Q: How many simulaneous 1080p streams might this handle, on average? how about 4k uhd?

With this board I run 1080p HDMI. However, I can't recommend it to anyone because the "BIOS" has no CSM, compatibility support module, and you can't run an SSD (hard drive) with MBR partition. ASROCK REFUSES TO FIX IT. FYI. I have the latest BIOS-UEFI update L1.99. I don't like using a GPT format. NO MORE. Will no buy any ASROCK without the legacy BIOS. ! !

Intel Ark page indicates the J5005 supports a maximum of 8GB of RAM (which is what I use). UnRAID is running like a champ on my machine with PLEX steaming to 4 devices simultaneously and providing ad blocking services with PiHole. Ubuntu runs fine on this board but I had to use Windows10 to update the BIOS at the start.

Q: Can anyone confirm that this stock has the newer bios v1.40 released in the fall, or at least v1.30 that fixes the hdmi problems?

Mine did not have the latest bios, but wasn't that difficult to update. It did require shorting the jumpers on the motherboard which I needed to use a part from an old motherboard to do. I did experience issues with hdmi, but that was resolved by changing the cable. I didn't notice any differences after updating the bios, since the cable had fixed it. I tested windows 10 and linux mint and both worked.

Q: How tall is the hs on this motherboard? i am looking to put it in a 1u server case.

For the ASRock J5005-ITX the height of the CPU cooler does not overpass the height of the memory modules, actually is around (and probably more than) 1mm less. The memory module's height is around 33mm (that means 1.3") measured from the motherboard's surface level. As far as I can see, these memory modules are the tallest components on the mobo. So, I believe you should go ahead with your project. Good luck !
