Alphabet Soup

This book is so perfect! My kids adore it! It has very beautiful illustrations, which being an artist I appreciate. There's a lot of alliteration, great if you have a budding reader learning their letters. (Bears Brown Baked Bread for ex) It's playful and flows off the tongue when I read it. Some books are just a labor to read aloud but this is always fun, and we notice new things each time.Scott Gustafson is the BEST KEPT SECRET. His books are AMAYZANG. I buy everyone I find.

Alphabet Soup is a book I bought for myself when it was first published. No, I was not a child at the time and I have no children, but the book is so charming and the illustrations are so wonderful that I could not resist it. (I also have Animal Orchestra by the same writer/artist, and it is a delight also). Two of my coworkers have young children (one child is 3 1/2 and the other is 18 months), and I had to get them copies of the book. For a child learning letters (and finding everything in each illustration starting with a particular letter, like the lion and the lighthouse or the tiger and his truck) or for a child whose parents read to him/her and point out the many things going on in each illustration, the experience of this book is sure to bring many hours of joy. And the illustrations are beautiful, not just interesting -- this artist is terrific! I had a great time sharing the book with my coworkers (and not just the ones the books were given to), and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Received used book with no invoice.This book is too obtuse for a preschooler. Some of the animal associations are those a child would not know. The rhymes are for older children, probably kindergarden. If you are teaching letter associations choose another book.

Very cute and clever way to introduce children to the alphabet. So cleverly done you'll like to re-read it to help your little one get that alphabet learned. Full of whimsy. Otter is going to make soup and each of his friends is invited to bring something to add to the pot. His friends are a delightful menagerie. No one does animal charicatures better than Scott Gustafson. Some of his best work is here..

I'm a "frustrated Children's Librarian and always looking to preserve the quality children's books of earlier decades/eras. I was not familiar with this book, stumbled across it. Great Gustafson illustrations, charming text. Happy I found it and at an acceptable price considering its rarity.

This is the most fantastic author/illustrator!! His pages are filled with beautiful drawings. You always find more and more to look at. I'm getting a collection of his books for our grand baby. You can write directly to him and he'll autograph a book personally to you too. It's wonderful!

This illustrator is one of my very favorites of all time!

My Three year old granddaughters really like this one. It was second only to the Goldilocks and the Three Bears ABC book.
