RITUALS Samurai Magic Shave Cream

The price is the biggest negative.The cream is really good helping to provide a nice smooth shave (hard beard in my case).After some reviews claiming a less effective shave, I have decided to give it a go and just made sure to follow the simple instructions on the box. I am quite happy with the results and have already started a second unit.

I use a multi blade razor and usually wet shave with Taylors shave cream and a decent shaving brush. It's a real pleasure and worth the 7 quid or so I usually buy a tub of shaving cream for, especially because the cream lasts ages. You only need a tiny bit on the end of the brush to get a good lather all over your face.How does this compare? Very badly, on all counts:1. Price. It's ludicrously expensive for what you get - whilst you might be tempted to compare with other shave creams by volume you really need to factor in that you need dollops of this stuff to get a decent shave. I'd estimate it works out at least five times the price of Taylor's stuff.2. Lather. There is none. Used with a shave brush I had to put so much on that my face was cold from it, and so my shave experience was worse, and I felt like my face was greasy from the cream afterwards.3. Fragrance. There is very little by comparison to the real pleasure I get from the sandal wood smell of Taylor's.In honesty, is someone offered me another tub of this for free I'd refuse it, preferring to pay for my usual stuff. At the price it is I'd avoid it like the plague.

Oh dear!First, I should say that in its favour, this Rituals product’s packaging is really nice – very high quality and gift-worthy. I half-like the name: Samurai (YES!) Magic (NO!). The smell is pretty nice and it’s a decent post shave cream (kind of – more on that later).I must concur with the other reviewers who say that this is not a shave cream in the traditional mould. Now, I have no problem with that in principle; shave creams and soaps have been around a long time and are not as popular as they used to be, having been largely replaced in bathroom cabinets by canned foams and gels, or perhaps shave oil. However, I am old school and find the quality of lather and shave from a good cream or soap gives me the best results. I'm quite happy with my prefered products but keep an open mind and like to try new things every now and then.So, I tried the Rituals Samurai Magic and... where to start? I’m not a slave to lather – if the product works, I don’t mind. There are times when I am in a rush and I only use shave oil or Proraso shave foam. Both provide a reasonable enough result, even if the experience isn't as luxuriant as using a brush and lather. Rather like a foam or oil, you simply apply this shave cream directly to your face. There’s no need to use a brush as the cream doesn’t lather, which should be a bit of a time-saver.I have a thick beard, but I also have sensitive skin, so I’m quite fussy about the products I use. This cream causes the razor to drag more than lather from traditional creams/soaps. It doesn’t offer as visible a guide to where you have shaved. The cold sensation doesn’t feel nice as part of the shaving prep – I heat up my bowl, razor and brush (although not for this product) with warm water before I shave. I also prepare my face with a warm shower, and a warm water splash just before applying the cream. Then – splat! – this cold cream hits your face and it’s just incongruent to the shaving experience.The cream works better as a post-shave cream. However, I only need a bit as it’s not readily absorbed by my skin and although it smells nice, I prefer to use an unscented cream so that I can wear aftershave on top.The end result is a poorer shave experience and a poorer shave. Using nice products can lift the shaving experience - something you would expect a company that calls itself "Rituals" would understand. Not so; this product makes shaving a chore, not a ritual. It’s certainly not for me and for nearly £20 a jar, it offers nothing to make me think it’s worth the outlay.Now, if you have a very light beard, this might be fine for you. For those with thick beards, I would advise you steer clear.

This is a tricky one.On the one hand, this appears a beautifully presented product. Its a very heavy, stylish container, with an expensive looking wood effect lid (the kind you like to keep), but the cream isn't what it appears ..or the marketing blurb is seriously flawed?Man of the house uses top end shaving products. He wet shaves. After using this, he said it is definitely not a shaving cream...that is, you don't use it to lather up, and shave with (it has no lather), instead he feels it should be used as a 'pre-shave prep'.It is a very high quality cream, with a slighly oily feel. Only a small amount is needed on the face, BEFORE applying your usual shaving cream. It moisturises the skin and helps to protect sensitive skin. He said it could not be used to shave with on its own.This puzzled me. This is an expensive product, in premium packaging and it has a gorgeous smell - not unlike a softer version of the incredibly expensive 'Viktor & Rolf 'Spicebomb'. Which begs the question...what is this for?I decided to try this out on my skin. (No...I dont shave!!). Man of the house said this was too greasy to wear as a moisturiser. I tried it on my face. Yes - it felt heavy, but only for a few minutes. It then settled down and felt lovely.I tried it on my legs, then adding only a little water, shaved my legs. It worked pefectly and shaving was easy. It acted like the serum bar often added to disposable razor strips. (Don't like it? ...give it to your ladies, gents!). That said, this is far too good for legs! (expensive too!)My suggestion with this guys, is to use AFTER shaving, as a moisturiser with a little water added afterwards to smooth it in (just wet hands will do). Use sparingly, and allow a few minutes to sink in. Its cooling, and smells divine.Maybe if the manufacturer is reading - he can clarify it's actual intended use...because although this smells great, and IS clearly a top end product, neither man of the house, or I am sure of the purpose of this, and therefore a good reason for buying this product.For those that already own this product and are dissapointed, try it as a face moisturiser apres shave. Use sparingly with wet hands. Give minute or two to settle in. At least then you dont waste a lovely natural (expensive) product.

Ich hatte die Rasiercreme als Probe bekommen und mich dann dazu entschieden ein wenig auf Vorrat zu bestellen. Das Fässchen hält eine ganze Weile vor. Im Vergleich zu günstigen Produkten, welche sich auch einwandfrei zum rasieren machen ist Rituals natürlich exorbitant teuer. Allerdings hat man während und nach der Rasur ein angenehmes warmes und samtes Gefühl auf der Haut. Das habe ich so noch nie gehabt. Dafür ist mir der Luxus ab und an mal Wert.

El afeitado con esta crema es muy suave, la piel queda suave y sin irritación. No es barata pero merece la pena, además creo que el envase es menos dañino para el medio ambiente que los típicos geles o espumas de afeitar en spray.

Es uno de los descubrimientos me me ha cambiado la vida a la hora de afeitarme.La cuchilla va sola y yo que tengo la piel sensible no sé me irrita. Lo recomiendo.

Hoher Preis aber absolut angenehme Rasur.Kaufe sonst immer vor Ort, aber aufgrund der geringen Filialdichte nicht immer leicht dran zu kommen.Meine Rasur gelingt damit besser als mit Schaum / Gel anderer namhafter Hersteller.Einen Punkt Abzug für den vergleichsweise hohen Preis.

Puede que no evite algunos cortes en piel delicada, pero evita cualquier irritación y sensación de ardor que puedas tener en el afeitado, y con poca cantidad, se nota que es un buen producto, de ahí su alto precio.

Llegó rápido y creo que es buena, era para regalo, pero los productos de la marca no decepcionan... lo feo es la falta de cajita.... es muy triste que te llegue el bote tal cual, sellado eso sí!

el afeitado es muy bueno y te deja la piel suave y con un buen olor y tacto, antes el bote traía 50 ml mas por el mismo precio y lo podrían bajar un poco

Mein Freund ist mega begeistert. Erste mal benutzen war merkwürdig, da kein Schaum. Aber er wechselt nie wieder. Sensible haut, juckt nix kratzt nix. Alles genial.

Ich habe die Rasiercreme verschenkt. Und außer dass sie einen angenehmen Duft hat, kann ich leider nichts positives sagen. Mein Mann hat mir die Rückmeldung gegeben, dass das rasieren damit überhaupt nicht funktioniert, weil die Rasiercreme die komplette Klinge verklebt und sich auch kaum vom Rasierer spülen lässt. Leider ein totaler Reinfall.
