This thing looks like it would be flimsy, and it's not very heavy. It's quite small. But it does a great job at driving posts. The handles are sturdy, it's super easy to use, and it's a great product.

I bought this specifically because it was the lowest priced option I could find. I had a previous one that was a different brand and slightly larger/heavier, but have misplaced it, so I couldn't justify spending too much. I used this to pound in U-posts and garden stakes in compacted soil. It definitely did the job, but as a person who is of slighter build and not extra strong, it took a lot of energy for me to get the U-posts down far enough. I just spaced it out over a few days and it all worked out. It appears to be well built and I'm sure this is likely a great choice for someone with average strength, but if you don't have a ton of arm of core strength and have many posts to pound, a heavier one might work better (my previous one was heavier and it was in fact easier for me to use ). On the upside, the fact that it's lighter meant while it didn't pound in the posts as quickly, I was able to lift it repetitively better than I was a heavier one. Tip: I used a small piece from a microfiber towel and stuck it toward the top, to dampen the sound a little as I worked. I was in a communal area and didn't want to drive everyone nuts. It didn't seem to hamper the way it functioned, so if sound is a potential issue in your location, consider inserting a piece of cloth or something soft but not terribly bulky.

This really drove my t-posts in this hard dry clay. I bought the 18 pound driver. It is very sturdy. It made post setting a lot easier. I like everything about this tool, except, I would've liked it to have a longer slide tube. 18" is great, but 24" would be fantastic. But it can still deliver a powerful blow. You can drive a post a lot quicker than other methods with it. It would also be great at setting chain link fence posts. That's what I used my old one for. It doesn't damage those pipe pipe poles like a heavy hammer would. It's a lot cheaper than buying a gas powered driver. I couldn't justify spending that kind of money for just a few posts.

This is needed if you like to put post in your yard. So helpful with pounding it down. The construction is very good.

I put all the fence post up by myself and it is so easy and smooth.

Works great for driving fence posts. We learned that if you ball up a small sock and stuff it up inside, you can pound away on the metal fence posts, but without the loud metal-on-metal noise. Don't need ear protection. 12 lbs was on the heavy side, but we 70 yr olds were able to do it ! I would choose that weight again.
