The German Empire, 1871–1918

This madly informative book is only for the serious reader, but it richly rewards with its broad focus on multiple aspects of the Second Reich’s history. Not a strict political narrative but doesnt neglect that—or much else. His citations will point the interested reader in the right directions. Can’t skip this one if you’re interested in the period.

I read about half of the book. It is a very detailed demographic academic study of Imperial Germany. In summary the author spends too much time describing the trees and ignoring the forest and its surrounding environment.

Excellent survey of imperial German history.
