A good book for someone with no idea where to start
I wasn't expecting this book to be as thin as it was but I finished it in about a day, it gives you a pretty good insight into what a hacker is really thinking and I find that fascinating since I aim to have a career as a pen tester after college. This book is worth a read but most of the information you could find out on the internet. It's a good book but unless you really don't have a clue what you're looking for, I wouldn't suggest getting this book.

I found the book educational since i had no prior experienceIn hacking. It has also helped me secure my computer sincenow i know which areas are the most vulnerable. Thats why I give it five stars.

extremely basic
I've been in the information security field for most of my professional life, so I know what to expect from most hacking books - a lot of coverage of a variety of topics and not a ton of depth because there just isn't room. This book though is one of the worst I've seen. The treatment of it's topics are so basic it could have been written by the average teenage "hacker". The material is also hopelessly dated and full of holes. Buffer overflows, the single highest profile exploit of the last 15 years get only a single paragraph which provides a definition and nothing else. The only wireless protection scheme it talks about it WEP! WPA is much stronger, and all new wifi devices have been REQUIRED to support WPA since 2003. Where exactly has the author been since then? The web application section covers only 3 vulnerabilities, completely ignoring some of the most deadly ones like SQL injection, session management issues, authentication, cross-site request forgery, and unvalidated forwards and redirects, just to name a few.If you are coming from a position of absolutely no knowledge of the field, this may be an okay primer. It will give you a basic level of understanding of the issues and the vocabulary to communicate, but it will certainly not live up to it's title and "teach you how to hack".

Great for people like me.. total beginners.
I've always been interested in hacking but could never get into it. All the articles out there were complicated and the books seemed to technical and complicated. I finally gave it another shot with this book after a friend recommended it to me (the one that got me interested in this topic in the first place).. anyways..I was surprised how easy it was to understand. Really explained what hacking really is and how to go about learning it. Great place to start. Seriously. Recommend it to anyone out there that is looking to get into hacking but has no idea where to start. I gave it 5 stars, as I knew absolutely nothing, and it really put me on the right track.

Save your money
This book shouldn't have even been published the content is so basic. It is like the author went to some script kiddie web site and copied/pasted the content. Dont buy it.

Horrible book
If we could crack even the most secure systems with so basic techniques then the whole world would be in trouble!don't wast your time.
