Based on true story
This film depicts the story of Harold Shipman, who in the very recent past was finally caught as a GP for killing a patient. And his attempt to get into the will for personal benefit. After his arrest a can of worms slowly opens, where it soon becomes clear this isn't a one off case, but a series of patient murders that spans a great deal of time..His final greed in forging a will was his downfall. He himself seems to have a personal addiction to Opiate painkillers, and came close to being stuck off before, but the GMC and Police missed the opportunity to catch his killing streak.Harold is portrayed by James Bolam, who plays a very good part. Of a weak and cunning GP.

A chilling portrayal
James Bolan does an excellent job here. I remember the story well, and this really brought to life how easy it was for him to convince trusting, elderly patients to roll up their sleeve, and allow him to inject morphine in lethal doses. Once again, it's down to just one or two persistent people to bravely expose inconsistencies and dig deeper. Stroke of genius in the IT dept was what really got him. I never knew he broke down, at all. And I still don't understand his motives... power? Quite a story. Well worth watching.

Brilliant portrayal of a madman
Dr Harold Shipman was arguably the worst serial killer Britain ever had and he's brought to life in this ITV docu-drama.Having read Prescription for Murder : The True Story of Harold Shipman I was aware of the key details of the case and they were accurately covered in this drama. The attention to detail was fantastic, i.e Dr Shipman's love of pigs, the mess of his house & the look of the his surgery, but what really does it is James Bolam looking uncannily like the serial killer and bringing the charisma, the arrogance and the mystery of the man.Overall for true crime enthusiasts or anyone who'd like to learn more about the case you can't go wrong with this drama however for those looking for his motives this will raise more questions than.

Great DVD and well acted by James Bolam (Doctor Shipman) ...
Great DVD and well acted by James Bolam (Doctor Shipman) could the same man have played roles such as Roy Figgis in Only When I Laugh or Terry Collier in the Likely Lads and Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads. He is so cold with the relatives and unfeeling and callous and has no respect for anyone. James Hazeldine as Stan Egerton is brilliant in it too. It is well produced and excellent drama. Top marks to all involved.
