Voeyerism
This is an adult thriller in the Basic Instinct type mould.Acting was ok from the main actors with good twists and turns in the storyline. The main theme is of Voeyerism, obsession and murder in a crowded claustrophobic tower block environment. The ending is telling and touches on the fact that whilst behind closed doors in peoples' private lives all kinds of stuff happen which can be shocking to a fly on the wall, but knowingly, watching people that are unaware of this in their private lives at home really is worse - what kind of people enjoy watching other people in the mould of Big Brother? Maybe the last decade of Big Brother series' have numbed the concept of voeyerism so as to be not as shocking and morally ambivalent as before?

Great storyline
This film I saw a few years back and I had on video, back in the days! So now I decided to treat myself to the DVD.There is a great storyline in this thriller, and is full of twists and turns and you just don't know how it will end! The end is however very satisfying.Sharon Stone is an extraordinarily good actress who can turn her hand easily to whatever character she plays. In this film she is very vulnerable and likeable. She doesn't disappoint in this film, as neither do the other well known stars, Berenger and Baldwin. I would highly recommend this film to anyone who enjoys a plot full of twists and turns, and some truly chilling moments.

uncut -pathetic lie by the way
Uncut version! Wow! Yes! Really?! Seriously? So what's so uncut then?! Ahhhh right. Nothing at all. Which makes 'Sliver -uncut' to b quite a total lie then, doesn't it.Superb acting. Swift delivery.3 generous stars for the pathetic lie that this film is an uncut version.

Sliver Gives A Shiver
Carly has just moved into a new apartment building with a bit of a dodgy past. The only reason she got the apartment is bacause of the tragic death of the former resident. The people int he building are a friendly bunch but things are not quite right here. This movie is a thrilling ride and left me daydreaming about what could be going on in others lives if we could only see behind closed doors. That is precisely what is happening in this building ..someone is spying ....but who??? Great movie , great actors..what's not to love!!!

Sliver, did not make me shiver
The problem with this DVD, it appears to hgave been filmed during an eclipse of the sun. Like many modern films , I accept that there has to be a sense of realism, but where a light is switched on, it should not shine like a 40 watt bulb.

'Sliver' resonates more today, than it did in 1993
In a time when people live on their cell phones & social media, & reality television remains a hot commodity for home entertainment there is no better time to revisit 1993's highly overlooked thriller 'Sliver'. Primarily about voyeurism, 'Sliver' was way ahead of its time in 1993. Combining titilating melodrama, with sex, amazing fashion, beautiful people, voyeurism & murder 'Sliver' offered its audience the full package; the chance to see the daily lives of everyday people (and one killer) via a series of hidden camera's in a Manhattan high-rise. In short, the audience becomes the voyeur.Released in May of 1993, 'Sliver' was Sharon Stone's first picture after her star-making turn in 1992's mega hit 'Basic Instinct'. Paramount agreed to pay the actress $2.5 million dollars to star in their picture after they hired Joe Eszterhas (Flashdance, Basic Instinct) to write the script & chose Australian auteur Phillip Noyce (Patriot Games, Dead Calm) to direct. Initially hesitant to revisit the sexy, thriller genre Stone was talked into committing to the film by Eszterhas & Noyce, with the blessing of legendary movie producer Robert Evans (Chintatown, The Godfather) who agreed to finance the picture. The cast was selected, any everything seemed ready to go. And then ...The drama behind-the-scenes of the 'Sliver' production have become the thing of legend: extensive reshoots, severe cast in-fighting, a completely changed ending, several on-set affairs, horrible test screenings, a major helicopter accident, a frazzled movie producer & an egocentric screenwriter were fast becoming more news worthy than the picture itself. Paramount pictures & director Phillip Noyce would soon discover that Sharon Stone was eager to exert her newfound power, beginning with her order for producer Robert Evans to be banned form the set....and away we go.'Sliver' has become a kind of cinema 'enigma'. Instead of becoming a successful movie with good reviews 'Sliver' instead has become a cautionary tale of 'be careful what you wish for'. Everyone involved in the picture seemed to be at their absolute worst. The more I've read about this troubled production over the years, the more I have come to appreciate the what eventually was released to theatres, and later on vhs, dvd, Blu-Ray. The odd thing about 'Sliver' is, despite the poor reviews and its mediocre box office (over $100 million, worldwide) the film is still entertaining. The Pro's & Con'sSharon Stone has never looked more beautiful than she did in 'Sliver'. Styled to perfection: the chic bob, the immaculate makeup, the classic jewellery & some truly gorgeous clothes, Stone exuded a quiet, soft, feminity her she-demon character in 'Basic Instinct' could never have achieved. Carly Norris was a workaholic, a recent divorcee & Stone played her to perfection. Unfortunately, unbeknownst to movie audiences Stone's performance was horribly shredded with all the major reshoots, scene edits & the constant on-set fighting with her male costar William Baldwin (Stone is alleged to have championed a young Brad Pitt for the male role, but director Noyce preferred Baldwin). Stone apparently bite Baldwin's tongue after he allegedly slipped her the tongue during a kissing scene, later, both actors demanded stand in's for any close-ups. Yikes.Actors Tom Berenger (Jack Landsford) & Polly Walker (Vida Warren) who played supporting roles in the film also balked at reshoot demands where they were alleged to be dressed in S&M gear (both refused). Stone began dating the film's co-producer, Bill McDonald, while his wife ended up dating the screenwriter Joe Eszterhas (eventually marrying him). Stone refused to allow the film's producer Robert Evans on the set, at all, reducing his contribution solely to the films soundtrack & character costume consultations. Yikes. There is a rumoured original workprint cut of the film out there. Maybe one day Paramount will release it? The tagline for the movie was 'You Like To Watch, Don't You?'. In 1993 the answer was both yes, and no. Perhaps now, in an age where people utilize the internet & social media as the basic ways of communication, a film like 'Sliver' can finally be appreciated for what it was ....a voyeuristic, sloppy & entertaining mess of a ride.
