K9 Select Melatonin for Dogs, 1mg, 180 Beef Chewable Tablets

I got this for my 15 year old, 12 pound, terrier mix. She had been waking up around two or three every morning going into the living room, and just sitting there barking, for no apparent reason. I tried medicine from the vet, which seem to work, OK, but it’s expensive. The vet tech had recommended melatonin to me, so I thought I’d give it a try. I give her 2 mg about 9 PM, and so far, for the last couple of weeks, no more middle of the night barking! She takes them no problem, I just dropped them on the floor, like a treat, and she gobbles them up. I have another dog, about 20 pounds, border collie mix, I gave her one, one night because she wanted to treat as well. But it seemed to bother her stomach, so I won’t give them to her again, unless she really needs them. But I do give her a treat as well at the same time! It’s like having toddlers, lol. I believe the recommended dosage for my terrier, is 1.5 mg, but I haven’t wanted to hassle with trying to cut them in half. So I just give her two. Update June 16: still working! No issues with the barking or the melatonin.

My elderly dog may have Sundowners, so my vet recommended using a dog-safe melatonin. My dog is 15 pounds. I gave her a full tablet the first night & she acted hung over the next day. Half a tablet works well for her. We are happy with how this product helps our old gal sleep through the night.

Does aid in his sleeping but needs 45 minutes to really be effective. And it's good for about 5 hours.

My 17 year old dachshund loves this melatonin. He had been having issues with wakefulness at night which in turn disrupts my sleep and that is no good! After doing some research I decided to try this product. I started with 1 tablet offering it to him in my hand. He wouldn't take it so I hid it in a piece of treat. One tablet seemed to have no effect. I increased to 2 tablets after a few days and he still had wakefulness. I tried 3 tablets(which is the maximum dose suggested on the bottle for small dogs)and that seems to be working. He generally will sleep for most of the night only getting up once to go potty. He has also started taking the tablets without having to hide them in food or treats. I read some reviews that say they stink. I don't think they do. They smell like beef bullion to me.

I really wanted this to help our 15 lb senior dog who has arthritis and struggles to sleep through the night, but unfortunately it didn’t make a difference for him. We tried it consistently and didn’t notice any improvement in his sleep. We ended up having to go through our vet for a prescription sleep aid instead. I’m sure it may work for some dogs, but it just wasn’t effective for ours.

My veterinarian suggested that I give my miniature poodle a small dose of Melatonin for a sleep disturbance. I was pleased that my dog seemed to like the beef flavor. She now chews one pill immediately along with her nightly cookie treats. She slept soundly the first night and every subsequent night this week. She seems also more energetic in the morning. This was accomplished at only half the dose recommended by my vet. I am glad that I chose a product with the 1 mg tablets which allows for flexibility. Of course, please do check with your veterinarian before choosing to use this— or any other new medication.
