From Oscar-nominated director Shuhei Morita (Best Animated Short Film, Possessions) and the studio that brought you Bleach and Yu Yu Hakusho comes a twisted new series that blurs the line between man and monster. Ken Kaneki is a loner. In a world where ghouls—human-like creatures who survive on human flesh—and people are at war, his biggest concern is which novel to pick up next. But when a date with the beautiful and mysterious Rize turns deadly, a life-saving operation horrifyingly transforms him into a human-ghoul hybrid. Now, Kaneki lives on the edge of two worlds: afraid to interact with humans out of fear of his thirst for blood, and being hunted by ghouls who want to feast on his uniquely bred flesh. Can he find his place in a society where it’s hunt or be hunted?

High quality, low priced, English dub.
Firstly what you need to know is yes this is an English dub. I don't know why most reviewers forget to mention whether a series is sub or dub, and I think that Amazon needs to go a long way to improving the descriptions of digital downloads. Secondly said dub is actually quite decent. Now as for the series itself. It is incredibly graphic, violent, and vulgar. As in this series isn't appropriate for young children. They wouldn't even understand the themes. In other words this is very much an anime for adults. The main premise is that a young man accidentally gets transformed into a monster. Which as is so often the case with monsters requires that he must engage in a certain taboo. He has to eat human corpses. Otherwise he will go insane, and just kill a human to eat regardless. Initially he has good fortune in falling in with fellow monsters that have managed to scavenge as opposed to murdering humans. However the world that he has now entered is not filled with very savory folks. Most are deranged psychopaths that would love nothing more then to kill him. Then to add to all of his problems he has to contend with the reality that there is a special police force designed to kill these monsters, and is actually quite good at doing its job. When the young man isn't getting tormented or tortured. He is usually doing something he regrets, and yet he doesn't lose his naivete until the very end of the first season. In spite of being haunted by the ghost of the monster that tried to kill him, but also incidentally made him into the monster he has become. It is all quite quixotic, and yet it somehow works, and the viewer can still empathize with the protagonist. His naivete survives most of the first season. One episode he is eviscerating an adversary, and in the next he is teaching a young girl to read. Ultimately the viewer ends up with a sense of being torn just as the protagonist is torn. This is definitely a very good series if you aren't squeamish, and into particularly deep subject matter. The world portrayed is most definitely grey, and it achieves this not by being perpetually grey, but through wide arcs. Going from a happy sunny world to the very edge of madness. Frankly it works, and possibly works better then pure shades of grey. It gives the viewer a chance to come back for air between terrible incidents. With all of that being said there is one more thing to touch upon. This season offers good value for money. That alone is worth a star all on its own. When you buy in bulk one should expect a discount. It is nice when one is available to take advantage of. In other words it is really good for what it is meant to be, and it is very reasonably priced. This show is well worth trying out.

One of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE SERIES and now I can watch it whenever I want!!!!!
I LOVE Tokyo Ghoul. It is at the top of my list of anime series that takes the cake. This IS a gory series. If you can't take gore then don't watch it. It is a tear jerker at several points as well but that's all I'll say on that. It's not so much a horror series really but there is a bit of psychological play in the mix. BE WARNED: IF YOU DON'T CRACK YOUR FINGERS NOW DO NOT WATCH THIS SERIES. YOU WILL DEVELOP A BAD HABIT OF IT UNLESS YOU STOP YOURSELF FROM DOING IT. It just happens. It's a key component in the series that really hitches in your mind when you see this. I've always had an issue with cracking knuckles anyways, but after watching this series, it's worse now because of it, but honestly I don't see it as a reason for me to not watch it. The story follows Ken Kaneki, the main character as he goes through some major changes in his life. He's pretty relatable for those of us who are introverts, especially in the beginning. As the story goes on though he has to change for one reason or another and that's what's keeping the series going. It is great action, there's twists and turns you don't see coming. There's a lot of depth to the story as it continues and even at the end of season 2 there's still more to be learned about the characters. A TON actually. What you get with this product is the complete FIRST SEASON ONLY. This is Season one of Tokyo Ghoul, but it is the DVD/Blu-Ray combo pack. so you get two DVD disks and two Blu-ray disks in the case with a sleeve that covers it. It also came blister pack sealed as well. This is a series by Funimation and they did a great job on it. There is English and Japanese language (I highly recommend BOTH as they are done VERY well), you also get English subtitles for the Japanese. This is one of my favorite series for a reason and it is well worth putting the money into to have for a long time. Now I can watch it all I want and I don't have to wait for internet connection if I don't want to. ENJOY!
