Excellent economy mill
This is my second Weston mill, and a backup for my first mill. I use my Weston mill for grinding hard grains like corn, for corn bread or muffins, and it is excellent. I am currently using my first Weston mill for grinding homemade charcoal, and I was not 100% sure I would be able to get it clean to mill corn or rice again, so I ordered this second one. With my first Weston mill, I encountered a couple of issues which have simple solutions. The first issue is that the wingnuts which hold the front grinding plate and cover, slip off during milling. The solution is to grind down or file the back side of the flange/tab to eliminate the angle, and the wingnut will stay in place. (see photo) The second issue is keeping the mill firmly clamped to whatever you have it clamped to. For that I simply drilled two holes in the top clamp plate, so I can screw the mill to an old table for use. The Weston is an excellent inexpensive mill, you are not paying $170 for a Nazko Sunshine Nugget, which I also have. And stone milling kits are available, if you can find them, to mill wheat, rye, etc. into flour. I hope these suggestions help those folks with issues.

Broke in one day. DON'T BUY!
I got this mill today, and with utter excitement, set to grind whatever I could in sight. I hadn't gotten any raw grain yet, so I used rice to test the grinding power. It was Horrible!! I set it as high as I could, and some of the rice it only cut in half. I tried tampering with it, but I couldn't get smaller than grits sized pieces, or larger.I tried adjusting in to get a finer grind, tightening the nut. The bolts on the side wouldn't even stay on and one came undone while I was grinding! The blade wouldn't grind finer, and it got to the point that the 'burrs' wouldn't even move!! I opened it up to see what happened, and the metal ring holding it in place wires had bent, so it didn't even secure the burr to the auger! This item looks really legit, but don't be fooled, it grinds worth crap. In my excitement to get a grinder, I forgot to read the reviews. Bad idea! Amazon should NOT allow this item to apply for their free shipping. They shouldn't even sell it!To top everything off, I looked at the burrs, and the blades had already ground down a significant amount in less that 3 hours. 3 hours! I had only ground two things! It would only grind coffee to just about the coarseness of a French Press brew, no finer. I don't even think I can salvage this. I'm hoping I can send it back.

Don't Listen to The Naysayers
I really don't understand all of the low star reviews. Surely no one purchased this with plans of it being a top of the line flour mill.I purchased this mill to grind grain for home brewing. It could easily be used to mill down flours which I may do from time to time. I don't expect to do 10 pounds in a few minutes because it is hand-cranked. It will get the job done but it is gonna take a little muscle.I read reviews of people complaining about the coating. However, there are clear instructions in the box telling you to remove it. I soaked my device as prescribed and then placed in the oven on a low temperature for a while in order to dry it thoroughly. I did the drying myself without recommendation. I do this with all cast iron kitchen equipment. As for people finding metal shavings in their grind: I believe they had the grinding discs tightened down to tightly because I had no such issue and I made a powder out of some oats I had on hand. The device went together easily and performed as expected. This is a perfect device for someone who is wanting to do small tasks. It works perfectly for grinding grain for home brew. I would recommend this model over others that I viewed simply because it has a cover over the grinding disc that keep the mill from flying everywhere.

Weston Grain Mill
Package received as stated and on time. This mill is cheap and roughly cast but it works for me as a home brewer. It is made from cast iron and previous very roughly cast. It does mill grain for home brewing which is the purpose of the purchase. Thus far I am happy with it. It is as captioned. for the price who can complain, unless you want a top of the range stainless steel job. This works and mills the grist OK. DHL charged like a wounded bull, but then it had to be shipped to Australia. Certainly can't find anything like it here for the price.

Great for coarse grinding
I purchased this item on a Thursday, and received it on the following Saturday via Amazon prime shipping. I home brew beer, and I have researched this style of grain mill quite a bit. The most common complaints I have read is that they are all poorly cast, the majority of them have problems with the grind plates not being parallel, and some people even complained about the endless tweaking and swapping out parts to get their mill in good condition. I even read some comments about not received the proper item that was ordered. However, this was not the case for more (for the most part).First, I did receive the item shown for this product. The exact box, all parts contained, brand new and individually wrapped. Needless to say, when I saw this I was excited.Second, all parts were there, and in relatively good working condition. Also, some have complained that their mills were oily. Mine was not, but I rinsed it off for the heck of it.I ended up having to remove the spinning grind plate off of the augur, placed an o-ring I had laying around, and put the plate back on. I did this because my spinning grind plate was wobbly, but this is a common issue and was fixed easily. My grind plates are not parallel, but I found that the pressure of the grains passing through will correct this. This item is poorly cast, but I find it functional with very little tweaking. Also, I should note that I did not purchase this item from a retailer via Amazon. I purchased this item from Amazon, which I figure is why I received a good (decent?) quality item. All in all, I am happy with my purchase.

Perfect for Dhal!!
Awesome mill, shipped fast, grood packaging. Works just like back home, perfect for split peas...thanks to the other Trini reviewer!! Dhalpuri was soooo good, this works so much better than food processor. Clamps easily to counter, good texture.

works well grinding cocoa nibs
We bought this to grind cocoa nibs. It does work really well and will grind the nibs to a fine paste just didn't realise how much hard work it is but this does not reflect the product.

Broken parts
Parts don't fit perfectly, though good for coarse grinding. Spice escapes from attachment container, so the container is useless for me. The adjustment screw bolt broke after third use. Product to be thrown into trash if I can't find the replacement parts. Waste of money. Not good for fine grinding. Wont recommend

Two Stars
Mill was not what I expected. Under pressure both pins bends.
