Cyberlink PowerDirector 11 Ultimate Suite (PC)

I ditched Adobe CS4 for this and have not been disappointed. An extremely interactive package for post production and in the main easy to get to grips with. The only thing I've found difficult to master is menu design package for authoring a DVD. Apart from this the system is great and has an excellent support service from Cyberlink.

I previously used PowerDirector 8 and upgraded to 11 ulitmate suite which has colour and sound editing software as separate programmes. I had a look at Sony Vegas before upgrading but did not find it as intuitive to use. PD11 works well on a reasonably hi spec PC and I find it straightforward for simple editing. It's pretty stable. I found the immediate and incessant suggestion that I upgrade to PD12 rather annoying.

Although very expensive it did what I wanted. Video editing for a 40th Wedding Anniversary. Does take a little getting to learn if you have not used one of these programs before. Fast delivery. Well packaged.

still amazed at what it can do.still learning and playing slightly slower than expectedbut finished article looks well.

I am currently using this product on a 30 day trial and would recommend this trial for anyone considering its purchase.I have used Power Director 7 for a number of years and have made several first class movies - in other people's opinions as well as my own. I found just two problems with version 7. The first being that the effect for zooming in for close ups when using stills produces a zoom in and out again at speed. The second problem is that it is getting increasingly difficult to download additional effects on the Cyberlink website compatible with version 7.Being already familiar with Power Director, I downloaded the large file (approx 1 gigabyte) to try the product. This download worked well as a small program/link is placed on the desktop so that the download can be resumed if interrupted. Yes, version 11 Ultimate has resolved the two problems but the zoom when using photos is still tricky to manipulate.However, whilst in version 7 I could simply right click on a still or a transition in the timeline and use the dialogue box to increase or decrease the duration it is no longer that simple. I also found a timeline problem in that when I wanted to move or delete a section and followed the dialogue box to move the rest of the items on the tracks, sometimes I was left with gaps. This is commented upon in some of the external reviews. I haven't tried the Color Director which is included in the suite, but have used the Audio Director which I would rate as good but not as good as Audacity which can be downloaded and used for free.When opening the program there is a choice of the 'full feature editor', 'easy editor' and 'slideshow creator'. As much of my current work is using photographs I tried the slideshow creator, which I thought might be more suitable for my purpose, the automatic transitions made my head spin and fragmented the photos. I am now working in version 7, then opening the file in version 11 to add extra effects and downloaded PIPs.Definitely a case for 'try' before 'buy'.
