Paid for its self on 1st use!
Very good tool. Used it to clear kitchen drain which was plugged up with a brilo pad. Did the job. To get a plumber in our area is -150-200, bucks, so buying this was a no brainer. Read the instructions , watch the utube videos , get the cheap leather gloves, Wal mart garden center or dollar store. This is a good tool to have. Start by removing rubber tip. Insert into drain about a foot or more, hold foot pedal down with machine turned on. Push forward on sleeve control, the snake will pop forward a inch or two at a time, pop, pop, pop. When you hear a different sound, let's say a tap, tap, tap. Move the sleeve to reverse for 2 seconds, then forward for 3 seconds. Do this until you hear the pop, pop sounds again. You are thru the blockage, run snake to the end, then use the reverse sleeve control to pull it all the way back. Do not use the reverse on the power switch, this will yank it hard backward, if it's all the way back, you will mess up your coiled snake. If stuck in the drain line you may need this but probably not if you take your time, and listen to the pop and tap sounds. Hope this helps.

Excellent value and a tremendous time saver if you have frequent drain issues.
Overall an extremely good product. It's not professional quality, but more than enough for homeowners or occasional use.Positives: - Quick and easy to use. Literally a 2 minute setup and 10 minute cleanup.- Cleans drains much faster and more effectively than a manual snake.- Actively pulls debris out of the drain. It runs in forward rotation while pulling the snake from the drain, which is important because it maintains the grip on the clog.- The foot activated power switch is easy to use and frees up both hands for managing the cable.- Auto feed makes operating the unit ridiculously easy.Negatives:- The auto feed doesn't provide much feedback. It can be difficult to know if it's actually moving the cable or not and seems to lose grip easily once the cable is dirty.- There's no visual indication showing how much cable you've fed into the drain. Colored stripes on the cable every few feet would be extremely useful. I'll probably add these myself.- The foot pedal feels a bit flimsy. I'd rather have a mechanical switch than the air powered version. My purchase was motivated by a terrible clog in my main bath that caused both the sink and tub to backup and couldn't be cleared with either a 1/4" or 3/8" manual snake. Turns out the previous owner of my house had a habit of dropping tooth floss into the drain. I read the instructions for this unit, plugged it in, and within 2 minutes had a foot long mass of floss, rust chunks, and hair sitting in my lap. After struggling with my drains and manual snakes for three years, I was stunned by the speed and ease of using this machine.I've since cleaned my kitchen sink, sinks and tubs in two other bathrooms, and the drain on my washing machine over the past two hours. In total I pulled roughly a tightly packed quart jar worth of material from the drains. I've never seen water move like this in my house before. To say the K-30 has been a lifesaver is an understatement. Any flaws it has are minor annoyances, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone.

This is a serious machine for the price
The RIDGID K-30 has good quality and design, very good documentation, including an 'illustrated parts breakdown' is in the box. This is advertised as a 3/4" to 1 1/2" cleaner and works great at that. I have used this to clear soft clogs from 2" interior pipes without any problems. The instructions honestly state that the K-30 can be used to clear up to 25 feet of pipe (with its 30 feet cable), the feeder is about five feet long. For me, as an older dude, this has the advantage of being simple (almost) 'one handed' operation, no lifting required. Whoo-hoo!I also own this things big cousin, the K-400. I have had it for years, my only complaint with that one is that the air pressure foot switch had a blow out after 3 years. I replaced the switch assembly for $40 and was on the road again. I have been using that for about 10 years now.

A waste of time and money.
I had a bad clog in my washing machine drain which caused water to come up my kitchen sink. This was the 3rd thing I tried after Drano and baking soda. Its an awkward machine. You have to squeeze very hard to get it to work while using the foot pedal. The whole time the motor part was vibrating across the floor and trying to unplug itself. I followed all the instructions, but within a few minutes the motor started making noise even when it was off. Then the wire must have gotten twisted inside the machine because the whole motor started bouncing around violently. It was unusable at that point. Eventually, I used a $25 drain bladder kit that you hook to your sink. It took about 15 minutes, but the clog is now gone. Start with that and skip this.
