The dvd works brilliantly, It’s a really funny comedy east is east that will make you laugh over and over again. It’s well worth the money

I have seen this movie three times now, and I still love it. Humour and pathos abound in equal measure, and it’s a little insight into Asian family life in1970s England. This uncut version is also great, as it pulls no punches on the language of the day. The acting is excellent, with younger but familiar faces still on the acting scene today (Dev in Corrie for example). A perfect illustration of how we can laugh at ourselves and others without being criticised or labelled.

I never saw this when it was released altho' I always intended to. A good watch so I recommend it if you haven't seen it although it is a film 'of its time'.

This is a film I can watch over and over again I did have it on DVD but Lent it and never got it back ,it's a bit of humour and bit sadness in it but fine acting by all love it

Disk works decently enough. If you're looking for a comedy that does not solely depend on the exaggerated buffoonery and mishaps that come with family living--namely intercultural families--this is for you. Plus, it also shows that kids in the UK like to drive each other nuts as much as kids in the US. And in a time when there was no internet or smart devices, just old-fashioned face-to-face contact. And there are no political agendas in this film (nor in the play that spawned it, I guess), only connection-making via differences and similarities. Oh, and a sort of convicting look at youth's initial objection to parent cultures--and what happens when parents try too hard in instill it before the youths really take it in. Not to mention why could-be spouses need to learn about each other, full-tilt and deep-dive, before tying the knot and filling the nest.

Loved this movie on TV so much I bought the DVD so I could watch it again any time I want. Superb take on cultural struggles between the generations in working class northern England. Sad, funny, poignant.

Questo film non è per niente conosciuto in Italia. Guardatelo, è un grido in favore alla libertà! Diamo alle ragazze e ai ragazzi - di tutte le razze - nati e cresciuti in Europa ragion di esserne fieri. Aiutiamoli a non soccombere a costumi arcaici di etnie lontane. La circoncisione è un atto profondamente ingiusto e il bimbo ne patirà le conseguenze affinché vive. I matrimoni combinati sono "affari" e non scelte di vita tra due individui. L'omosessualità non si sceglie, c'è! Le percosse in famiglia sono un delitto! Ovunque! La libertà di tutti gli Europei ci interessa! Siamo tutti Europei del futuro, Difendiamoci l'un l'altro! Regalate questo film ad un amico/una amica.... sensibilizzatevi!
