WUTA Leather Stitching, 3nd Removable Leathercraft Tool (3nd 5mm- 2+7 Hole, Leather Stiching Punch)

I’m new to leather working and just done a few small things so far, so I can only compare these to the fixed size/spacing diamond chisels and single-hole punches that came with the “85 piece starter kit” I originally purchased elsewhere for about $50. That being said, I love these compared to the (in retrospect) poorly made (bulky, not polished/sharp) chisels and punches that came with my starter kit. They seem to be made with good machining and precision, they are sharp, and a good whack (sometimes two, but that’s more so my technique I think) with my big wood mallet into self-healing rubber on a sturdy surface puts the six-pin round pointed tip chisels sufficiently through 8 oz veg tan leather to make stitching a breeze compared to the tools I was using prior. I haven’t used the round hole punches yet, but they at least appear to be cleanly machined and polished just like the round pointed tips and look much better than those that came with my starter kit. The little set screws are strong and well-machined to allow me to tighten them sufficiently to keep the pins in place, even when they get stuck in tight leather. The screws didn’t come fully tightened on every pin, so after my first strike into leather, some of the pins stayed lodged in the leather and slid out of the tool, but after tightening each set screw I haven’t had any slippage from a few hundred additional holes. The Allen wrench is pretty small / thin and I could see that wearing out over time, but I think that’s inherent with such a narrow shaft and easy enough to replace. A little bit of wax helps a lot with being able to pull the pins out of thicker leather. Very happy with the purchase. Picture shown is a sheath I made for a rolling pin. Holes are from the round pointed tips (not the round hollow punch tips).

More good QUTA leather tools, good working, and fair price. I have 3 different sets in sizes, plus a number of other tools from them. I have around 2 years now in leather, same tools, some with a sharpening on 2k emory paper to keep the edges. I'm no pro, but doing leather worked gifts is always a good thing for the seasons. Nope, no pay, just an opinion.

Giving this rating because after tightening all prongs they slip when punching only 2-3 oz leather. the prongs all slide when punching. Guessing it’s another piece of china crap.

These work great however, they are best to use on very light leather, and a fine needle and thread. Its not the products fault that I should have ordered another set that are bigger.

Love the flexibility and sturdiness. Excellent value for the money.

This is a very nice set of punches and the tubes are pretty sharp and punch through moderate thickness leather. I do not like the tiny allen wrench or hex screws that hold the tube in place. I had to spray paint the allen wrench neon colors to be able to see or find it. Also, the punched leather circles have a tendency to get stuck in the little vents. If the manufacturer wants feedback, please make bigger screws and bigger outputs for the waste leather. Despite these complaints the tool works very well and I have only needed to replace one split tube after about 5 projects.
