Simply AMAZING!
I am just getting into cooking more home cooked meals since I work at home now and found it tedious and time consuming to slice and chop some of the things I was cooking to the point I was avoiding recipes that required a lot of slicing.A friend suggested that I get a mandolin but to skip the plastic ones and get a 'nice professional grade' model. OUCH!! When I saw some of the prices of the top end models I was going to just pass until I saw this one. It was still a little more than I wanted to pay but after using this a few times now I would have paid more!I love that there are no real blades to swap out and it is easy to clean with just a sink sprayer but after a day of using it it easily tossed right in the dishwasher and it's sparkling clean again.Changing between cuts is as easy and turning a know or sliding a switch and can be changed up very quickly and easily. The hand held part and the slider work flawlessly together and were very smooth no matter how much I jammed in there to slice. It only has 4 cut thicknesses which seemed low compared to some of the others but with a little practice and the pressure you use I can consistently get more than the 4.My first time using it it was so quick and easy I sliced enough potatoes to make two big trays of scalloped potatoes and some french fries in less than 5 minutes! It took me MUCH long to just peel the potatoes!!Solid, easy to use, quick to clean, and not having to mess with or touch the blades makes this perfect for me being a novice cook but I can see anyone using this and enjoying it.Normally I would do a PROS and CONS at the end of my review for something like this but there is no need here. Everything works great and if I come across something that I do not like or think it does not do well I will update this review.

This is the one! Very well built, safe, and super sharp!
I was looking at restaurant grade mandolins and came across this on Amazon. Since it was mostly metal I decided to give it a shot. I was very happy with the all-in-one design. There are no blades to change which limits the chances of cutting yourself. It cleans very easily and again, without having the remove the blade. It might take a little time to figure out how to hose down all the nooks and crannies but once you do it's a breeze.I also like the fact that the dials let you choose up to 5 thick/thin settings. I haven't had to go above or below the settings available. And the thinnest setting is prefect for making potato chips for frying or baking. I've only used the waffle setting once but it was very easy and worked great. Again, all there was to switch over to it was to turn the dial for the blade to the other side. My fingers were never near the blade during this.If you read this and other reviews and someone mentions the blade is dull and wouldn't cut anything, I can only tell you this was DEFINITELY not the case with mine. Right out of the box it sliced through a 3" sweet potato like it was a hot knife cutting marshmallows. I'm going to assuming this was a manufacturing issue that they have resolved. This is the best mandoline out there for the money. Don't spend a penny more or less. This is the one!

Works better for me and i can still slice my food ...
cons: it's plastic so don't ever drop it., It fell off my counter and broke apart by the side where the blade can twist / flip. The straight blade for cutting the food has tiny parts of the blade chipped off. i think the happens when the skewer metal sticks which hold the food in place hit against the blade. Therefore i don't use those skewer anymore. Instead, i place the food into the guide circle, then i place the hand glide over it and press down on the white part so that those metal skewers don't get released. Works better for me and i can still slice my food in seconds, without damaging the blade.Pros: It is every easy to clean, Just rinse under running water back and front, open the metal flap at the bottom also. if you cut strong smelling food or food that's sticky just use a dish brush with soap to clean where necessary. I love the versatility of the cuts. I would have to buy 4 different kitchen implements to get these variety of cuts. It's easy to use, i didnt need a manual, just started cutting and adjusting the nobs to see what i like. It is sturdy, it doesn't slide when i am using it fast. I can cut super thin onion rings in 15 seconds from a large onions. When i am not using the hand guard i would not speed through cutting. I can cut asparagus in perfect halves lengthwise, which makes them cook faster and taste better since they absorb all the seasonings from the fry. I would definitely recommend this for every day use...

Great addition to the kitchen!
The mandoline is exactly as shown. The hand guard is a good size and is easy to grip. I love how the different blades can be changed just by adjusting the knobs on the side so your hands never come in contact with the them. It folds up easily and can be stored away in a relatively small space. Food glides smoothly over the slicing blade. I haven't tried the other blades yet but am confident they willl function well also.

A Good Value
I am really pleased that I purchased this mandoline. The things that I like about it:Blades are built in which is a great safety issue, they are adjustable, has a secure handle, is lighter in weight but stable, has a nice wide surface, easy to clean stainless steel surface. It's easy storage as it folds up. Sometimes I will place it in the dishwasher.Regarding the Hand Guard be sure there is no food blocking it. Sometimes I don't use the Guard, but I will slow down to a crawl when it gets to a certain point. This mandoline is doing the job my food processor could not; slicing 'Large' tomatoes, onions, potatoes, cabbage for shredding, and eggplant into strips. It makes excellent slices size slices to your liking.I would recommend this product.

Worth every penny!
Updated September 1, 2022Still with the investment and still as awesome as when purchased.Original post:I never really appreciated being able to slice vegetables so much as I do with this mandolin. I got this to replace a broken pampered chef slicer. This is incredibly sharp and has stayed so for five years it is easy to use And the slices are always consistent. The food guard is large enough for good size vegetables. It is extremely easy to switch from Julianne to straight slicing as well as the thickness adjustment it is also incredibly easy to flip the blade from the straight blade to the wavy blade. It is easy to clean and sturdy. It does not have multiple plates like so many other products seem to have but it does it’s job incredibly well. I have not yet figured out A way to great cheese compared to the pampered chef the slicer but with all the other uses this has and how much more I got used than my previous one it has well been worth it I now just use a greater over a bowl for cheese. I had purchased one other one prior to this and sent it back quickly it was not nearly as sturdy or easy to use.

No instructions; difficult adjustments; defective
I really was looking forward to this machine because I slice a lot, potatoes, tomatoes, zucchini, whatever. Without instructions (none but a setup pamphlet was provided), I tried a tomato and it turned to much. Then I played around with the adjustment button and the slider (yes, I pulled out the button) and tried again with another and it sliced. I found that the button did not turn completely (it did not reach maximum thickness).I then tried to find an instruction manual on line, but no luck. Only a group of promotional videos where the demonstrator could be a magician with his quick hands). I at least learned a little bit so I finally tried a potato.I could cut thin potato slices with ease (not thick, though, because the blade did not want to cut no matter how hard I pushed). Then I tried julienne, which I gathered were a highlight of this product. I followed the video “instructions” and got slices no matter what I did. I then realized that the julienne blades did not extend high enough to cut anything. They were worthless. I note also that the slider to produce julienne was almost impossible to slide, although I did see the very top of the julienne blades extended.Based on the videos I saw some of these contraptions must work very well and the demonstrators probably had a week long training to show how great the product is. The folks who praised the product here had obviously different experiences. For me it is a piece of junk. I received it yesterday and I told Amazon i want to return it today. The lack of an instruction manual would have been enough but after I took the trouble to learn how it works and finding it didn’t work as it was supposed to has made me wish the manufacturer would pay me for my total waste of time.

This mandoline is my personal sous chef
After way, way (WAY!) too much research, I bought this mandoline 3 years ago. Mostly I got it to thinly slice onions so my eyes didn't leak out of my skull every time I had to do that. Which sounds dumb, but I tell you, when I slice onions it feels like I'm being pepper sprayed - my glasses get spattered with tears, and I have to repeatedly stop to wash my hands and face just so I can slice the darn things with my eyes open. Anyway. I sure have used this thing a lot! It's great for slicing or julienning all kinds of foods, and makes it go super fast. Great for every day, but a godsend for holiday cooking.* There are 4 thickness you can use: 1 mm, 3.5 mm, 5.5 mm, and 7.5 mm. Or ~1/32", ~1/8", ~1/4", and ~1/3".* Cut things straight across, or in wavy waffle cuts.* Raise one row of julienne blades or two, depending on how matchsticky you want your food cut,I use it to super-thinly slice apples to make apple chips, cut lots of squash to saute, slice carrots to simmer, slice and julienne a lot of veg at once to throw in stir fry (keeping them in separate containers in the fridge means dinner comes together in, like, 15 mins), slice up those previously mentioned onions before I caramelize them in large batches, and slice even more onions to keep in a container in the fridge to throw in stuff while I'm cooking. This device is my personal sous chef, and I don't have to pay it anything! I really use it at least once a week, so worth the money I paid for it.One day my partner used it and the guard slipped off the base, which chewed up a little part of the plastic, but I sanded it down and it all works just fine. Like a rebel, I don't always use that guard anyway, but I'm stupidly careful and have yet to cut myself on it (knock on wood!).The bad? It's a little hard to get small ends of veg out of the nooks and crannies of the underside when I handwash it. But even then, it's not THAT hard. I just had to think of something that I didn't like about it, and this is all I could come up with.I hope it never dies, but all things do. So when it does, I hope this thing is still being made so I can get another one.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Mandoline Masterpiece – Waffle Fry Wizardry!
Move over, potatoes – there's a new sheriff in slicer town. The PL8 Mandoline Slicer doesn’t just slice, it slays. I bought this hoping to level up my veggie game, but let’s be honest... I was really in it for the waffle fries. And wow. This thing makes waffle fries so perfect, I’m considering opening a drive-thru in my kitchen. Crispy lattice perfection, every time. It’s like the slicer knows I’m not just cooking, I’m creating art (and probably skipping gym).Switching between slice styles is super intuitive, and cleaning it is surprisingly painless – which is more than I can say for my last mandoline (RIP fingertips).Bottom line: If you're even mildly waffle fry-curious, this slicer will turn you into a full-blown fry fanatic.

Absolutely Brilliant - Wish I had found one of these years ago.
Absolutely brilliant bit of kitchen gear !! I use a lot of fresh veg and fruit as part of my diet but by far the biggest pain I find in the kitchen is slicing up aubergines which are tough going to slice thinly even with a good knife. Because I use a lot of these in my cooking I was looking for something that could handle this quickly. I came across Mandolines as a possibility and bought a cheap one to try it out. It was useless !!! As my mother always said 'when you buy cheap you end up buying twice'. I did a bit more research and found the Progressive PL8 came up as star rated on a lot of reviews and although it seemed a bit expensive the chore of constantly slicing salads and those aubergines eventually made me press the 'Buy' button. It arrived really quickly (Thanks Amazon Prime) and I immediately put it to use slicing up some aubergines - it performed absolutely brilliantly. Sliced to perfection far better than I could ever do with a knife, totally effortless and in a fraction of the time as well. I have given it a run with making carrots Julienne, slicing cucumbers and French fries and even waffle cutting apples just to test it out and its amazing. It slices and cuts so much faster than with a knife and more accurately too - uniform slicing is a boon when doing food prep because the ore uniform the ingredients the more uniform the cooking will be.Word of warning here if your apt to be clueless with sharp instruments stick to the Play Doh kitchen range because the blades on this thing are SHARP - like a razor and will cut into you just as fast as it will slice into a potato. I know because I just had to run a finger along the blade to see and it bit into me like a lightsaber so be warned. Progressive have made it as save as possible with a cutting position for storage which lowers the blade out of harms way and the sliding safety guard for you to grab for with which help keep your hands away from those razor sharp blades. The sliding safety guard is a brilliant idea on this as it keeps the food into line with the mandolin. Without it on my cheap mandolin its too easy for vegetable to veer off the ramp. If you don't use the sliding element of the safety guard and use just the vegetable holder remember to stop well short of the blades or else you will run the base of the veg holder into the blades possibly damaging both (I have seen a reviewer moaning about just this). So if your doing it by hand because you feel heroic and aren't using the vegetable holder then be very careful because the blade will give you some serious ER type damage, if you do use the veg holder step before you get to the blades and then put the veg holder onto the sliding hand guard. That way you can cut up the fruit and veg right to the very end without risking your fingers or damaging the machine.Watch a few videos to get an idea of how versatile this machine is - I think its one of the best things I have ever bought for my kitchen, its a real time saver and much less hassle to mess about with than a food processor plus unlike the food processor its quick to clean (just run it under a tap and leave to dry) and also uses up a lot less space. Its quite large for a mandolin but a lot less than any food processor.Make sure if you get one of these you read the manual and watch a few videos to give you the idea of how to get the best from it. I'd buy one of these for any friends who like cooking as a present - just wish someone had bought one for me years ago !
