DATA COMM Electronics Media Plate with Duplex Surge Suppressor, White, 0 US

Great for wall mounted TV.
Works great for behind a wall mounted TV. You are required to cut a 7-1/8 X 7-1/4 inch hole in the wall. That allows you easy access to stick your arm down in the wall to pull up wires. Note that the unit does not mount on any studs. In fact the left hand side of the unit needs to be about 3 inches to the right of a stud (see picture). This is because the AC electrical box protrudes to the left of the unit behind the wall. The AC outlet is just a normal outlet, no surge protection of Ground Fault protection on this model (other models have surge protection). If you want to add surge protection, a simple, cheap solution is this: Belkin SurgeCube Surge Protector with 1 Outlet It fits nicely (but it covers up one of the outlets) (see piciture). Installation instructions can be found searching Google for "Datacomm 45-0031". Note that only the first 2 pages of the instructions are for this unit. The other pages are for different model numbers.

Good product
This thing is very solid, affordable and easy to install. I have become a fan of datacomm solutions because of this. Highly recommended. Please make sure to take into account the dimensions of this solution since it maybe a bit large and difficult to hide if your TV is smaller than 47''.

Not too bad...
For the price, it's a "roomy" box that you can fold cables into, with a hole big enough to shove "extra" wiring back into the wall. The price is a big deal, because you can get less "space" and utility for twice as much money. Meanwhile, I have installed a lot of these things and they're fairly forgiving of "approximate" hole cuts and easy, once you get everything in order, to level, clean, and live with. Still, the quality is less than I'd prefer and there are too many "moving parts." Those tiny screws to hold the electric box on the back... Ugh. Seriously, do everything you can to fit and test this box before you get up on a ladder. You'll have a chance to deal with any "snags" in the process, you're less likely to drop parts or tools, and, you'll have a better idea what you need to do to avoid a meltdown once you get up in the air. Do yourself a favor and buy a better electrical outlet - this one lacks options and has that hated "child proof" door on the plug - not something you should need anyway for small children. And, yes, the big hole for the cables is good, but get some foam or something to fill in the hole... Sound, drafts, bugs - all love a big hole. On your pre-assembly, take note of the best orientation of the box considering your studs that could be in the way of the box "seating" in the wall, how (all) the wires run to the box and how'll they'll "tuck back" from the TV, and so forth. The quality could be better, but for the price you can do very well with a little thought and applied know-how.

Awesome Plate for Clean Looking Setups
Let me say first off there are some misconceptions about this plate based on the "most helpful" reviews that are older:- The locking tabs are made out of metal now and are no longer plastic- The plate itself is made out of a very sturdy plastic and does not feel cheap- You can install this on an outer wall that has insulation, just takes a bit of work- No issues with crosstalk/interference from low and high voltage wiring using standard shielded cabling (ran parallel)I used this for wall mounted TV and it worked great. I ran the following wires through the opening with room to spare:- HDMI x2- Optical- Component A/V- IR Extender (1/8" style cabling, similar to what is used for headphones)- Wii sensor bar extender cable- 16 gauge speaker wireI would recommend changing the outlet with a Leviton surge protected outlet (or similar product) if you do not have another option for surge protection, that is, an option that won't leave your setup looking like crap. You will need roughly 7 1/4 and 7 3/8" rectangular (not a perfect square) cut out based on template, but I would plan on 8 inches plus a few more inches on the electrical receptacle side as it goes into the wall at an angle.I really hate seeing this product getting stars knocked off of it because it is "to big" and the buyer didn't provision correctly to ensure it would fit into the allotted space. This is a really great product for clean looking wall mounted TV installations -- just make sure you have the room for it.

Great but...
I purchased this to mount behind my TVs and hide cables. I would buy it again.Pro:It was very easy to install, works as advertised.Con:The outlet that is provided doesn't have typical screws for the wiring like other outlets, instead it has little holes. My house is wired with brand new Romex 12/3 and the wires wouldn't fit in the holes. I was unable to use the outlet. Fortunately I have an abundance of standard decora outlets laying around and was able to simply substitute it for one that worked.

Fits Perfectly, Easy to Install
I needed this--an outlet and a passthrough, in white. This looked like it would work, and it didn't require mounting against a stud (which was an issue--and would always be difficult, since the outlet is angled).I measured (twice) and cut the opening. I set the plate into the wall. I flipped the braces into place (for one, I had to loosen the screw a bit--took 10 seconds), then tightened them down. Perfect! The plate and the box are plastic, but sturdy enough to hold up to some pressure and banging around. The outlet feeds from the back, which is convenient for pig tailing (since you will have more room in the box for the other wires, instead of fighting for real estate to the side of the outlet). All in all, I am very pleased.

Well Made and Works as Advertised
We all know that Amazon lists more than it's share of junk, however this is not on that list. Very happy with the fit and finish and worked perfectly in my wall mount bracket, although I feel it's perhaps just a stroke of luck. I've attached pictures that show how little spare room I had to fit the box within the frame of the wall mount base. In fact, I had to run the right edge of the plate through my table saw as it was overlapping onto the bracket. You'll want to check the opening space on your bracket before you place the order. Good quality product.

Love it
This was great. Install was easy. What’s not easy was running my wire to the light switch for power. I had like three studs to drill through but got it done in the end. I really light now you don’t need to screw anything into a stud. It just locks into the drywall. Pretty genius.

Great product, just consider your TV mount before purchase.
Perfect! Just what I needed. My only comment is to make sure that your TV mount will fit after this installation. This product protrudes off of the wall by 2-3 mm, I had to modify my TV mount since it is flush to the wall.I am not explaining this properly. In essence, after installing this product, my TV mount did not fit anymore. I had to purchase 3 washers per bolt to slightly pull it off of the wall so that this would fit on top of the media plate. There was nothing wrong with the product, my comment is that you might need to modify your TV mount after installation of this product. In the end, all I needed were 12 washers from home depot and I was back in business.Hope this helps!

Really good product
I have used a number of different versions of this product from different suppliers and was really impressed with this one. It comes with a template which makes cutting the wall much easier and gives an exact fit. It fits well and has a very tidy finish. It was delivered to my door in a couple of days which allowed me to focus on the project instead of doing supply runs. I'm really happy with the product and would buy again no question.

Stripped anchor tab
I really like this product but one of the four tabs that hold the fixture into the drywall was stripped right out of the box. The metal bracket that clamps the wall literally fell off as I was trying to install the fixture. It is obvious that the threaded part was deformed and would never have worked.I installed it anyway and installation is a breeze.
