The lasers on this unit never "converge".
Each infrared thermometer I've used, including cheap ones, have two lasers that converge to a single dot at some distance depending on the unit, but this unit's lasers never converge. The closest they came together was maybe 5/16" apart before separating further again. The instructions say the lasers will converge, but 5/16" isn't "converging". I was concerned that this would affect the temperature readings as the parts we measure are smaller, so I RMA'd for another one. The second unit was the same, so I called the manufacturer to let them know of the issue - they also said the lasers should converge - and sent it to them to inspect and repair. A month or so later I got the unit back and the lasers still don't converge. They get closer together now, but are still a good 1/4" apart at their closest point. It appears to be a manufacturing flaw, but I believe the temperature is reading pretty accurate. Lastly, the unit is quite large - almost unnecessarily large - and seems a little on the cheap side build-wise. It reminds me of a large, plastic toy gun. Our company has other lower-temp units of a different brand that were purchased at a local hardware store that seem of a higher build quality. There are limited choices in this high temperature range, so we'll stick with it, but definitely would go with a different brand for other/lower temperature range needs where there are other brands available.

Works well, line up the lasers is easy
There are two lasers here so you get a condensation alarm which is a neat feature since condensation is one of the leading causes of water damage to drywall, sheathing and framing. Lining up the two lasers is extremely easy unless you are very lazy. I had an old house that had animals living in the walls. I pointed this to see what spots needed to be filled in with spray foam. Will also let you know where insulation is skimpy. Happy.

You need to read the manual 1st!!
Emissivity. Understanding what emissivity is paramount to ones success in using this tool properly. The emissivity of copper is 14.5 in my opinion and this very nice instrument doesn't do adjustments that critical. IF IT DID , I'D RATE IT AS A 5.5 STAR

Great at high temperatures
I have used this for a small iron melting furnace to measure the temperature inside. The Extech works great. It has a continuous scanning mode that makes it easy to find the hot spots and has large enough range that the measurements can be done without being too close.

Extremely accurate & easy to use
Extremely accurate & easy to use. Already found a bunch of air leaks and was finally able to quantify how bad they were & what the improvement was after sealing the leak. Super well made heavy duty device. Highly recommend.

Wow, excellent product.
I am still using my heat sensing gun today, it is a very quality product, fast shipping, and at least 100 dollars less than other companies online. I am impressed. Most highly recommended.
