Sony STRDE197 Stereo Receiver (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

I had a huge old JVC set at some point and decided to pare down over time, slowly discarding the CD changer as my music collection went all digital, etc. When it was time to find a new receiver, I found this one to be a simple straightforward design, a very attractive price point, and honestly, Sony still makes some quality products. I bought a pair of Sony floor speakers to go with it, and my new system was born.We use this receiver every single day. We listen to talk radio (clearly not challenging the system), and I run my MP3 player into the "CD" input since I no longer use CDs. We have presets set, and I even did the name input. I really don't use the remote, but it is a nice option.I don't use this set up to put on a block party or whatever some people who didn't like the output were complaining about. It will absolutely fill my two-story home with volume enough to bother my neighbors if I want to, and I can't imagine asking it to do more than that. It is really a great value, as I recall looking at other receivers with similar specs and I either sacrificed brand reputation or price--this gave me a name I trusted in a pretty compact receiver at a great price--I totally recommend it as long as you just want to use it responsibly in your home (as opposed to your night club) ;)

Got it hooked up to my TV. Got my cable provider remote to work with turning on and off as well as volume control. My unit did not come with a remote control, probably got lost by the previous owners.

Did not work! I have to take it to a Sony certified dealer for repair. I Do Not, recomend this product! My choices are: Return for refund and reorder( 2 weeks at least turn around). Pay shipping to Sony Mfg`r in Texas for repair ( 2-3 weeks turn around). Take this to a Sony certified dealer here in Phoenix,AZ. (there are only 2!)leave it for repairs, and then go pick it up after ( how many days no one knows). All, at my expense! I am NOT, a happy camper. Amazon should make recompense to me, I feel

I subscribe to the KISS principle, and this receiver meets it perfectly. I've been using this Sony to play my CDs, FM radio, and record player for 5 years now, and have no complaints. It seems like a perfect match for my floor standing Boston Acoustics speakers. I don't usually crank it up, but when I do the sound is still just as good as at a lower volume. This receiver actually has more functions than I need, but can't be beat for the price. I never use the remote, just too many buttons. Operations are pretty straightforward, push a couple of buttons and away we go. If all you've got are a couple of decent speakers, and want to keep things simple, this is the unit for you. I'd buy this receiver again, in a heartbeat. I don't use the A/V functions, I leave that to a little Radio Shack amp and smaller speakers. (I admit that all my components, except turntable, are Sony also.)

Purchased this receiver with Sony SS-B1000 speakers to enhance the sound of an older TV. Works great and low cost, plus getting a good sounding FM radio. I just got an HDTV and hook them up to it. Much better sound then the TV.

Everything was fine till i connected the FM antenna. Then everything got static- the mp3 player, cd player. more evidence that sony isn't near the quality it used to be.

If you want a good high peach tweeter sound this receiver is not the one for you. It only includes a set up equalizer that won't let you set better sound than just a bass boost. This is not good quality sound receiver. If you want better sound get a receiver with 10 band equalizer.

I don't know a lot about electronics, but I know what I like to hear. The sound is crisp, clean and I also like that I can adjust the bass. Great purchase for the price.
