Mine broke within 20 minutes of just playing with it.
Well, 20 minutes after I opened it it was broken. I cleaned it up and just started working the jaws because they were a bit stiff. Cut some wire with it and was starting to feel somewhat pleased with my purchase, and then BAM! the spring broke. I wasn't using it for anything yet, I was just squeezing the handle normally to lock the handle down.Other than that, it's okay. The tool is covered in cosmoline, and you'll need to clean all off. Then lubricate everything. You will need to adjust the tension on the phillips screws to get the rear latch to work correctly. It should pop open when you squeeze the handle. There are two wire cutters, hard and soft. Hard is on the top of the pliers, and soft are on the bottom. So long as the jaws are adjusted on the tight side (don't loosen the jaw screw), it cuts all the soft stranded copper wire I've thrown at it, from 24 gauge on up to 12 gauge. It cuts zip ties with ease as well. The top hard wire cutter goes through coat hangers like they're butter. The wood saw does work, but it takes a long time to go through an oak branch. It creates a nice wide kerf, but it's just not as effective as the saw in say, a Victorinox Ranger Wood. The other side there is a saw for cutting through thin sheet metal. I've not tried that yet, but it is quite sharp. There are two sharpened wire stripping notches in the main blade, but the maximum size they can do is about 22 gauge wire. The jaws do not open very far, which kinda stinks on a tool that's is a plier first and foremost. The main blade is sharp enough to cut paper out of the box, but could stand for some work with a whetstone. The can opener works well, the phillips driver is nicely formed and works well, and the awl will stab you when you least expect it.I'm debating getting another copy or not at this point. I'm concerned if I get another I'll have the same breakage problem, and it's a lot of money to throw down on a tool that is suspect.

Not as good as it could have been
First, let's review some of the features of the unique Ratnik multitool. The plier jaws are 3/4" (20mm) long, small, and are spring loaded. There are two different size wire cutters opposite one another for cutting different gauge wire. I tried to cut thin standard barbed wire and that was a definite no-go. These cutters work well for thin wire. The jaws will not hold or grip large objects. It appears the pliers are primarily for crimping blasting caps. The locking saw is 3" (75mm) and is utterly useless, on the opposite end of the scale from the saws found on Swiss Army knives which are as good as can be had.. There was no set to the teeth and some of the teeth were bent at the tips. The other serrated saw-looking tool had sharper tips and cut a tad better but but was still less than optimal. At the tip of this tool was a pointed tip with a u-shape that looked like an original can opener that was common a century ago. Again, way less than the can opener found on a Victorinox pocket knife. The Tanto knife blade locks into place and is 4.25" (105mm) long, and 3/16th" (2mm) thick. It was not sharp at all, definitely not ready for bushcrafting action. It looked as if the knife guy at the factory just ran each edge of the blade once on a grinder and called it good. I've been using, buying, and gifting Victorinox pocket knives for decades and every single one of them has come "shaving sharp right out the box".A dull knife is like an unreliable friend. The #2 phillips screwdriver is 2 1/8" (54mm) long and works like a charm but it is hard to open. There is a wicked needle-sharp awl that is the same length as the phillips. The 3" (80mm) belt clip works as it should. There is a metal, double-sided diamond-like sharpener, with a 4mm lanyard hole and it fits in its own pocket on the side of the well-made camo molle pouch that secures the multitool with velcro and snap closure. The whole setup weighs 13.6oz (386g).I gave this 3 stars because not all of the features were up to par and it is WAY too expensive. The Ratnik Multitool was designed as a mission-specific piece of combat gear that better serves the needs of the average Russian soldier than typical outdoors folks. It is what it is.
