Works for thick kitties too! 100% recommend!
7 month update: still just as impressed and house still smells catless!! I am thoroughly impressed!!! I originally got this so my boyfriend won’t have to do too much maintenance with my cats’ boxes when I’m gone for three weeks, and I waited til prime day to look again after weeks of eyeing these and reading reviews, and I was super nervous to commit, but after almost a week I have NO REGRETS!! I have four cats, 9lbs (female), 12lbs, 16lbs, and 17lbs (males). Two are 4 years old, the other two are 6 and 7 years old. I did NOT expect my chubby boys to be able to fit in this thing because it LOOKS too small. But it’s honestly the absolute perfect size!!! Don’t judge it until your cats use it, because I was VERY close to sending it back before my big boys used it and saw it suits their size wonderfully. They go potty, it does a leveling out of the litter to cover the waste - so rolls back halfway, forward a bit, then back in place - , then in a few minutes, it rolls all the way and dumps out the clump in the bin attached underneath. You can put it in manual mode too so you can press the leveling and cleaning buttons yourself if you want to. And there is a shield it comes with that you place over the grate so you can empty all the litter at once as well. My litter still doesn’t stink whatsoever since it cleans the waste up right away. There are min and max lines so you put the correct amount of litter in and add more when needed. I use the cheapest clumping litter from Walmart - Special Kitty, and it works great with it. I’ve changed the bag once so far in just under a week (about to change it again today) and you can’t smell any of the waste whatsoever except getting a waft when it empties the newest waste into the bin, which is expected. My cats sit and watch it every time it spins in absolute wonder. Hahaha. One of them took a couple days to use it but once I removed the other boxes and he saw the other cats all use it, he used it also! He a was afraid at first because the barrel DOES shift/lean/wobble forward a little when they get in from their weight. But not much, just startled him a bit. So skittish cats can take a bit longer to warm up. But it is also super quiet!!! My house doesn’t smell like I have cats anymore. It’s amazing. :D Mine do tend to jump out and fling litter everywhere (as opposed to stepping out) but I think that’s a personal issue. Haha! Minor dislikes: 1. How the bag is held in the bottom; there are two rubbery pieces on one end but not on the opposite end so you have to spread it and make it stay in place with your hands and put the loop through a little gap by the front clip. So there’s a possibility of it slipping off the unsecured corners, but it empties into the more secured end so it hasn’t been an issue. I would just prefer the assurance that it will stay in place fully once I slide the drawer back in. They do suggest using only those bags (of course $$ lol) but I haven’t tried with any others because it comes will a full roll. 2: The grate that the clean litter goes into when it rolls back can get little clumps stuck on the other side of it so maybe making them closer together would help. But very very few have slipped through so it hasn’t caused any smell or dirtiness concerns, and I feel like this happens with scoops and other sifting boxes I’ve used waaaaay more. Kind of an unavoidable thing with litter. These feel very minor to me, though, because it’s still doing everything I hoped it would. No real issues with it yet, though, and two of my cats SERIOUSLY dig and haven’t punctured the soft litter bed…as of now. Honestly if there’s one thing I do not regret stretching my budget for (I paid around $160 I think, on prime day and I’m wildly cheap, admittedly), it’s DEFINITELY this and it’s definitely the most affordable of the ones I’ve looked at with decent reviews. Get it! Promise you won’t regret it unless you happen to get a dud. :P

Relatively easy to set up, works well, cat uses it without problems, cost effective
I got this to replace a self-cleaning box that required crystal litter, as that option stopped being very cost-effective. The crystal litter initially seemed good, but lately the litter needed to be changed almost weekly--definitely not cost effective. I read a lot of reviews and this was the box I chose. I purchased it a few weeks ago and waited to write my review till I had seen what it would do over time. I purchased a 42 pound box of clumping clay litter to go with it. Initial set up was not difficult really, but had a few challenges. I had trouble putting the first leg in place--but once I figured it out, the rest went on easily. You MUST read the directions--and keep reading them as you go. It isn't self-explanatory, but that's not bad, just a statement. Putting the bag into the box at the bottom seemed a bit of a challenge for me--I think it was just me. It is simple--but the pictures made it less clear. Open the bag completely, lay it in the bottom lengthwise according to the shape of the bottom of the tray. Pull the yellow draw string through the slot at the front and hook it around the notch below. The back draw string just stays where it is. Simply position the upper edge of the bag around the top "shelf" or edge of the tray, replace the lid, and clip the handles closed to hold it in place, then slide it under the litter box. Takes about a minute the second time you do it! I read reviews about how awful it smells when you open the box to clean it. Look, you have a cat. They smell. Supposedly you can unclip the handle and pull the yellow draw string to close the bag before you remove it, but I haven't tried that. I just open it, remove the lit, pull the drawstring closed and replace the bag and lid. It takes all of a few seconds. I did have one bag split open as I was doing it and I had to carefully place it in a different trash bag. Things happen. I had also gone more than a week without changing it and it was very full. With one cat I have to empty it every week. The week I went more than a week without emptying it, the round part turned upside and the cat couldn't get in and came to find my husband. He had to unplug and reset it. We think it happened because the bottom was full. Just a warning. It never happened again once I started doing it weekly. The outlet we are using is half-way up a wall and over about a foot from the box and the cord is plenty long enough to reach. We did put a little set of steps below the box for the cat. It seems very high to jump into. And she does track a lot of litter out, but she is also the messiest cat I have ever met in my life. Even her food is all over the kitchen! But she got into it and used it from the time we set it up without any problems. I definitely recommend it. I calculated the use of this litter to crystal litter for the other box and I will save in litter the cost of this box (I did get it on sale) in less than a year. I have added litter twice in a month and still have at least two more "adds" left in the 42 pound box. I can get a 42 pound box of litter at Costco for less than $17, and I calculated the savings based on the Amazon price which was about $25.

As good as my Litter Robot, a fraction of the price.
This litter box has turned out better than I expected, considering how inexpensive it is. I have had a brand name Litter Robot for 8 years, and I love it. But when I needed to add a second litter box, I could not stomach the $800 price tag to buy another one. So I looked for an alternative and landed on this one. It is very efficient, super quiet, and works great for my cats who all started using it without a problem. The litter pan itself is a little small, but my biggest cat doesn't have trouble using it. If you have a really large cat, it might be too cramped for them. One feature I like about this one that my Litter Robot does not have is that immediately after the cat gets out, it does a half sweep so that the waste gets covered in litter to prevent odor and to make sure the waste is completely covered and dumps well after it hardens. Then it waits before it does a full dump. In the video I share, I ran a manual dump, so the first sweep is followed immediately by the second sweep. But in actuality, it has like 5 or 10 minutes between them. Safety; If the cat gets in the box or touches the box during the dump, it stops completely and waits until it's clear and then resumes. It's surprising how much waste it will hold before you have to change the bag. It's super easy to clean out. Although I just use small trash bags with my litter robot, I bought the bags that specifically go with this litter box because it just seems easier to me with the box shape. The one drawback is that it is not connected to Wi-Fi the way my Litter Robot is, so I can't keep track of how full it is without actually opening the drawer , and I can't monitor how much it's being used. But those are small features to miss compared to how much I saved getting this unit instead of another Litter Robot. If I have to buy another one, I would buy this one again.

Worth it
This is a very good automatic litter box that doesn’t break the bank. It doesn’t have any of the fancy app controls or feedback that other, much more expensive, litter boxes have because there is no app. We prefer this, but maybe you won’t. We use arm and hammer clump and slide litter with these and it works great. Cleaning out the waste storage area is very easy, though I do have one complaint about how well (or in this case, not well) the storage area hold the waste bags. I’ve never had an issue with the waste bags falling out of place, however I do wish there was a way to really anchor down each of the four corners before snapping on the lid. Occasionally, you still need to remove the lining that holds the litter to give it a good clean, as well as clean the entirety of the box, but that isn’t terribly often and still much easier than scooping litter every day. We have three cats and three of these self cleaning litter boxes, as well as a standard box. Two of our cats almost exclusively use these boxes, our third cat won’t acknowledge their existence. He’s a somewhat larger cat, though not really all that big (about 10 lbs but long and tall), and I do think he avoids these because of their smaller size. I think most 10 lb cats and smaller will not mind the size but any larger of a cat may not fit.

TLDR: Does not help at all, Not worth the money.
Im very disappointed. I really wanted this to work but it was a total failure. To be clear, the litterbox functions fine mechanically (cat uses it, thing spins and dumps into tray beneath) but it just does not fulfill any of the intended purposes expected from it. I have 3 cats. Before trying this for 6 months I had two large litterboxes next to each other that had to be scooped out twice a day or they would be "too dirty", and the cats would poop on the floor in front of it. Tedious, smelly, gross chore. Was excited to buy a cleaner and easier replacement that I would only have to dump the bag every few days. I followed the instructions and swapped this for one of the two large boxes to let them get use to it for a couple weeks before removing the other and leaving just the self-cleaning one. 1. Immediatly issues became apparent as this thing is small and one of my cats is picky about having a lot of space to do his business. He actively didnt want to use it for the entire time it was up so was constantly having to clean up poop off the floor in front of it even when it was freshly cleaned. 2. Its small size was a big problem with 3 cats using it as the only litter box, they were filling up the bottom tray enough that it needed to be changed every day. So it barely saved any effort and had to buy a LOT of the tiny trash bags it needed when before I just scooped and through the clumps out the back door. So on top of the large upfront cost of the self-cleaning box it also adds a new expense of bags needed constantly. 3. They pretty routinely would poop right on the edge of the bowl because its too small for them to actually go inside of it, then the machine would do what its supposed to and start turning, which smeared the poop all along the outside of the grey ball part that spins and the white base it slides against. Gross, smelly, hard to clean. 4. Theres actually a LOT of holes and cracks all over this thing that hold onto dirty litter from it spinning. so it always smells dirty even after you dump the trap and put a fresh bag. 5. Got this for LESS regular chores and dealing with LESS poop. But it gets smeared in poop so much and so much dirty litter builds up in all its holes and cracks that the whole thing needed to be taken out and cleaned every week because it stank much more than the standard litter boxes before. 6. Since this thing wasnt big enough for 3 cats and I know one of them actively hated it, I put one of the regular litter boxes back in beside it to lighten its load. three days later there is not a single clump at the bottom of the self-cleaning box because apparently all 3 of them hate it and prefer the regular box they can actually use comfortably. So now Ive taken out the self-cleaning one entirely and am back where I started with 2 large normal boxes and scooping them out twice a day again. Because of how dirty it gets I would not recommend anyone get it. Its "self-dumping" not "self-cleaning" and youll have to clean it often because its dumping makes it filthy. The only people who should even attempt this thing is if you only have 1 cat and they are ok with a small litterbox.

If you're looking for an auto litter box buy this one!
TLDR: If you're reading this stop reading and buy this litter box. You won't be sorry. We have 5 cats, we love our cats but... 5 cats is a lot of cats and a lot of cat poop. I'm tired of scooping cat poop or ignoring the cat poop scooping and dealing with smelly cat litter boxes. Last year before Christmas there was a sale on one of the cylinder style automatic cat litter boxes, it was cool because it would tell you when a cat when to the bathroom their weight and would tell me when it was full. It was not cool because it was a pain to clean and the bags liked to come loose making a mess. We needed a second automatic litter box because well, we have 5 cats and one of them is a bit fluffy and had trouble using the other style (or I was worried he would). I saw this model on sale and liked that it was more open, got good reviews and was a good price. I've replaced all of my litter boxes except for one traditional one because I don't have power nearby with this model (including the more expensive cylinder one which has now broken). What I Like: -Ease of emptying litter: You pull the tray out, pull the bag out, insert new bag put tray in throw bag in trash done. -Ease of cleaning: It is much easier to disassemble to deep clean and really just about all of it can be surfaced cleaned without any disassembly. -Software (or lack of): It turns out that I don't really care when my cats poop and I don't need a notification about it. Instead of a notification that it's full it rotates closed so they can't use it anymore and I empty it. Easy, simple. -Cost: If you're buying it on sale it's probably between $160 and $200 dollars, worth it, no hesitation. I'd probably pay $250 for it but with a bit more hesitation. What I Don't Like About it: -Plastic thing to empty the litter: If you want to empty the litter there's a diverter shield thing you put in the machine to route the litter into the tray area instead of the holding area when it cycles. It doesn't hold in place well and will come loose so not all the litter goes into the tray. It's mildly annoying but really for the cost saving compared to more expensive units I don't care. I usually do it twice or pull out the shop vac and vacuum out any extra litter. -It's a bigger than a traditional litter box, make the space for it. It's worth it. Summary: Why are you still readying this, haven't you gotten the message that you should buy this? It will make your life so much easier.

Recommend!
I really like this litter box. It helps with odors as the drawer provides a seal to keep the odors in. My 11 year old is responsible for checking and emptying the drawer and it is simple and easy for her to do. There is also minimal litter tracking and this has helped immensely with messiness and is very convenient. Just make sure to thoroughly clean the pod once in awhile.

Awesome Litter Box, I bought Two!
OMG, I wish I had bought these litter boxes sooner! My daughter-in-law bought one and I saw it at her house, she reported that it works great! I thought you had to spend $600 to get an automatic litter box, but you do not. I bought two of these for my 4 cats and they have completely abandoned the old litter boxes. As soon as they potty, these litter boxes rotate and dispose of the waste into the tray and then they level the litter providing a clean litter box every time. No more do the cats have to dig around and step in litter with waste buried in it. The cats started to use the automatic litter boxes right away, even our cat that is scared of everything loves it! They have a clean potty every single time!
