Works well but could be improved
This is for home use archiving documents. I have used it to combine pages and that work well. When archiving documents one usually needs back & white. The software wants to scan everything in color. Color makes the file size much larger than black & white or even gray scale. Help menu is also very weak, this is why I gave tech support 3 stars.

I'm Happy I Chose This One
I recently upgraded to a new laptop running Windows 10, replacing a 10-year old PC running Windows 7. On the old PC I used Corel PDF Fusion, which was adequate for my needs, although it could be a cranky old program at times. My needs regarding pdf documents aren't really too sophisticated - I mainly use the software to archive, in my goal to go paperless, although I do edit documents. After a lot of research, I chose Nuance Standard 3.0, as it seemed to have the features I use and is not ridiculously expensive like Adobe. I use Adobe Pro at work extensively, and while it's a powerful program, I certainly don't need all those bells and whistles at home. But with Nuance, I'm pleasantly surprised. What a difference from my old PC! It runs smoothly on my new machine, and although I've only been using it for a few days, I've experimented with manipulating my pdf documents and it works like a charm and maybe it even has some of those bells and whistles I haven't found out about yet. Installation was super easy and the interface is intuitive due to its similarity to MS programs. I haven't needed tech support so I can't speak to that, but so far I feel this software was well worth the money.

Feature-rich, but buggy & unstable with large documents.
I wanted a less expensive PDF manager than Acrobat. PDF Standard looked great, and Amazon had it at the right price. The first project I tackled with it was combining and indexing 22 volumes, each containing 150-200 pages. In brief, you will probably love this product if you have small documents. However, once you get over 150 pages, you'll see page images disappear during OCR(!), frequent program freezes, and crashing when attempting to recover an autosaved file. It's obvious that the programmers behind this product took shortcuts. Try deleting or duplicating pages in a long document; you'll have enough time to read and answer an email while the process completes -- if it completes. The same is true for saving the document. The find-text feature is not well implemented. Instead of quickly jumping to the first occurrence, it exhaustively -- and slowly -- combs through the entire document and displays an ambiguous -- and sometimes useless -- list of choices. There is no simple way to deskew a page image. To be fair, historically this feature has been hard to find in expensive PDF managers. But it's easy enough to implement; Paperport 9 had it nearly 20 years ago.Converting a previously OCR'd document to "editable content" renders something that allows you to work with images but NOT edit text.Lastly, the conversion to MSWord appears to work well for straightforward text. However, for something like a table of contents, the conversion makes absurd choices, which produce an excellent visual facsimile of the document that is impossible to edit. These are my findings after two weeks of using this program. I hope to make no new problematic discoveries. Fingers crossed that Nuance will polish and update this product soon.

Do not purchase
DID NOT WORK. DO NOT BUY. Thought we were purchasing Nuance PDF of which we have several copies. When the box arrived, the packaging was different (not the pink packaging in the photo) and said Kofax. We were a little suspicious and Googled to find that Kofax bought Nuance. Loaded software on machine and product key came back invalid. Tried several times and Googled to see if there were any issues. Couldn't find any info. Sent it back via Amazon returns.

Choose Nuance Power PDF instead of Acrobat!
If you want Adobe Acrobat but don’t want to pay hundreds of dollars per month, this superb equivalent will put a smile on your face. Make an image PDF or jpg searchable or turn it into a Word doc using its built-in OCR? Yes! And if it doesn’t quite understand something, it lets you tell it what to do. It works on jpg photos of newspaper clippings! Amazing, and beats the sh** out of Acrobat. Oh, also lets you add text to empty areas of a PDF with large choices of fonts and text sizes. And when you want help, it’s there, written, not hidden as with Adobe.

Does not work with Windows 8.1
I held out a lot of hope for this software to work on a Windows 8.1 platform. Unfortunately, the program continually crashed. As soon as I pulled up a document that I needed to work on, the program would freeze and the hour glass would work and work and work, eventually the screen would go completely white and I would have to force the window closed. I must have tried it 25 times without success. I was very disappointed.

Great program - easy to use
I have used Adobe Acrobat for years - got it with an educator's discount. Mostly I used it to edit pdf files and combine pdfs or rearrange them. When I upgraded my computer to Windows 10 the version of Acrobat that I had no longer worked. The cost for an upgrade was ridiculous - I am retired so I could no longer get the educator discount. I told myself I could get along without it, but I really missed having it available. I tried a few of the free applications that are out there, but they were difficult to use and didn't have the features I needed (or I couldn't figure them out). I bought this program with some trepidation, but to my surprise it works like a charm. There is virtually no learning curve if you have used Adobe Acrobat - this is very similar and works flawlessly so far. I highly recommend it - a great value for the price.

Seems to work
I had a very old version of a Nuance PDF that I only used to convert scanned jpg files to pdf files. Then, after many years, it stopped working. I assume the current program will do that and much more, but it isn't necessary. The program detects my scanner and generates pdf files as the default.Bottom line, it does what I needed it to do.
