Finally a quality hiking boot with smooth work boot sole
Highly recommend these boots. I wear boots pretty much 24/7 at home and work. Was looking for comfort, support, and durability of a hiking boot with the smooth less aggressive sole of a work boot. These boots are solid and well made as expected. Sizing, in my opinion, run more true to size and not excessively wide. Info online was all over the place. The common thread was they run large and to order 1/2 to full size down. Reason being I now think, is that they don't come with inserts / insoles. I went with my true size ( 10.5 US ). Without inserts my heel slipped. With inserts, they fit perfectly. I'd suggest ordering your true size and plan on adding a good pair of inserts. Regarding width, I'm standard D width, and they feel fine. Not tight nor excessively loose. If you have a slightly wider foot, I think there is room to expand, especially with the traditional lacing. Not sure about a real wide foot. Break in was minimal. I had to get use to the expected new pressure points from lacing, but other than that they immediately feel supportive, solid, and secure like a good hiking boot. I barely had a day or two in them before walking well over 15 miles with the family in NYC and was good to go. Again, I got these boots for daily wear at work and home. Mostly for the smooth sole that won't track dirt in the house ( clients or mine ). Like to think I have a pretty good read on boots. I'm no thru-hiker but do a good amount of hiking as well. Been through countless pairs of Lowa, Salomon, Vasque, Asolo, etc. Only have about 50 miles in them so far, but so far impressed and exactly what I was looking for. Very happy and think well worth the money ( when on sale ).

Great big ol boots for big ol men. Ok boots for me :(
felt a little large at first, and obviously stiff. I don't mind breaking in stiff shoes as usually that pays off in the long run. After only a handful of wearings, these started to form. I sprayed them with some waterproof spray and so far I couldn't be more pleased with the boots. Per many of the other reviews in here, which persuaded me to buy them, if you want a pair of do-anything boots, these are the boots for you. I have a narrow foot but the boots come with insoles. I had a better pair of Dr. Shoels insoles since I have a narrow foot. That solved the problem and the boot is already forming up nicely. I have no doubt I'll buy another pair if/when these ever wear out.UPDATE8 years?? Damn things. Haven’t shown much more wear than the intial break in period. I don’t think they’ll ever quit. However, if anything they stretched out a bit. And I wouldn’t classify them as hikers. Did that once and will never again.GREAT outdoor boots - landscape, construction, camping, etc. The sole magically repels mud. It’s unbelievable. But not a sole with much grip. That said i used them a season or two for snow shoveling. Needed thicker socks and it was a touch slippery but feet stayed bone dry. Also i have a long but narrow foot. Not dainty but not paul bunyon-ey either. Probably a perfect boot for Grizzly Adams. I look more like a kid clomping around in his dad’s shoes. I am closer to a B than a D width so I would not classify this as a mark on the product at all.Overall - its a good, quality outdoor boot. But something about the company strikes me for no reason whatsoever, but enough to post this meandering diatribe on their behalf. You’re welcome

Long and narrow. Very tight in the toes. No insoles.
I'd like to start by saying these are extremely well built and very, very nice looking boots. They would also be very comfortable if they were wider in the toe box. However, these boots shipped without any insoles. First I thought they were meant to have no insoles, but after walking in them without, there is no way. The stitching on the goretex caused a blister to form quickly on the bottom of my foot. Also, they were very hard with no cushion on the foot bed. I called Amazon and they were prompt to send me another pair and they checked to make sure there were insoles in this pair but there weren't. So, they put some orthotics (in retail packaging) in the box. These hard plastic half soles just made it even worse. I purchased insoles from Danner and they don't fit the boots properly. The boots are a little longer than the insoles. This did 2 things: 1) solved the problem with the hard, uncomfortable foot bed, 2) Made the boots extremely tight. I'm hoping they loosen up over time because I can't return them now, but they are very tight still after maybe 1.5 - 2 miles of overall walking in them. They still aren't broken in by my standards yet so this may change. Bottom line is this- Very well constructed, beautiful boots. I would say casual because the rough out will look like hell if you go hike in any dirty, or wet conditions. Bottom sole wears very quickly on shake roof and again the rough out leather wears terribly if you kneel at all so work boots they are not. Very nice comfortable casual boots for someone with long, narrow feet. If you have wide feet, forget it. If you wear a 14D, try these 13EE boots, order insoles separately, and you'll probably give these a 5 star.....If the fit changes for the better after they are broken in (may take a couple years at this rate), I'll update this rating.
