I have a love hate relationship with this Inspection camera
I have a love hate relationship with this Inspection camera. But before we go any further, do not be fooled and buy this here for 125. They can be had at a certain orange home improvement store for 69.97.An inspection camera is a pretty niche tool. And this inspection camera fills an even smaller niche within that larger niche. The fact is, for a certain subset of inspection applications, this camera works fine. But it's capabilities are rather limited. Now, if you are buying this for the "RIGHT" purposes, you will likely be happy with this tool especially at the 69 dollar price point. This is not worth 125 dollars,,, ever. It is hardly justifiable even at the original asking price of 99 dollars. In fact, if you were going to spend 99 or 125 on an inspection camera to start with, there are better cameras out there at those price points. DO NOT buy this one. But, this camera does have a couple things going for it .Lets talk price. Even at 69 dollars, you can't help but feel like you are paying a lot for this camera. The fact of the matter is, no part of this inspection camera is high tech in 2016. This thing is made of essentially outdated components from the 90's. In my opinion, they would be making money on this if they sold it for 49 dollars. 69 dollars feels like price gouging a lil bit. 99 dollars is pretty much unreasonable, and there are better cameras to be had. At 125, you would be out of your mind to buy this. With that said, at 69 dollars this is one of the cheapest inspection cameras with a 9mm head on the market today. I have a very similar camera made by rigid (and it's a superior camera) with a larger head, but I bought this one specifically for the smaller head. Here's the thing. If you WANT an inspection camera, you are going to pay what the manufacturer wants. That's all there is too it. There is not a ton of competition at this price point. From that view point, this is as I said, one of the cheapest options available. And that is essentially this cameras strong point / selling point. It's affordable for the typical home DIYer even if it's still a bit over priced. What is the "Right" application? There is a 3 foot cable on this for a reason. What ever you are looking at, you want it to be very close when using this camera. That is to say, even if this came with a longer cable, it would be useless. I do electrical work. And when pulling wires through a wall, the last thing you WANT to do is have to cut holes in the sheet rock. Sometimes that's unavoidable. But there are plenty of times when if you could only just SEE on the other side of the sheet rock, you could pass a wire through a hole without the need of opening a gaping hole into the cavity. But to be used effectively, you need to bend the camera in the right direction before you pass it through the access hole. There is no manipulating it inside the wall so there is a bit of a learning curve. And the further away from the access hole you get, the more and more unwieldy the camera gets. The camera works best when you are looking within say 2 feet or less from the access hole. The lighting is "Sufficient" for the work I do, but again it has limitations. Don't think this is going to light up a large cavity. You need to be withing a few inches of your target to see anything clearly. But used within its capabilities, this camera is pretty ok.If you NEED a camera to do the types of things I need a camera for, you don't want to spend a lot of money on one of these. And they get expensive as hell really fast. Trust me, what anyone would want is the "FLEX" version of this. It's simply the most versatile inspection camera that Milwaukee makes. You could get a lot more mileage out of it. But for 700 dollars, you better get a lot more out of it. I don't want to spend that kind of money, I don't even want to spend over 100 dollars to do what I need to do. $70 is acceptable for my needs, and it has saved me literally hours of extra work. Just be advised, that this is a very simple inspection camera, with limited uses, designed for the average home owner. If you buy this for the RIGHT reasons, you will be happy. This unit mentions nothing about being water proof. The 9 volt battery is not good for long periods of extended use. But I never need to use it for more than 10 min at a go. And I only need to use this maybe 5 to 10 times a year. I can afford to change batteries when it needs it. If you use this a lot, you will go broke changing batteries. And also realize, if you need a water proof camera, with a Lithium Ion battery, and more flexibility, you NEED to step up to a more expensive unit.
