Great Medium Sized Microphone
This is a great microphone. It has great sound when used with my Sony MZ-RH1-Hi-MD Field Recorder. It picked up conversations in a large conference room during a presentation. I just set it up on the front table pointing at the presenter and got good quality sound.I was amazed that it picked up relatively quiet conversations from very far away. All that was necessary was to turn up the volume when I play back. So I will be able to normalize this with audio software.Another interesting thing, there were times during break when two interesting conversations were going on at different sides of the microphone. I was able to isolate them both and present them as two different recordings, since the stereo seperation was so complete.I look forward to further use. I especially want to use it to record sound for my digital videos, since the microphone on the video camera itself is not so good.

A great sounding mic that I would buy again
This is a great quality microphone. I currently have it connected to my workstation. It provides clean, smooth, and crisp sound with zero hissing or cracking. It still does need a p guard to avoid those pops when saying most words that start with p. While there are slightly better mics on the market you'll have to spend a lot more. At this price point this a great powered mic that I would buy again without question. Also I prefer 3.5 mm connections over USB so this is a plus to me.

Great Mic For Concerts
I'm far from an expert on cammies and mics, but this is definately a great buy. I film concerts w/ a cammie that has an external mic output. This microphone has given me excellent results. Very, very clear sound. Have never gotten any hissing or cackling. Does a very good job at filtering out excess noise (i.e. people around you), and picks up the sounds of a concert well. You can also adjust how the mic picks up the audio. You can choose 90 degrees, which is basically straight ahead, or 180 degrees, which will pick up sounds from the side as well as straight ahead. A very good microphone, I highly recommend this item.

Great clarity and depth of sound
I am VERY pleased with the performance of this microphone. The clarity and the depth of sound is terrific. Used in conjunction with the Sony MZ-R37 Portable Minidisc Player/Recorder , it's perfect for on-the-fly practice and performance sessions; no worries about recording levels or finding the perfect placement of the microphone--a challenge I could never overcome with analog systems. As an amateur acoustic musician who doesn't play or record that often, it's nice not to have to worry about the perfect setup. The microphone, with its two different stereo angle options, offers great flexibility. Your only concern will be blocking OUT sound, like birds in the background or the neighbor's dog, or children jumping on the bed. Worth every penny!

Works good - but not for every situation
The mic puts out a low signal. This is correct for use withDigital camcorders, most of which do not have a mic preampin them so they require a pre-amped mic.I plug this into the side input on my laptop sometimes andit captures a nice quality sound but the volume is low.I sometimes play guitar into this mic too (with the laptop)and again, the sound is good, but too quiet.I have also tried plugging this camera into an externalsoundcard box (Firewire audio interface) and in this applicationit works nicely for capturing accordion. I haven't triedit for vocals. Probably the real issue is the audio-inputjack on the laptop and perhaps the soundcard in the laptopas well. External audio interfaces run on Firewire and USB2.0and start at about $30. The argument is that laptop soundcardsunderperform in recording use because the card shares resourceswith the CPU. If you use a desktop you can plug a new soundcardinto a PCI slot, or use an external box. The argument foran external soundcard box with inputs/outputs on it flowsalong the notion that the fans in a PC are noisy so it's betterto have the soundcard outside.I agree with some of the other reviewer who say it has abit of a "digital" sound to it. Not a warm-sounding micbut nice to have and not expensive. Seems very durableand of course it's quite compact.

Worked great for audio.
I bought it for an Audio class some years ago. It was good quality and worked great, I just forgot to review it at the time. I still have it, in its little box, but for regular home use it's a bit bulky and awkward for your average computer area. Maybe if I had a little studio or office or something, but while my need for it has passed, it was still a great buy at the time.

Bad when used as a microphone for a computer
I bought this to use as a computer microphone for Skype and to have a mute switch in case I have to sneeze. The biggest downside to this thing is it doesn't pick up sound very well. I have to hold it up to my mouth to be sure people can hear me. I've had better $10 microphones from radio shack that picked up light background sounds coming from my TV.A much lesser secondary problem is it requires an AA battery.

Adequate mike for digital recording device
The rating of two stars is probably just about right. Especially troublesome is the funky off/on switch. It needs a light indicator. I'd search for other mikes.
