Great pocket thrower
Looking for a compact EDC flashlight with impressive long-distance throw? The Sofirn SR12 is certainly worth consideration. Despite its slim profile, the deep reflector paired with a Luminus SFT-25R LED delivers serious range. On a hazy night I was able to illuminate a target at 310 m, and I’d think on a clear night it would throw to the stated 400 m. This is very impressive performance from a light that can be as small as your thumb (18350 format). My light registered about 5600K, so a tad warmer than on the package and had a nice tint for such a power-focused emitter. Maybe I just got lucky. At just 113 mm long with a consistent diameter around 24 mm, the SR12 fits comfortably in your pocket. With an optional 18350 short battery tube (it is compatible with Convoy S2 18350 tubes), it shrinks to 79 mm. The helical grooves on the body offer excellent grip and provide a nice aesthetic. The integrated tail cap magnet is strong enough to hold the light horizontally on metal surfaces. Without the slide-on clip attached, the light does tend to roll.Included in the box are a 3000 mAh Sofirn 18650 battery (my battery tested to 3070 mAh), lanyard, clip, two spare o-rings, manual, and a new USB-C to USB-C charging cable. Charging is done via a port on the head, protected by a silicone cover which fits snugly in the opening. A small tab makes opening easy. When charging in the light, it was drawing about 1.3A at 5V. It charged the battery to 4.13V, so a tiny bit short of a full charge but certainly acceptable. The head-mounted switch sits in a recessed groove and controls a user-friendly interface. Notably, it always returns to the last used brightness level, even after using turbo mode. However, in ramping mode, fine brightness control at low levels is limited. The side switch looks to be pressed in and the driver is glued. I’d prefer the switch to be held in by a threaded bezel and the driver to be held by a threaded retaining ring to facilitate modification, but that’s just me.Low voltage protection is present and shuts off the light at about 2.6V. A light on the switch indicates charge state, so you won’t be surprised by a spent battery. The light also has thermal regulation and does quite well with heat, in part due to the efficient buck driver architecture.Lightweight (110 g with battery) and versatile, the SR12 also includes a reversible two-way clip for deep pocket carry. While it doesn’t look like a thrower at first glance, its performance says otherwise. This slim, powerful flashlight is an excellent EDC choice for those looking to get some photons out there.

One of the best EDC lights in the market
I was excited to get my hands on the new sft25 bulb on this SR12 flashlight and it did not disappoint. For such a tiny bulb, in a small form factor, it packs a huge punch.I put it up against 2 of my favorite edc; the fenix pd36r pro and acebeam e70 mini. The e70 mini is high cri and offers a different utility. The tint is going to be much nicer with a more even light and is perfect for around the house or work. The SR12 is more of a thrower with a tight spotlight. It will cut right through lights with higher lumens and it can reach further with it's higher candela. I sometimes have to carry the e70 mini on my belt or holster because it's too thick. The SR12 can fit comfortably inside my pants or shirt pocket and offers more utility when I'm outdoors. And this brings us to the Fenix pd36r pro or what I like to call my duty light. Why would anyone compare a 21700 battery platform to an 18650?Because the SR12 is just that good.My duty light is my favorite all around light. Fit and finish is great, feels great in my hands, has a respectable max of 2800 lumens and can reach 380 meters. But it sits mostly in my pack or on my shoulder strap. This is where this SR12 truly shines. It is TINY compared to my duty light, yet it can almost perform the exact same functions. I've included some pictures to see the difference. My wall is green but there is a greenish halo on the SR12 that's not noticeable with the naked eye. This probably helps the sr12 to kicking the light out there. My main thrower is green for this reason. The spot light on the SR12 is smaller but it's just as bright. I can clip it to my hat yet it can reach over 1000 feet. almost as far as the much bigger PD36r pro. Obviously the spill is not gonna be as bright with only half the lumens but it's radius is just a big and it gets the job done. This light has been with me almost everyday since I got it and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
