Good for rust, not for whetstone cleaning.
I bought this mainly to clean load up from my water stones. I chose this because of its size, you have more to hold onto than the other popular brand everyone seems to use. I've used this on a couple, medium (1000grit) grit water stones. It does work, but it's not ideal for this use, of course that's not what it's made for. It's very rubbery feeling and wants to stick to the stone. It doesn't really have enough abrasive quality to eat into a waterstone. I wouldn't purchase this product to clean whetstones. Tried it on a slightly rusty kitchen knife and it worked very well. Took off the rust in a couple rubs and left it looking nice. Must have a fairly fine abrasive in it.

Amazing!
It really does work like an eraser, leaving little bits that you blow or brush away while smoothing out light scratches and rust stains. I even used it to remove gold plating on some hardware to reveal some lovely nickel and copper underneath - looks perfect, like it came from the factory that way. Don't expect it to leave a mirror polish, but it will still produce a surface shinier than a satin finish without much directionality, which I find it quite pleasing to look at. Best of all, I don't know when I'll be able to use this whole block; it's not very big, but it is dense enough to last for a very long time. I would not use this for overly large projects, it's more of a fine instrument for buffing out small issues.

Works great
I use it to shine scissors and remove the rust and funk. I use alcohol for sanitation and it works as a great lubricant and leaves a shine.

Works great! Kind of expensive.
Surprisingly great to work with! I had a few rust stains on my table and pan so I picked this up and went to town. It does a great job and actually removes the dull "over the times" appearance on the things you use this on. Pretty cut and dry to use, just don't push down too hard with it. I realized that a soft scrub will do. Would I buy this again? Not for 15 dollars.

Rust On, Rust Off....or is it wax on, wax off.
An incredible simple item to remove rust from my kitchen knives. Have not had to use this on any knife that had a major rust problem, mostly just for those minor water drops that evade me and rusts my knife. With this rust eraser, I no longer have that problem and it is incredibly easy to remove the rust. It is slightly abrasive, so if you have a really polished knife and it rusts, this eraser will show some marks where it was used, not highly noticeable, but if you look closely enough you will see the marks. Just a simple caveat, do not rush and try to exert a lot of pressure, just apply minimal pressure and let it do the work. If you rush, you are prone to slip and quite possible cut yourself, so be careful when handling a sharp knife!

Perfect for cleaning whetstones
I used these for cleaning my whetstones. Works great and prefer it over a nagura stones, since it is less abrasive to both. I first discovered the smaller fine and medium rust erasers for use on knives which works fantastic. (I assume this eraser will work just as well on knives and other steel.) When I told another knife sharpener about the rust eraser for knives, he was already using it, and recommended its use on whetstones. I am glade I took his advice.

Rust? No problem!!!
I bought this because I had rust spots on a nearly brand new sword I had left in a leather scabbard too long without oiling it again(which caused the oil to soak into the scabbard and left the sword unprotected). I was horrified to find these small yet offensive spots and was ready to simply accept the consequences of my inaction until I tried using this rust eraser to remove, or as I had hoped realistically, even lighten the marks. Fortunately, the eraser completely removed the rust and accompanying stains and as a bonus it also removed the "made in China" stamp on it as well. I was shocked and ecstatic. It was quick and relatively effortless. This has exceeded my wildest dreams and restored my $300 sword to it's new condition once again. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to remove rust or rust stains on a blade. Plus, like I said, it will take off the manufacturer stamps without any marks or scrapes to the blade(perfect for time period re-enactment). It is an amazing item.

A must for knife owners
I have yet to use the actual product I purchased but I have used samples that came with my Yoshihiro High Carbon Yanagi. If my memory is correct it has helped get rid of simple oxidation and rust in the past and looking forward to see if it helps revive my less than stellar (aesthetic) condition of my Yanagi. I will update this review after I have done so and maybe before and after pictures of my knife too. Picture of the Rust Eraser next to my car keys to show the size of the product
