, cabinets and IRs too. I finally have the full spectrum of guitar tones spanning from the 50s through today, accurately and faithfully reproduced, right down to the feel of how the tones respond to my fingers, pick, dynamics and note muting techniques. I am currently feeding it into my Spark FRFR cabinet and it sounds terrific, and ay all volume levels too. Getting satisfying, album-like tones at low volume levels is one of the benefits of using a FRFR based system. A conventional tube amp has to be cranked to ear-splitting levels to get the tones we crave, but that our wives and neighbors hate to also have to listen to. This unit supposedly has the exact same technical innards and sound models as the bigger, more expensive HeadRush units, and each tonal patch allow up to fifteen ‘blocks’ including an amp and cab, and are almost endlessly tweakable, but easily and in instantly musically ways. I’ve had it now for about a month and have already created the dozen or so patches I need to cover 90% of what I need. The learning curve is about an hour, but the combinations of tonal elements near infinite, and so I’ve barely scratched the surface. But the results are accurate, satisfying and most importantly, INSPIRING! You just want to play for hours! But it doesn’t stop there. Included is their ‘Revalver 5.0’ software, a program where you can modify amp models’ internal circuitry and build rigs that can ultimately be transferred to your physical unit. There’s also their ‘Amp Cloner’ software for capturing your own amps’ tones should you have a specific amp sound you’d like to take everywhere you go without having to lug your heavy tube amp head/combo and half/full stack. I’m just getting into these so look for a follow-up review in another few months. Is the experience the same as standing in front of a raging stack blasting at 120 db while your pant legs flutter? No. But in my mind it’s better. You get to hear the tones you’re actually chasing, like you hear on the albums, at any volume you want. And they sound right because this little box has accurate models of the amps that created them, not just the one or two tones your stack provides.

Moved over from a Pod GO to this Flex Prime. I am very happy so far. The learning curve is a little steeper on this vs. the Pod Go, gut it's more customizable. The touch screen is very responsive if not a little small but I don't have any issues with it not responding or it not registering where I touch. The expression pedal is almost comically small but it does work as intended (mainly only use it for volume control). Most importantly it sounds REALLY good (I am running it through a Headrush FRFR-112). It has almost all the flexibility of the big prime without all the switches, bigger screen, etc. Just a more trimmed down version but the same CPU and software.

I have all of the Tonex Line and 2 Valeton GP-5 pedals and 2 versions of the Sonicake modelers but none compare to this. The ease of creating and editing a rig is amazing. The sounds are great and I found a lot of pre-created free rigs online and loaded many IRs to create my own. I love the vintage Tweed and Vox IR sounds and the versatility of the rig editing on the browser based app is unsurpassed. Very high quality!

I have been looking for years to replace my cheap Zoom GX1 four, and I tried lots of different brands and models but none had a decent drum machine and looper easily accessible like my Zoom and being a solo artist with a wide range of styles that was my priority. Also the fact that it’s so small and light to fit in my Traveling guitar and battery powered is another main factor for me. This Headrush Flex Prime looked like a potential candidate and I was reluctantly overlooking the lack of battery powered option in exchange of the Alesis drum machine and a longer looper time. The Headrush is 5 times more expensive and of course the quality is (slightly) better and the options to tweak the patches are basically limited only to your imagination…and the time you are willing to spend on it. After a month of tweaking (which almost drove me insane) I had to return it because it’s way too complex and the access to the looper and the drums is a nightmare. Also, I have been a great fan of Alesis drum products since my first HR16 but the samples annd patterns included in this pedal were too weird and obnoxious. I tried to find a solution to simplify the use of the pedal and bought an M-Wave midi controller to access looper and drums via midi, but that is another little nightmare in itself because you have to download a Chinese app on your smartphone and pair it with the controller every time and also carry more stuff with you when performing. The final deal breaker was when I finally tried it on the stage and I couldn’t figure out what number or name of patch I was on, because from standing up it was way to small to read. I will miss some of the sounds I created, especially the Acoustic guitar model, but my old reliable Zoom is decent too and I really don’t care for fancy IRs…I’m old school and all I need is clean, boost, crunch, lead and acoustic. I HAVE A DREAM: A pedal just like the Zoom GX1 four (with raised buttons to start loops and patterns-like I modded mine) but STEREO, with a bit longer loop time and with the option to load MY OWN drum patterns and/or connect online to other users to exchange patches and drum patterns 😜

I have used this thing everyday since I bought it. My fascination got the best of me and after watching several videos I had to buy it. There is a lot of sponsored information which equates to positive and often misleading information. It works great for what it is. A multi-effects pedal with lots of Amps, Cabs/IRs, and effects to shape the tone you want. I did run into so latency issues using the Flex Prime. Then later an issue where my guitar was delayed, like a delay effect so it was playing twice but I didn't even have a delay on the board. One of the main selling points is the ability to clone Amps and combine Amps into one to create a "Superclone". That function sucks. The ReValver Amp Clone app is horrible and makes unfaithful low quality clones of amps. It is not even close to the excellent quality of the free Neural Amp Modeler (NAM) amp cloner. Everything else works well enough. I kinda wish I would have saved my money a bought a Fractal product instead.

Super easy to use and make your own sounds. Sounds fantastic thru front of house as well, A+

If you're anywhere from a hobbyist to a mid range professional, this thing will replace your whole rig, period. Portable, nuanced signal routing, computer editor, flexible backpanel ports, and the ability to clone gear! On top of that, it's an audio interface! The only downsides for some people are that this unit has only 3 foot switches and that the pedal doesn't have a lot of range, but those are minor sacrifices in my book.

L’appareil qu’il faut avoir pour celui qui aime l’ultra qualité. Pas assez d’éloges pour cet appareil qui me comble au quotidien sur mes 5 guitares et basse. Je n’utilise que 13 presets très finement réglés selon mes goûts (vintage, son rond et chaud légèrement crunchy qu’aucun multi n’a su m’apporter jusqu’ici) Connexion Bluetooth et Wifi géniales pour MAJ et contrôle distant. On peut aller très loin dans les sons bizarres, mais là où il excelle c’est dans les sons faiblement crunchy avec reverb et Delay avec simulation de stack Marshall. Son soliste en disto sur le même concept assez hallucinant, 0 bruit de fond et sustain infini avec une profondeur et une rondeur de son inédites. Headrush a mille lieux des Boss et autres Zoom de même format. C’est plus cher, mais mieux vaut payer une fois et en prendre plein les oreilles que de changer d’appareil tous les 3 mois sans jamais être satisfait… (on pourrait étendre ce concept sur tous les objets de Consommation…)

Had the predecessor the MX5... Loved it but this is leaps ahead. Fabulous rich sounds. Quite capable of realistic synth sounds. Wifi and Bluetooth, so you can update without a pc and play along to demos on your phone via the Bluetooth. Nice small footprint for those of you like me who want to stick it in your guitar gig bag and go. Excellent for recording. Much more than I can list here. Worth every penny.
