LOVE these tools!!!
I can't say enough about these turning tools. They are very easy to use but aren't terribly limiting when using them on appropriately-sized work pieces. There are some instances where you'll still need to use a other tools (like a skew chisel or fingernail gouge) but otherwise these tools get the job done. I've used them to turn many types of wood (from soft like pine, aspen to hard like oak, maple) and they work well. After market carbide tips (e.g., Oscarbide 11mm tips) are readily available in 10-packs on Amazon for a fraction of the cost of the EWT tips. They work very well and have been durable so far.I bought a fourth handle and outfitted it with an Oscarbide 2" radius tip, which I use for rough turning and some finishing. With four tools an identification scheme was warranted, so I chucked up each shank and burned more bands into the handles. Each handle comes with two double bands, so I added a set of bands to indicate decreasing tip radius. Thus, the flat tip has 2 bands (as delivered), the 2" radius tip has 3 bands, the round tip has 4 bands, and the detailer has 5. This makes for quick identification when reaching for the right tool.On a final note, be very careful when removing the screw that holds the carbide tip in place. The hex wrench is very small and the screw head can easily strip (voice of experience here) - so thoroughly clean out the head with a sharp awl or toothpick before attempting to use the hex key.

I researched what would be a better option for me
I was given these (well I chose them) as a gift. I recently bought a lathe and wanted to start turning. The fist set of tools I bought was from a national chain that has many cheap tools. With those I was able to make a big mess and lots of sawdust. I researched what would be a better option for me. I decided that carbide would be good route for me. With the Easy Wood tools it was like night and day. They came sharp and ready to use. They make quick work of anything that I chuck up on the Lathe. I was able to turn a quick candle holder out of some walnut in just a few minutes. These tools are perfect for me a beginner on the Lathe as I do not have the time, knowledge or tools to sharpen traditional chisels. I would say that I would by these again but they are so solid and well made that I doubt that I will have to ever. I would however suggest this set to anyone that wants to turn.

Excellent starter set!
I've been "turning" for several months now. I originally bought a set of the more traditional woodturning chisels and they are great. But, if I had it to do over again, I would've started with these and then "graduated" to the chisels. Even now, I will often use these when I could just as easily use other tools, just because these truly are easier to use and produce similar results. I believe these are a solid investment that should last for years!

Excellent tools
I'm still pretty new to turning, but I have managed to produce nearly a couple of dozen pens at this point. What had been at least a 45 minute long process of turning a square pen blank into a finished shape ready for sanding and polishing now takes about 15-20 minutes. Ready to use right out of the box, and they're very effective.Initially, they require a much lighter touch than standard HSS chisels (in my opinion) as they're so sharp. This means they may not be for everyone. Additionally, the short length may make them more challenging to use for some. Personally, I find them very easy to handle and noticeably more effective than my HSS chisels.

It's way better than high speed steel tools! Like Robert Sorby for instance.
These are a great set of tools plus you can rotate the blades when they get dull and when you're done rotating them the replacements are like 15 dollars. This set was 160 dollars you can't get one Robert sorby tool for that much plus they constantly need sharpening which then you need to buy a grinder which will set you back another few hundred dollars I'm just saying these tools are awesome and hopefully they come out with more!

Maybe...
Hello!I bought these when I started turning because I wanted to practice turning without the need to worry if my tools were correctly sharpened. I bought High Speed Steel tools as well, so I could also practice sharpening. It's been said that wood turners are impatient-I fit that bill.Anyway, what I learned from these was that they are difficult to use. They are extremely teeny and so they are hard to manipulate. they also seem to catch on acrylic more than the HSS tools do. What that means to me is that they are good for small projects that aren't acrylic. For a beginner-this means pens.I know others will disagree with me, but these tools are surprisingly bulky for how small their tips are. The large bar stock backing gets in the way more frequently than I would have guessed. This means that I can only work on less detailed stuff that is mostly exterior...aka...pens.I hope you are getting a good feel for my issues. They seem limited to me. That, and they are expensive. I can't say that there is anything particularly wrong with them, they just aren't everything I wanted them to be. I also can't get a good feel for if they need to be turned to a sharper edge. Because of my limited application for them, it's hard to tell. I think you can turn a pen blank (at least to the point that I use these before switching to HSS) with a spoon, so whether these are getting dull or not is hard to tell. One positive is that they did accomplish my goal. They are sharp. Not well sharpened HSS sharp, but sharp. I was able to practice on small projects with them while I tried to learn how to sharpen my tools well, and for that, they get my 4 star rating and a

Good price for three tools
Some companies are selling carbide tools for ~$80 a piece, this set may seem pricey, but is a good entry level setup. I have never turned a single piece of wood, and was able to knock out the attached photo very quickly. My only reason for not going 5 stars is the shortness of the shaft, cant turn very deep bowls before the handle it hitting the rest. I havent had to change the blade yet so cannot comment on the threads stripping, will update my star rating accordingly if I run into issues.
