It's just a shell. Some people don't read and they think it's the full key and It will work, it doesn't work like that. This works great if you damaged your key. a reminder that there is a little chip in the key itself that you need to take out and put into the new key. That chip is not on the mobo itself.

Got the replacement. Used my old fob key and circuit board. However, it did not start the engine. Also, had hard time removing from ignition. Don’t recommend. I cleaned my original VW fob insides with alcohol and put everything back together and it worked.

This worked for my 2008 VW Passat. Just be careful when opening it and changing out the insides. It does not have the little rubber seals like the original so it won't be as dust and moisture resistant as the original but it works and it looks nice and most importantly it starts the car. There are some helpful YouTube videos out there on how to do it. It takes a little time and effort to pry it apart without breaking anything. If you also want a spare key, like I do, you can also go to the VW dealer for a new one. For me it's going to cost about $250 for a new key fob from the dealer. I tried other places to get a new key fob but for my year and model you have to get it from the dealer.
