Buy one instead of paying a surveyor to say "The boat is soaked" and then leaving.
Im not a surveyor but I probably can be now. I paid a guy 250 to come out and rub this thing on the hull for 3 hours and he got to the chainplates on boat I loved and said. WOW... it is soaked. (The meter screamed) He tapped it with a hammer.. it didnt make a solid noise. He checked the other side.. SAME thing.. he looked at me.. Then he said. Let me check the mast step. BEEEEEP (full scale) tapped it with a hammer."Do you want me to stop now? This boat is uninsurable" I did.. I paid the man 250 but knew next time I was going to have that meter and do my own testing before I call a surveyor back. You arent going to beat this Amazon.com price. The device is REALLY well made. IT comes in a beautiful zippered leather case. It is higher quality than the ones I saw. (It is the newer PLUS model) I am pleased. I also will use this tool to check my boat when I find her for osmosis. If I find an area that is getting wet.. Cool I will remediate that area before it becomes a problem. I think this 400 dollar tool is just a fantastic idea to have on hand. Takes all the guesswork out. There are PLENTY of youtube videos that show how to use it and anticipate the results. You know if you arent silly like me and pay someone 250 to come out and do it for you. Buy one, if you think about it it makes good financial sense to own one if you are buying a pre 1990 boat.
