Clairol Colour Strong Permanent Hair Dye - 8.1 Medium Ash Blonde

I wanted a reliable, ammonia-free permanent dye that could cover my stubborn greys and leave my hair feeling healthy. The Clairol Colour Strong largely delivered on the health and feel of my hair, but the final colour result was quite a surprise. I would rate it around 3.5 to 4 stars, as the quality is great, but the outcome can be unpredictable. The Best Bits: Formula and Hair Feel This product excels in how it treats your hair. The inclusion of an AHA bonding primer and a separate bonding treatment in the kit really makes a difference. My hair felt incredibly soft, healthy, and had an amazing shine after use—much better than many other at-home dyes I've tried. The formula is also zero-ammonia and has a decent smell, not that harsh chemical odour you often get. It provides great coverage for grey hairs, with many users reporting 100% grey coverage. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, making application straightforward. Areas for Improvement The main issue I experienced, which seems common with this line, is that the final colour doesn't always match the picture on the box. I aimed for a medium brown but my hair came out much darker, almost black, with no lighter tones visible in the light. This colour inconsistency can be very disappointing. Also, if you have long or thick hair, you might need two or even three boxes to ensure full coverage, as the quantity in one box is just enough for standard length hair. Recommendation I recommend this dye if your primary concerns are hair health, grey coverage, and shine. The bonding treatment is genuinely good. However, go in with an open mind about the exact shade you will end up with, and potentially choose a colour one or two shades lighter than your target to be safe.

Amazing amazing product, I lightened my hair using the b blonde lightener. It made my hair very yellow and brassy, I popped two boxes of the bondi bleach Ash blonde on, and it's entirley fixed my hair,taken away all brassy and yellow tones and leaving it a beautiful natural blonde colour. I couldn't be more pleased with the results :)

My hairdresser always compliments me on the colour, I apply it every 6 - 8 weeks, covers greys, I'm 64, this blends well with my greying hair. Hair feels lovely and soft when treated, easy to apply and rinse off, conditioner supplied.

I love this hair dye (the shade Edinburgh), it is the best dark red hair dye I have ever used. Hardly any bleeding; and covers my hard to dye light brown roots without the need of bleach. The colour starts off as a dark cherry red and then fades to a gorgeous auburn natural looking ‘but better’ shade. I hope this product is never discontinued! Also find that my hair is in good condition after, no extreme damage or drying like some other dyes.

My favourite ever hair dye kit (and I’ve been colouring my hair for 40 years on and off!). Applying the serum first seems to then make application of the colourant easier and more even. I found the same with Clairol’s Color Studio products (where you had to buy the colourant and serum separately) but they seem to have discontinued that. The resulting colour (I usually go for the dark brown btw, this is my first purchase of a different shade) is glossy and natural, and lasts fairly well. It comes with a generously sized tube of conditioner as well, for a couple more top up conditions after the initial dying. I really hope they don’t discontinue this one!

Acording to the back photo this lightens your hair by two shades. It does not! It smells like a lightener. Tingles like a lightener but darkened my already brown hair to a black brown! What is more it was shown on the Amazon web site as being a replacement/alternative to a Clairol product that Id successfully used before to lighten my hair without bleach (that is no longer avalible) on Amazon!!! I now have to buy another product to lighten my hair from an even darker brown than where I started! Anazon stop with your alternative product tips! They are obviously AI alternative choises that do not in any way help the customer!!!

Have tried many hair colours over the years and really like this one the best. I like the treatment you put on first before the colour. I love the colours it brings out in my hair and leaves it soft and shiny.
