I bought these and installed them on food grade buckets from the local hardware store. These a great value and work really well. As other reviewers mentioned you do need a holesaw to cut the hole for these gates, but once you get that done it is a breeze. I haven't had an issue with leaking around the hole where installed as there is a silicone ring. Additionally, it is worth noting that it will slightly leak when you close the honey gates when filling/bottling there is no way around this. I bottled in a sink so that clean up was simple. I would recommend these to anyone who wants to build their own bottling buckets. Happy harvesting!

I bought two of these valves to process a little honey from our hives. After about an hour I saw some honey seeping from the valve so I put the pail in a pan to catch anymore. The picture is after about five hours of the honey sitting in the bucket. If I tried to tighten it anymore I'm sure I would have stripped the threads. The other valve is holding just fine after four hours. Both were installed exactly the same in brand new food grade buckets. Update: A day after I left the above review I received a note from the seller of these honey gates. They were very concerned that I was having a problem with one leaking unit. They are sending me a new set to correct the problem.. That is how customer service is supposed to work. Thank you BeeCastle

Overall, I’m quite satisfied with these honey gate valves. Installation was straightforward—I easily attached them to two buckets I purchased from Walmart using a drill bit from Lowe’s. Even with the added cost of the valves and the bit it was still much cheaper than buying pre-installed buckets. My only concern is a slight drip on one of the valves. I double-checked the washer placement and everything seems correct, but there’s just a tiny drip. It’s not a major issue, and certainly not enough to warrant a return for the amount of usage I'll have. The second valve works perfectly with no leaks. For the price, these valves are a great value, and I’d recommend them to anyone looking for a budget-friendly solution for honey harvesting!

I used these and a plastic tote from Walmart to make an uncapping tank. I like it better than the purpose built one I bought and it was much, much cheaper. The valve gasket seals well to keep the honey in the tote until I'm ready to empty it.

We harvested honey and processed it ourselves for the first time. I read in another review to use a 1-3/4" hole saw to drill the hole for the gate and that was spot on. The gate works well with no leaking when it's in the closed position. We were able to bottle our honey easily by setting the 5 gallon bucket on the counter over the edge of the sink and placing the bottles under the gate. Super easy to use and super easy to clean. I am very happy with these honey gates!

I haven't put them on the pals yet, but they look very well built and worth the price.

These are a game changer I get honey from a bee keeper i drop off my buckets that I put these gate valves on i get them home put quart size mason jars under the valves and the honey fills them up . No muss or fuss easy peezy love these works very well

I use a lot of honey in my natural skin care business so I source it locally in large quantities. When I ordered this, I somehow accidentally ordered two (a total of 4 pieces). As I go through enough honey to put all four to use, I never returned the extra two. I finally got time to install these in some 4 gallon buckets last week and am very disappointed to say that they leak bad enough that I lost about a quart of honey per bucket, adding up to $100 in loss! I had put drip pans under the spout and went to a multi-day market and came home to quite a mess as the drip pans overflowed. Not just one, but ALL four of these are leaking. I am so frustrated as I now have 25 small containers of honey without lids floating around. I don't feel it is right to now use that in my skin care as it's been exposed to the elements and will now be crystalizing much faster. I was simply trying to find a way to store honey and be able to remove some from the storage container without removing the lid every day, again, unnecessarily exposing it to the elements. I will take the loss and keep looking for a remedy but learn from my mistake and don't buy these!
