DCU: Suicide Squad: Hell To Pay (4K/UHD/Blu-ray) [4K UHD]

Very good - an excellent film but helps to know DC comic universe.
This is an animated movie based on the Suicide Squad characters from DC comics.1. Batman does NOT appear in it.2. It has only peripheral association with the movie from 2016 - it has Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang and Amanda Waller - but unlike the movie, all are well fleshed out and actually have characterization. There was an earlier animated entry with many of the same team members in Batman: Assault on Arkham.3. The fundamental basis of the film is that a covert US government agency has been using captured villains who are currently prisoners, especially those with particular skills or powers, to do missions for them. The prisoners earn time off of their participation. The government has super powered agents who if killed or captured given them plausible deniability.4. To control them, Amanda Waller implants some explosives into their neck that she can detonate at any time - literally the agents have to do her bidding or lose their heads.5. The film is rated R and deservedly so - it is not like the Justice League or Batman: The Animated Series - which was more PG or G. People get stabbed, shot, and get blown up. There is also sexual content and brief nudity that actually fits into the plot and characterization.6. Is it any good? Yes, interestingly despite having a fraction of the budget of the live action efforts, this film actually is a good film - a good solid action caper. Desperate people thrown together to do one thing because they have to - and it works. Captain Boomerang even seems plausible here. The plotting actually is sensible and all comes together nicely at the end.7. Does one have to know a lot about DC comics to enjoy this film? Tricky question. It helps if you have some awareness of the current comic tropes and themes. Without revealing an important plot twist there is something here that makes a lot more sense if you are aware of the comic/cartoon Flashpoint. For example, Vandal Savage appears here and is a logical character as is Professor Pyg.8. The characterization of Deadshot, a new character, Bronze Tiger, Killer Frost, Vandal Savage, and Scandal Savage are all very good. What struck me is that the writers, director and whole production took the effort seriously. There are some lighter even funny moments but they fit - sort of the mundane banal aspect of life - even life in the world where there are men and women who can fly. The characters interact in a plausible fashion and their actions are internally consistent. In short, it would have made an excellent template for anyone trying to make a live action film for DC (hint).9. Is this something for the casual fan? Probably not - so if you are thinking of this for someone who has not into comic or any the super hero genre, I'd suggest have them watch a season of the Batman: The Animated Series or the later Justice League cartoons - they are more general audience friendly and ease their familiarity into the world. If you have heard of and know something about the DC universe of characters and know that this is a R rated project then you'll probably enjoy it.`

What the 2014 Live Action Suicide Squad Movie Should've Been
Comic Book Movie Non-Spoiler Review (8.5/10) "Great!" Suicide Squad: Hell to PayDirector: Sam LiuStarring: Christian Slater (Deadshot), Vanessa Williams (Waller), Billy Brown (Bronze Tiger), Kristen Bauer van Straten (Killer Frost), Gideon Emery (Copperhead), Liam McIntyre (Captain Boomerang), and Tara Strong (Harley Quinn)Plot: Waller is dying and she sends the Squad out on a mission to retrieve the highly coveted "Get-out-of-hell" card. However, Waller isn't the only who wants it and the Squad has to fight tooth and nail just to accomplish their mission. This is what the 2016 Suicide Squad live action movie should have been: irreverent, incredibly violent, over-the-top, highly frantic story telling, and interactions between flawed, but interesting characters. Despite the crazy nature of the anti-heroes, the story is grounded by the character interactions which really worked in this movie. The characters come from all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds and seeing how the different anti-heroes interact and work together in this mission I thought made the movie even better. The script is incredible as the creators take the time to build each character's unique characteristics, flaws, and it is peppered with just the right amount of humor to make it a fun, engaging movie. I appreciated the creators and how they took the time to give each characters complexity. With the exception of Boomerang and Harley Quinn, each character had more than a one note personality. Some of my favorite characters in this movie were Deadshot, Bronze Tiger, and Copperhead. The storytellers really took the time to explain each hero's motives, desires, and personalities. For example, Bronze Tiger knows he deserves to be in prison, but his repentant nature and faith are tested when juxtaposed with loyalty to his team members and the mission. This type of characterization helps make the silly story even more than just a simple grab and bag storyline, and the story's multiple bidders for the get out of hell card made the story even more interesting and one hell of a ride.If you enjoyed the frantic story telling of the anti-heroes in 2014's "Batman: Assault on Arkham," then you will love this movie as this movie has even more zany character interactions mixed with hyper violence, and self-deprecating humor. It also mimics the comic more than any other Suicide Squad movie that had come out before it. Oh and this movie has the funniest male stripper of all time. Yes, you heard right - the funniest male stripper ever.

A decent R rated Suicide Squad, that has some nice twists
The Suicide Squad is basically a team of convicts put together by the government to do their dirty work for them. This way if anyone dies, they are expendable. In return, the convicts get time served for their prison terms. Also, they don't a choice since a bomb is usually implanted in their neck as a security measure. This squad comprises of Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Tiger, Killer Frost, Captain Boomerang, and Copperhead. It's a pretty decent movie. Part heist movie, part road trip. You can tell it had a modest budget, as there's a lot of slow scenes with either talking or glaring. Good way to save on animation. But it was still good overall. Character designs are pretty subdued. Just look at Harley in my screenshots and you'll see what I mean. This movie has an R rating. Most of the movie you wouldn't notice. But there's brief nudity, sexual references in conversation, heads being blown up, and male strippers dancing. So I guess that earns it the R. In the same vein, tone wise doesn't feel like it quite fits in the DCAMU, but there's a good call back to a previous bad guy. So that was a nice touch. Overall though, the quality is still good and in that sense, it still hits the bar set by DC animated movies.Bought this for $15. Was hoping for lower, but still worth it for the Blu-Ray/DVD/digital copy. Bought it because I just watched Justice League: Apokolips War, and there were some callbacks from that one to this one. So I felt it was important to check it out. In the end, it was nice to see, but didn't actually enhance my viewing of Justice League.

DCU: Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay
Final got around in watching this movie. The plot of the story is, The Suicide Squad are injected with a tracker, There mission is to find the black card and retrieve it to the boss. The card goes threw many hands and action sets in and killing fighting and dying, if you have the card then when you die your soul is saved. This movie to me was good not great very different to the super hero's I watch but for animation and good colour if your a fan then you will like this movie.

Captain Boomerang and Killer Frost join in the fun in an ode to Grindhouse films of the 70s ...
The Suicide Squad is back and hitting the road in an RV to recover a powerful object before another team of baddies (led by the nefarious Zoom) gets to it first. Christian Slater stars as the current leader of the Squad: Deadshot. Harley, Copperhead, Captain Boomerang and Killer Frost join in the fun in an ode to Grindhouse films of the 70s and 80s. This, and "Batman: Assault on Arkham" are the films you should see if you want a PROPER dose of the Suicide Squad.
