Excellent book
As a longtime student of dressage and Mary Wanless this is a very very good book. It breaks down everything in an easy to understand way.The only reason I am giving it 4 vs 5 stars is that I wish it contained more exercises and offered more solutions to the problems. A DVD or video series would be a great complement to this work. However, I have many books of a similar format and this is the best one.I would say it might overwhelm a beginner dressage rider, but for those that have a basic understanding of their asymmetries and body patterns they will have no trouble with this book. It's a nice blend of pictures, anatomy, describing the body patterns, off the horse exercises and then real world stories.

A must have book for riders of any level and any discipline.
This is a gorgeous book, full of excellent information for riders of any discipline, beginners through professionals. The diagrams and photos in the book are so helpful. I have had the good fortune to actually have a few lessons with Dr Glosten, and just today got the book. Riding with her identified some longstanding bad habits, that I never even knew I had. I have been to Physical therapy to correct my asymmetrical hip/core issue, she immediately identified it in the first 3 minutes of riding. She saw my `lean to the righ't, my uneven weight in my right stirrup, my convex spine, that I thought was straight. Beth has the right descriptive words to help riders with longstanding simple, but yet complex concepts..like wrap your leg around the horse, posting more comfortably and correctly, riding with minimal interference from the rider. I learned I ride with tight glutes, and they should be relaxed- who knew? :) Just fter 3 lessons applying her principals, I can transition more gently with minimal interference, slow or speed up trot or walk with slight body adjustments. This is stuff we all `know' or have `heard' .. but its explained by a doctor, and makes more sense than it has in the past.Every rider would benefit from this book, and an actual lesson, but if you can't get that, get the book. For less than half the price of a lesson, you get alot of information, exercises and diagrams. Your horse will thank you, your body will thank you . Enjoy!

very concrete suggestions to deal with unfavorable riding postures
I love this book! I can search for the riding challenges that I experience and find concrete, doable solutions. As a therapist, I particularly enjoy the explanations based on specific anatomy as this helps me to modify my posture and my aides.

I love the way the body parts are broken down
I love the way the body parts are broken down .This helps you to find the weak parts when riding and helps to make each part better . When you finish each part you will have a better whole body and you will be aware of the parts that start to good bad again. I love the book . It is one to keep on hand all the time to refer to if something doesn't work .

the best book for returning riders
I'd give more stars if possible!!! Incredibly helpful. This is THE book I had been trying to find to help me correct postural problems on and off the horse. The combination of anatomy information with Pilates lessons & riding instruction is just what I needed. Not just for dressage riders.
