" but they're the sort of thing I think I'd like to know before I buy a pricey little component
There's some things I wish someone would have told me about this tuner, and that's why this is a four-star review, instead of a five-star. They're not huge things, they're not even really "issues," but they're the sort of thing I think I'd like to know before I buy a pricey little component.First and foremost: the tuner section of this little guy is entirely one chip: the TEA5767HN from NXP. This is an IC intended for portable products, namely cell phones with embedded FM tuners, and MP3/audio players. This isn't a huge ding, but let's be clear: the heart of this tuner is NOT an ultra-high-end RF section designed by Henry Kloss and anointed by angels, the FCC, and Joseph D'Appolito. It's a five buck (maybe) SMD IC.Second: no one tells you this, but it's kind of important: the display is COLOR OLED. Let me reiterate: it's a full RGB OLED display, capable of color graphics. The only time this capability is really used is when you turn the tuner on, and you get a really fancy Pro-Ject splash screen. Nifty! But, seriously. You can change the R/G/B values in a super cryptic setup menu, so that the display (which reverts to a single color once the tuner is on) can vaguely match the colors of the rest of your system, but the cerulean blue power LED still remains. The "bluest" point the display can achieve is really more of an aqua than a true blue. This aren't squabbles... just, I wish someone would have told me.Third: Reception is... good. It will not blow your cranium off. Audio quality is notable, and through my system of Wharfedale Diamond 220's, an NAD D 3020, and a Polk PSW 111, it's smooth and shiny and every bit as pleasing as an ultra-compressed, loudness-maximized, mp3-sourced, STL-smooshed FM broadcast can be. This is 2016, friends -- as a former part-time FM station manager, I can tell you... there's nothing pure or analog about anything you hear on the dial anymore, as most of you are probably well aware. Even NPR is 95% syndicated and streamed with variable levels of lossy compression to your local station -- cue the sad trombones, Garrison Keillor. This is a nifty tuner. It fills a need, and the size is perfect for a system that you want to sound killer, but be as unobtrusive as possible, but still use separates that frankly could have been combined into one component anyway. Keep that in mind -- this tiny little chassis is still only a quarter filled with components. The chip it uses was intended for cell phones. The display is OLED which is notorious for short life span and image retention. It's beefy and steel and aluminum with all the restrained design aesthetic an Austrian industrial engineer can muster. But I really do question, is it entirely worth the price of admission? For right now, I'm still a begrudging "yes."

great performance, small package
I bought this to replace an older Yamaha analog tuner I have used for decades. The sound of the Yamaha was great, but its ability to pull in signals had deteriorated over time. I chose the Pro-ject tuner because of its relatively low price for the function of FM tuning and did not know whether its performance would fit my need. When i received the tuner, i was skeptical when i saw how small it was and how small the buttons were. Upon hooking it up and reading the instructions for the remote, I was amazed at how clean the sound was and how well it pulled in stations that the Yamaha had given up on a long time ago. while the buttons are small, my big ham sized fingers adapted to it quickly and once setup it is very convenient to switch between stations. i would buy this again and will consider other Pro-ject products in the future.

True HiFi FM sound at a reasonable price – surprising performance!
I bought this to add FM radio to my music studio HiFi system. I have recently switched to listening to radio via internet and my USB DAC connection –which is very good sound but requires start up and using a computer. I wanted to add a tuner so that I could have radio on for background and casual listening without firing up the computer system. Wow was I surprised with the sound. The frequency range is VERY good for an FM tuner with good power to the bass and clear undistorted highs. The mid range is especially good with natural sounding voices and piano is life like. I compared this to my NAD HiFi tuner (from my other High End system) and the Tuner Box had higher gain, better dynamics and stronger bass. The NAD seemed more relaxed and might be a bit restrained (by comparison). I think I prefer the sound of the Tuner Box! I highly recommend this product to anyone who wants good FM sound at a reasonable price.

Project Tuner S, nice component tuner
Trying to create a component stereo system these days is quite a task. I was glad to find this very compact and well-built tuner. I've hooked this to a roof-mounted omnidirectional fm antenna and the results are great. I'm located in a somewhat fringe area but I can still pull in the local University station (one of the goals of this installation). While I receive this station in mono, I am very pleased that the Tuner switches cleanly to mono. The sound is clear, without the usual static and hiss exhibited by some receivers in this situation. The controls are miminal and a little cryptic; most control is via the remote. But the instructions are adequate.

Not as sensitive as I'd like, but very nicely made.
Was looking for a replacement for the Sony XDR-F1HD. Latter is a truly amazing tuner with a few annoying flaws - mainly, high power consumption/heat generation and annoyingly volatile preset memory. Still glad to have bought a couple when they were available, though!I mostly listen to mid-power college stations 10-20 miles away, which the Sony handles well. Very marginal with the Pro-Ject, and I almost returned it. But for more reasonable signal strength, it works very well, so I'm keeping it. (Might cobble up a rhombic or an indoor Yagi for DX.) One star demerit is for remote that lacks some desirable functions and has unused buttons - apparently made for other parts of their system - and slightly clunky programming. If 4-1/2 stars were available, I'd give that rating.

PAL type antenna input
I purchased this handy small component because I have limited shelf space. The tuner came with a European type PAL antenna input. I had to purchase a PAL to standard F type adapter. If they are selling these to the US market, they should have included this adapter or it should come with the standard F type antenna input.Once I figured this out and connected to an antenna, the reception and sound quality are good and the small size is perfect for my needs.

Surprisingly good
At first it didn’t sound great but after proper burn in the unit improved greatly in sound quality. Is it as good as a vintage Luxman? No, but it is smaller than a small book and there really isn’t a whole lot going on the radio anyway….

Analogue rools.
Great little unit, good FM signal from the supplied "wire" aerial. Very quiet, no hiss and fine quality in stereo. Nice adjustable display and remote control quite sensitive. Used good quality phono's to connect to my Arcam Solo with no issues. Instruction sheets are a bit naff, check that buttons referred to may be on the unit itself rather than the remote control. I didn't give 5 because the volume buttons on the remote aren't functional, not that I would use them particularly in my setup as the Arcam remote has volume controls that are perfectly adequate. I hope FM won't be switched off in 2015 as radio 3 is just perfect in FM.Update: 20/01/2015 Still going well, no issues and still on original battery in the remote. I did grade it 4 star originally but I think it's more 5 star now.

Quasi perfetto
