The spikes keep them from coming loose.
these are the best suspenders I've ever had. They grip tight. They do not come loose and fly off your pants. I've used them for many years. The only issue I've ever had was that the elastic in the straps wear out [after 10+ years of daily wear] and stretch. Great product. Great value.

High Quality, Substantial Suspenders Which I Use for Motorcycle Pants
I'm not a suspenders guy, or at least I haven't been. However, I have several pair of motorcycle pants that don't have belt loops. I purchased a pair of Klim Deluxe suspenders designed to fit all motorcycle pants. They we $50 and worked for a couple of months before a piece of the hardware came off, which I somehow lost, and they became useless. In their defense, I only had one pair and kept moving them back and forth between several pair of motorcycle pants.I've had 1 1/2" Holdup Suspenders for over a month now and they seem more substantial and better built that the Klim Deluxe, and at less than half the cost. In fact, they are inexpensive enough, and I am so pleased with them, that I just purchased a pair of the comparable 2" version. I'm going to attach a set to each pair of motorcycle pants, thus I'll eventually have four sets. I'll thus avoid the hassle of having to remove and reattach the suspenders every time I wear a different pair of pants. Not that it's that difficult or time consuming to do, but when I ride, gearing up takes about ten minutes or longer. I believe in dressing to fall, because if we are lifetime riders we will eventually have an accident. It would be folly to think that we're the one rider in a hundred for whom that won't be true. The primary purpose of the gear is to provide protection in a fall. Proper gear can turn a eliminate even scares and bruises in a minor accident; transform injuries resulting from a moderate accident into what one might expect in a minor one, and save your life in a major accident. (Obviously, accidents are possible in which no level of gear will help. As we riders gain experience with age, we learn to minimize the likelihood of one of those - either that, or one way another, we cease riding.)When I prepare to ride I put on long, expensive socks designed for riding. Then I strap on knee pads, followed by Forcefield armored shorts. Then, depending on the weather, a light or heavy shirt. By this time, one becomes impatient if he or she has to find and move a pair of suspenders before putting on pants. Then the boots. I wear $500 Sidi boots that take several minutes to put on and properly tighten. Next is picking the right jacket, grabbing my helmet, and heading out the door. Oops, I forgot something - my phone, or wallet, or key, or gloves - the jacket is too warm (or not warm enough) for the weather. (I should type up the order of dressing and post it on a wall.)The point is that in the context of this ritual every step that can be eliminated gets you on that bike more quickly. Eliminating the, "find-and-switch-suspenders," step has been a helpful pleasure. These are great suspenders. Very substantial, easily adjusted, and once fastened, they are not coming undone. Most important, I haven't lost my pants even once while wearing them. Five stars? Absolutely.

Good suspenders but fake leather.
Minus one star for the fake leather crosspatch, looked at it real close with a loupe, top, bottom and sides and the suspenders I received came with fake leather. Otherwise these suspenders were easy to attach to my jeans, easy to adjust, no fear of falling pants and seem likely to last a long time.

The pin grip seems pretty good
I think the pin grip will hold much better than the clips. Time will tell and I'll update this if there are any problems

After 3 months, one of the holding pins has broken making the suspenders basically useless. It's too bad
