Protec2 PL 330 Padlock

I was looking for a non-TSA lock that was of high quality, and learned about these. Very pleased with quality. So much so, that I’ve bought several to keep TSA out of containers they don’t belong in: fits all of my travel Pelican cases up to 1650.

I don’t usually review but another reviewer recommended 4 items which was 2 different size Abloy locks a chain and the Proven Industries lock for his RV and I ordered all of the same items to protect my RV at an enclosed storage facility. I have trust issues and these locks give me a lot of peace of mind.

I can pick it in under 30 seconds granted special tool is needed but not un packable...... still a good lock to stop most

I have several Abloy Protec2 padlocks including this model, which I bought from a commercial locksmith so they could all be keyed alike. Yes, that costs money, but this is worth doing right. DO NOT POST PICTURES OF KEYS, KEY NUMBERS, NOR DOCUMENTS THAT COME WITH YOUR LOCK. Attackers can theoretically use the Russian-language "security number" card one reviewer of this product posted in another review. That is more difficult to exploit for this high-security lock only due to the theoretically-restricted availability of key blanks and tools for these special locks. Posting pictures of keys is always a bad idea, and for normal locks a key can be made from a photograph. If you need the lock re-keyed, possibly a locksmith can do so (if they're authorized by Abloy and have the right training & tools, if you have the current key so you can unlock the lock, if they feel comfortable with you that you're operating legally, and/or whatever criteria so ask a locksmith if you're not sure). I feel VERY SAFE using these top quality (best in the world) locks but only because I bought them from a very reputable locksmith and I'm pairing them with equally secure companion hardware and security practices.

For the price, unnaceptable Passed quality control, absolute joke

This is the best padlock I have found yet. If you need an 8mm shackle, this is the one to get (it is best to use the thickest shackle that will fit through the hasp for your application). It is one of the only locks in the world that has never been picked. It has a hardened boron alloy steel shackle to provide resistance to bolt cutters (but is not bolt cutter proof). The padlock body is brass and the shackle and body are chrome plated, so it is very rust-resistant. It is solid all the way through, unlike most padlocks that have rivets that can be filed off. The ball-bearing locking mechanism is impossible to shim, unlike a lot of other padlocks that are advertised as shim-proof but are actually only slightly more difficult to shim. The keys are nickel-copper-zinc alloy (sometimes incorrectly called nickel-silver, they do not contain any silver), which is more durable than the brass keys of most other locks. There are millions of possible keys for this lock, unlike others that have maybe 300 possible keys. The keys are rather large, but not excessively so (they are slightly smaller than a typical car key). Keys can only be copied by the Abloy distributor that you bought the lock from, and only at your request, so it is safe to loan a key to someone (like a janitor) temporarily and not have to worry that they might have copied it. You can get a color-coded dot on the keys, so if you have more than one Abloy lock (and they are keyed differently) you can tell the keys apart. You can also get the locks keyed alike or master keyed. The keys are the same as those used in Abloy deadbolts, so you can get an Abloy padlock and deadbolt keyed alike.

I ordereded a abloy protec 2 330 padlock. It came from..China without a key card!! How am.i suppose to get a knew key if I need one???

Solid padlock, comes with two keys, doesn't release the key until it's closed and locked so you can't walk off forgetting to have done it up. (Read "can't" as "makes it considerably less likely" ;) I researched the pickability of this one before buying. It *can* be picked, but as far as I was able to tell requires specialist tools fitting this particular line of locks, and practiced expertise in using them. I maybe wouldn't make it the only layer of security in an unmonitored area, but came to the conclusion that it's otherwise unlikely to be an easy target for opportunists.

Solid padlock but only came with 1 key, which was unclear from the “Used - as new” description. Key works but is very ‘used’ condition.

Great lock, very secure but only came with one key which was disappointing to I'm giving it three instead of five stars
