Good for fiber, not very useful for RJ45
This tester works good for fiber, and provides just about any kind of test a DIYer would need as well as most pros. There is a lot of functionality packed into this device. The price is not bad at all, especially when you start looking at the high end testers. I got this tester with future needs in mind, as I plan to eventually upgrade my network to more fiber paths. I was hoping that in the meantime I could get use out of it with ethernet. While that is the case and it does provide some basic ethernet needs such as cable test and locator, it does not provide all the functionality I was looking for. I was hoping to be able to use this tester to make the ports blink on my switch, test PoE output, as well as testing cable length, none of which this tester will do. It is not marketed that way, but I had assumed looking at similar devices that it would at least measure cable length. In fact the manual provides directions on the non-existent cable measuring function. It appears that firmware updates are an option, though looking at the manufacturer's site, the product is not even listed, and the ones that are have no firmware available for download, which doesn't make a good impression that firmware updates for this device will actually happen.

Versatile fiber optic and Ethernet troubleshooting tool.
I had to troubleshoot fiber optic cable which goes from the ONT box in my basement to the provider's OLT hub. This tool saved me a couple of thousands by locating the fault. I had a stump recently removed from my front yard and neither the contractor nor me knew that the cable was buried only 4” below the ground. This device sends powerful laser pulses down to the cable and measures time between pulse and its reflections. Even if the cable is completely cut off, a small amount of laser light will still be reflected by the rough edge of the cutaway. Time divided by 2 and multiplied by the speed of light will give you a distance to the damaged area. But this tool gives more than time of major reflection peak, it builds a graph of reflection peaks by distance, so you could see other faults before the cut as well. Any reflection indicates a signal loss. Most common source of small reflections are splices. In addition to OTDR port, the device has Visual Fault Locator (VFL) and Optical Power Meter (OPM) ports and the related functionality screens. Device also has a full featured Ethernet tester. I also received 2 types of patch cables, a couple of contrast mirrors and adapters and cleaning supplies. It is charged via micro usb cable (also included). The item came in a nice hard case.

Works good!
This tool has helped me find many faults in many runs of fiber that I have at work. Some of these runs are pushing 20 years old and this has helped me justify replacing these runs. There's a little bit of a learning curve to understand on how to use this properly, but it's not too bad. Overall, this is good tool with a very cheap price.

Works well
I got this in mostly for doing ethernet testing. Remote side that plugs into the other end of the ethernet cable works well but it does feel a little on the cheap side. A couple of times I had to apply a little pressure to it to make sure it was snapped together, making a firm connection. The interface is fairly intuitive and easy to use. It would be nice it could give a certification level on the cabling ... it only gives a basic pass/fail indicator. It works very well for my basic needs. The majority of my work is focused around ethernet connections, but it is nice that this also has fiber testing available when needed.

Very useful tool to find faults and troubleshoot cables
This is a very versatile, helpful tool to find faults and troubleshoot cables. This has a bit of a learning curve, but the display is easy to read and fairly intuitive, so you'll grasp it quickly. It's a convenient handled device, and has an internal battery you can charge via micro usb. With lasers, this shows the state of the cable fairly accurately, even where tiny fractures may have occurred and bending, and makes it possible to narrow down issues to make them much easier to find. It comes in a solid carrying case for storage and easy portability.

Effective fiber optic tester
This is an effective tester for fiber optic cable, though not as full featured or intuitive to use as the ones manufactured by Fluke. It has a RJ45 tracer, and a "test" feature, but lacks the remote module to actually use the feature. It comes in a pretty nice case and includes a few fiber adapters for use with varying connectors, as well as a few fiber pigtails. It also comes with a tracer, basically an inductive amplifier, and the main unit can act as a tone generator to find the path of UTP cables and determine which is which while wiring up a panel or structure.

Works well
This tester has so many more functions than I needed. I really only needed the RJ45 cable tracer and that's all I've used with this so far. That function works really well, all of the other functions unfortunately I can't speak to as I have not used them
